Casa de la Reina is owned by a veterinarian and zoologist couple. They designed the property as a sanctuary where people and wildlife can coexist peacefully and harmoniously.

The property is known for the remarkable variety of animals that visit regularly. It provides a private sanctuary for both people and wildlife, including:

Guest Safety, Access, and Parking

For security reasons, self-check-in is not available.

All guests are greeted in person at the property. Check-ins are scheduled by appointment between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

The co-host, Helena, will contact you closer to your arrival to arrange your check-in within this time window.

If you are traveling from Monteverde or La Fortuna, please allow extra time for unpredictable road conditions caused by traffic, accidents, weather, or other natural events.

Travel times are often longer than expected, so plan your breaks and driving time carefully to ensure that you arrive before the check-in cutoff.

Our concierge team relies on public transportation, so changes to your arrival time may affect their schedule, your check-in, and the check-ins of other guests.

Parking and Road Access

One car can be parked in the gated parking area, which is monitored by 24-hour security cameras and equipped with bright motion-detector lights.

The road to the house is a narrow community road that is gravelly and bumpy in places. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is not required, and the only steep section is short and paved.

Nearby Construction

Casa de la Reina is a peaceful home surrounded by lush gardens and abundant wildlife. We understand that many guests choose to stay here specifically for this experience.

As in much of Quepos and Manuel Antonio, the area continues to grow. Construction is currently taking place on the neighboring lot. Although the home, backyard, and wildlife sanctuary remain unchanged, daytime construction noise is likely between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, depending on the weather and the day of the week.

We understand that some guests made their reservations well in advance and sincerely appreciate your understanding, as this work is outside our control. Our goal is to provide a beautiful and comfortable stay while being transparent so you can make the best decision for your visit.

Costa Rica and the Natural Environment

Costa Rica has diverse microclimates, and weather conditions can vary throughout the year. Seasonal downpours during the green season, occasional power outages during storms, higher humidity, and warmer temperatures during the dry season are all part of life in the tropics.

Tap water is safe to drink and delicious. Costa Rica is proud to have some of the most potable water in Central America.

Costa Rica is an energy-conscious country, and Casa de la Reina is an energy-efficient, eco-friendly home. Electricity is costly here, so please turn off the air conditioning and lights when leaving the house.

Like most pools and Jacuzzis in Costa Rica, the pool is naturally heated by the sun. During rainy or cloudy periods, the water may be cooler than on bright, sunny days.

Casa de la Reina is surrounded by abundant wildlife, which is part of what makes staying here so special. During your visit, you may see insects, frogs, lizards, birds, and other local wildlife. An occasional gecko or insect may also find its way indoors; in a tropical environment, it is impossible to keep nature entirely outside.
