The Space
Casa Motmot is a charming, newly constructed two-bedroom, one-bath home situated on the edge of the jungle within a gated 19-acre secluded property. Positioned at 1,400 feet in the mountains above Playa Dominical, it offers cooler temperatures, fresh breezes, and stunning views of the mountains, valley, jungle, and gardens.
An additional half bathroom is located poolside within a short walking distance from the house. Start your mornings in the breakfast and reading nook, enjoying coffee while listening to birds and watching clouds rise from the valley.
The fully equipped kitchen allows you to prepare your meals, which you can enjoy at the four-person dining table on the front patio adjacent to the kitchen.
Both bedrooms feature custom-designed guanacaste wood bunk beds crafted to accommodate adults comfortably. The bottom bed is queen size, and the top bed is double/full size, each fitted with high-quality Posturepedic mattresses for a restful sleep. There is ample space between the beds to avoid feeling cramped, making them suitable for families traveling with children.
Each bedroom includes air conditioning units, closets, built-in niches with outlets, reading lights, and windows that provide airflow and scenic views. The bathroom, located between the bedrooms, has a walk-in shower overlooking the treetops behind the house. Alternatively, guests can use the natural stone-tiled outdoor shower surrounded by lush gardens for a refreshing experience immersed in nature.
Pool and Fitness Oasis
Cool off in the therapeutic saltwater pool while enjoying the soothing sounds of the water feature waterfall. Relax poolside on loungers, a comfortable daybed, or hammock chairs.
The fitness oasis has two levels:

The bottom floor features a large 12-person dining table, ideal for groups or families renting both villas (see the listing for Casa Palma, a three-bedroom, two-bath villa at Mountains to Sea). A chef’s kitchen is also available for guests who wish to hire a private chef through the hosts for an additional fee.

The second floor is a 900-square-foot open space with teak floors and breathtaking views. Guests can practice yoga, work out, meditate, or lounge in hammocks here. Private personal training and yoga sessions can be arranged upon request for an extra charge.
Please note that coaches, teachers, or similar professionals are not permitted to use this space for business purposes without renting it separately.
In addition to vacation rentals, the property operates as a fitness and wellness retreat center. For those interested in hosting or attending retreats, please contact the hosts directly for information and pricing. Retreat bookings are handled exclusively outside of Airbnb.
Grounds and Surroundings
Explore the permaculture-designed fruit forest featuring over 70 different fruit trees. Guided tours are available upon request.
Guests can also take leisurely walks along the dirt road through the jungle, enjoying the beautiful views across the property and surrounding area.
Guest Access
Guests have access to the villa they rent, the shared pool, fitness oasis, and the grounds. There are two villas on-site; if you wish to rent both for a private experience, please contact the hosts. Together, the villas offer a total of 10 beds.
A clothes washer and dryer are available for guest use at a fee of $15.00 per load.
Other Things to Note
A four-wheel-drive vehicle is required to access the property due to the steep dirt road leading to the house. The road is in good condition but necessitates a 4x4.

This place is absolutely stunning — unbelievably beautiful. The house is very comfortable, and you can really feel that everything, both inside and around the property, was made with love. The pool is beautiful. We had a nice chat with the host — he is a very friendly and welcoming person, even treated us to bananas. It’s a truly fantastic place. I would love to come back here again and again, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Wow! What an incredibly beautiful place to stay. We absolutely loved the peaceful energy of the place, with incredible views and relaxing pool time. Matt and Megan were so communicative and helpful. We loved how accessible it was to the beach and we even had whole days where we never left the property because it was so restorative and healing to be there in nature and cook in the kitchen. Grateful that people like Matt and Megan have put so much love into creating a space like this.

Outstanding! Matt’s villa exceeded my expectations. Peaceful, surrounded by nature, and great views. I based there and moved to Uvita, Manuel Antonio and other beach towns around. Would def recommend it.

Really a little gem! Everything was in good condition and exactly as described. Nice hosts: helpful and accommodating. We were allowed to hang out by the pool after check-out. All in all a lovely experience and the place we highly recommend! If there was anything to point a finger at, it would be the road there, but it's clearly stated in the listing. More pressure on the shower, but it's really small things. We are very satisfied. Thanks for the loan of Casa Motmot. 🦜

Matt and Megan are great hosts, always helpful and making sure everything is fine. We appreciated the welcome folder a lot: It's an A4 Folder full of information, both of the house/property and activities in the surrounding. We travelled as a family with 2 young kids, and felt the house is a bit small, and an inside dining table would be nice because for dinner you need either bugspray (dining table outside) or stay at the couch table inside. The road through the property is a quite nasty and steep jungle roads. But those aspects are stated clearly in the listing, so we knew in advance and I think that's fair so you can decide whether this works for you or not. The beds are really comfortable One thing not in the listing, but a truly great feature are the "Hummingbird bushes" all around the house. One day I actually woke up and saw a hummingbird right outside the bedroom window (what a way to start the day), and they are frequent visitors on the bushes next to the terrace.

Matt’s place is wonderful. The garden and surrounding area is just so beautiful to walk around and enjoy the view and animals. We had the pool to ourselves and the kids loved it. Matt and Megan both were super friendly and helpful and came with good tips of what to do. We had an awesome time and would have loved to stay longer!

Matt and Megan were awesome hosts. The place is tucked away in nature and very peaceful. They've got great workout gear, and Megan gave us an amazing yoga class. It was so nice to spend time with family and unwind away from the city.
