Excellent place and service

La Orquídea was a breathtaking! It will be a must when we return. Michael was a great host to communicate with and was super helpful with our last minute plans for dates. Ana the caretaker and her dog Bruno were such great support while we were there , always helpful and available . The style of the rooms, kitchen and views were great. We swam and kayaked in the lake everyday (sometimes twice !) highly recommend this , we got to see monkeys, bats and beautiful birds right from our hammocks while we took in the sunset .

We really enjoyed our stay at La Orquidea with our 3 young kids. The house is just beautiful, felt like waking up in paradise! We loved that we were close enough from the hotels and restaurants so we could go enjoy a nice meal or day pass but come back to the calm afterward. The view from the house is awesome with a private acces to the laguna! Its really humid so the air conditionning in both rooms are perfect. The kitchen is fully equiped to cook. The house manager Ana lives on site with Bruno the dog and they are both the sweetest, she was so nice and patient with the kids, they loved to get out of the house to see her. I definitly recommand this place.

We recommend this beautiful house close to Laguna de Apoyo, private beach access (shared with another house). Access by 4x4 or SUV a little high (but you must be able to stay parked at the top of the path). There is 1 double bedroom with shower, 1 triple bedroom with shower and private toilet and a single bedroom. Toilets accessible from the outdoor kitchen. Hot water in the showers, and cooking utensils in good condition!

This is a really lovely place nestled right on the lake. It’s super peaceful with loads of outdoor space to just appreciate the surroundings. It’s also walkable to all the local hotels / restaurants who offer a “day pass” should you want to go somewhere with a bit of atmosphere, drinks, food etc. The rooms were spacious and clean and the outdoor kitchen area was just perfect. The couple who manage the property couldn’t have been sweeter and were so helpful. I highly recommend taking the kayaks out before suns rise and sitting on the lake to watch the sun come up.

Awesome place! If you’re a diver, definitely scuba dive the lake with volcano divers , it’s interesting. We had a wonderful time swimming in the lake and the water is very clean and warm. Anna and her dog Bruno are great, she was there for anything we needed and she even opens the gate every time we drove up to the house. Very comfortable and had everything we needed to cook our own meals! Excellent AC in both bedrooms, everything was as advertised. Michael was easy to communicate and helped us with information our ferry journey to Ometempe Island. Would 100% recommend and stay again! Thank you!

Excellent place

We loved this place, the location is amazing, a few steps from the support lagoon, even with a beach to enter the lagoon, communication with Michael was fluid and he answered all questions before and during our stay. Ana was very helpful and was always ready to help us, Bruno her dog is very friendly. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you need to prepare meals. We recommend this accommodation 100%.

Mike is quick to respond to messages & answers questions/concerns kindly & clearly. The caretaker greets you warmly & is kind & helpful throughout your stay. And all is safe & secure with big, sweet Bruno the dog. The home is tucked into a hillside with a paved rock walkway leading through a kept, rustic garden to the shore. With plenty of space to give each visitor their moments of solitude, also provided are comfy & cozy when you'd like to gather as a group; the property is spacious yet serene. A bonus is the water fountain at the heart of the home, making it THAT much more of a getaway. The cost is well worth it & I would recommend La Orquídea to small groups wanting an equipped kitchen or private waterfront access, or just a central home base while exploring the extraordinary protected natural reserve. PS: The fully functional AC in the 3 bedrooms (even the tiny bedroom at the top of the spiral staircase) ensures a break from the heat or a restful sleep, should you need it.

The house was nice, no problems. But the workers made a lot of noise in the early morning. Sweeping at 5.00 a.m. and making other noises. That was not what we expected in a quiet environment.

Host Response

Good morning Wilma, I hope you are having a nice day. I talked with my staff and they also heard the same noises early in the morning. My staff explained to me that it is the neighbors that are up very early making noise and cleaning. My caretaker, Ana said that it sounds like it is on our property, as noises travel very easily in the Laguna, but it is not. My staff has asked them to not start that early in the morning and to be more respectful, but unfortunately the neighbors do not seem to understand this concept at the moment. My staff also said that the squirrels are in the tamarindo tree above the guest house eating the fruit and unfortunately that is causing noise also when the fruits fall on the roof. My staff has assured me that it was not them making noise that early in the morning. I again apologize for the inconvenience and also thank you again for staying with us. Have a great day. Sincerely, Mike

We all loved our stay in this heavenly place. La Orquidea is private, quiet, very well maintained and definitely our favorite in Nicaragua. The caretakers, Peter and Ana, are very helpful and welcoming! The kitchen is very functional and air conditioning is available in the bedrooms. There are hotels within walking distance with passes for the day. The majority of restaurants are closed after 5 p.m. except the casa Marimba which is open until 7:30 p.m. and 300 meters from the Orquidea. Next time we'd like to try diving 😁

Safe property with a large lot and mature trees on the edge of the laguna!!! The caretaker couple was friendly and proactive. They even set us up hammocks in the forest overlooking the lake! What to say about Bruno their dog who is a colossus in the heart of gold, always ready for a hug. If you want to cook on site, consider bringing everything you need for food (cooking oil, pepper, coffee etc.). There are a few restaurants within walking distance, we really liked Casa Marimba. The water in Apoyo laguna is very nice for swimming! This place is a lot for quiet than nearby hotels to stay. The facilities are not new, but have a lot of charm. Michael the owner was responsive, which contributed to the quality of our experience. My partner and I would happily return and probably will!! Thanks 🙏

Spectacular Private colonial house with access to the Laguna. Michael arranged for a private pick up from the airport and our driver was amazing! He made us feel so welcomed. The house is walking distance to Casa Miramar where you can get a great meal and also jump in the Laguna. Abuelas is also walking distance but be aware they charge you a day pass per person even if you just want to get something to eat. If you go there, plan on enjoying the place since you will pay for it. I suggest to bring groceries for dinner and enjoy the sunset at this beautiful house.

Michael's Spanish Colonial Villa on the Laguna de Apoyo is both magical and enjoyable. The Laguna de Apoyo right outside of Granada is the only place that we have been to in our three and a half month journey to see all of Central America that was so magical we had to see it twice. Epochal! The cleaning staff, Anna and Peter, are superb and so welcoming! The air conditioning is robust! The Nicaraguan rocking chairs and hammocks will try to keep you from enjoying the lake with their loving embrace - Don't let them! The lake is best to swim early in the morning right as the sun rises at 6 am (in December) before the wind kicks up the waves and at about 3 am - when you will be greeted by a pageant of uncalculable stars that amazingly can be seen twice as they shine through pristine waters and off the lake bed! Don't mind your new wild guests that love to visit - the monkeys, bats, giant lizards, and other creatures of the jungle (many of which can only be found here) - they are home too!

We had a really lovely time at Michael’s place . The house was better than the photos , well equipped with great aircon and comfortable beds . The shower had a great view of the lake . We used the kayaks on the lake and spent some time just sitting and chatting in the warm water and looking at the view . The staff were v. friendly and extremely helpful . We loved Bruno the dog . We were lucky enough to have howler monkeys come down into the tree just next to the house and were really v. close to watch . We also did a sunset / nighttime visit to the volcano which was a highlight of our whole 6 week trip . The only thing to say was it was a real struggle to find the house . It appears that there are 3 names associated with the property and it is poorly marked from the road . GPS was poor , so this didn’t help either . We finally got there by trial and error . This could be clearer in the description and to make it clear what is the real name of the property

We had a fantastic stay, the location is beautiful, full of wild life like monkeys and tucans. The place is so close to the lagoon and very private. Bruno the dog and the care takers were extremely helpful and friendly. There are bars and restaurants around though we went in to Masaya to buy food at the market and cook. All the amenities were available. The only things we would warn about is the ants and to bring bug repelant as there are many mosquitos and biting critters. At the house the cell signal is not great but is better down by the lagoon. We had a great time and very much recommend staying here! Thank you so much Michael, Peter and Bruno!

Two houses are rented, which are located directly next to each other. In the first complex there is a yard with parking, the front house and a small apartment for the caretakers. The accommodation we rented can only be reached via the courtyard and looks like a hacienda. The two houses share the garden down to the lake, which can be furnished with plastic seating and hammocks during the day. There are two canoes with paddles for everyone. The small tower, which can be reached via the spiral staircase, serves as a children's room with a cot and as a retreat for the house cat from the watchdog that lives with the caretakers in the yard. Really lovely people tending the property. Communicating with Micheal was a pleasure. Thank you for the beautiful last few days in a diverse country with wonderful people.

Mike’s place is peaceful and quiet, just the right place if you are looking to getaway from the noisy places . We spend 2 nights here and had a great experience, the kids swim in and had fun using the property’s kayaks . We arrived without a car 🚙, Ana and Mike were extremely helpful finding a car . I appreciated a lot that specific morning with the taxi. Make sure to take your own food and beverage if you wish to spend more time in your own space OR you can find great restaurants 3-5 minutes walk from the property. We took all our food and we had the best cooking while enjoying the MAGNIFICENT LAKE VIEW from the property . I do recommend this place !

Cozy house, with everything you could need. The semi-private beach is a nice plus. Great communication with Michael, I would be back anytime.

If you are looking for a private place to stay for any amount of time you are truly right here. it's an amazing place with lots of great features like wonderful big rooms, a great kitchen with everything inside and also a nice private acces to the beach. The place is perfect for all kind of people and also for familys I would recommend. Enjoy your stay there and be aware that this Place is a True Gem at the Laguna de apoyo. And one last tipp for the Laguna de apoyo, don't go into the restaurants it's not worth it just enjoy the nice kitchen and bring yourself lots of things for cooking.

The place is great, Peter (the guy in charge) was kind and helpful, we recommend this place for a quick getaway from the noisy city or crowded places…thanks for so nice experience!

The best place to stay and enjoy as a family, the house is equipped with furniture and kitchen. The atmosphere is great, there is plenty of greenery to make you feel peace and quiet. Beach is steps away on the trails created by the owner. The caregivers are very friendly and helpful. The house is very easy to locate, it is beach front. The road is in good condition, but in the last 50 meters you need a 4X4 car.

beautiful spot

La Orquídea is a beautiful house with and everything described is what you will get. Access to Laguna de Apoyo is the best, right at the house, so relaxing with the beautiful views. The hammocks, are gorgeous. We saw two Guardabarranco, Nicaragua’s national bird. Communication with our host was so easy and the local hosts were so nice and supportive to our requests for everything. Thank you so much, we hope to be able to come back!
