Puede practicar sandboarding sobre la ceniza negra del volcán Cerro Negro o cruzar en ferry el gran lago hasta la Isla de Ometepe, una reserva de biosfera formada por dos volcanes que se elevan desde el agua. La costa del Pacífico, especialmente en los alrededores de San Juan del Sur, ofrece oleaje constante para practicar surf y atardeceres legendarios.
Aunque la situación política ha mantenido alejado al turismo masivo, su gente sigue siendo increíblemente cálida y orgullosa de su cultura. Nicaragua ofrece una sensación de descubrimiento difícil de encontrar en un mundo globalizado; es un destino para mochileros, surfistas y poetas de corazón.
