Very nice one bedroom duplex cabin nestled in a nature reserve. Walking distance to restaurants and town. Next door is a restaurant with pool where you can swim for a $12.00 day pass. The accommodations were simple , well organized and clean.

Host Response

“Excellent guest! Very respectful, kind, and easy to communicate with throughout the stay. They took good care of the cabin and left everything in great condition. We would be happy to host them again anytime. Highly recommended!” John J

Just about every time I come to La fortuna I stay here. The free entrance to the trails is honestly one of the best things. I have experienced some of the best sloth views here. You will NOT leave without seeing a sloth. I’ve seen multiple other animals because the pond across from the cabins attract wildlife. The breakfast is delicious every time. It’s walkable to EVERYTHING! I can’t rave enough about this place. It was the very first place I ever stayed in La fortuna on my first visit to Costa Rica and now I’ve been living in CR for four years now. The room is basic like a hotel room (with a huge shower with hot water) and theirs a shared clean outdoor kitchen to store and cook your food if you want to be frugal.

Lindisimo, looking for lazy on the trail during my stay. No success , but on the last day I was out of the place one saying goodbye is well worth it.

Host Response

"Thank you for your lovely review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay and had the chance to explore the trail. Even though the sloths can be elusive, it’s amazing that one showed up to say goodbye on your last day—what a special moment! We hope to welcome you back in the future for another great experience.

The accomodation was quiet, clean and beautiful! Also the owner and employees were really friendly and always there for any question/help. The outdoor kitchen was really clean and had all the stuff you need! Also the breakfast that was included was delicious and we were happy to be able to get the free entrance to the trail to see Sloths! We can recommend this accommodation 100 %!

We loved staying in the cabins here! Very comfortable & private surrounded by nature. We still felt safe walking into town because the paths were well lit after dark. Our stay included entrance to a nearby nature trail where we seen sloths & birds even without a guide. The local restaurants are walkable and it was a great place to set out for any sort of adventure.

Thank you Maria, a nice quiet place right behind the town of La Fortuna. Location is towards edge of town, but nice and quiet, off the main street. Easily walkable to the town, rolling a suitcase from the front of the entrance to the back is very difficult with the gravel road, breakfast was great, everyone was really kind and helpful. Felt very safe for a solo female traveler.

Highly recommend! Always see sloths, beautiful birds, and other creatures. William was a great guide for the night hike! Saw frogs, snake, sloth…

"Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear you had such an amazing experience with the wildlife and that William was a great guide for your night hike. It's always a pleasure to see sloths, frogs, and other creatures up close! We appreciate your recommendation and would love to welcome you back for another adventure.

We love Maria’s cabins! Every time we go to La Fortuna it is our #1 choice. Clean, centralized and great people. The cabins are clean and quaint, right next to the Bogarin Trail and Selva Rústica restaurant! It is the best place to stay! Loved going on the bogarin trail tour with Alex. So informative and great pictures! Love this whole area!

Host Response

Thank you so much for your continued support and wonderful review! We’re honored that Maria's cabins are your #1 choice in La Fortuna. We're thrilled you enjoyed the cleanliness, location, and the nearby attractions like the Bogarin Trail and Selva Rústica restaurant. It's fantastic to hear you had a great time on the tour with Alex—he truly knows how to make the experience special! We can't wait to welcome you back next time you visit this beautiful area!

The cabins are super cosy and clean and set in stunning surroundings right on the edge of the rainforest. The aircon was very effective and having a coffee machine in the room was an added bonus. We saw so much wildlife literally on our doorstep. The kitchen was really well equipped and it was lovely to cook and eat with all the lush greenery and the ponds for a view. María responded quickly and was very helpful when we had questions. The included entry to the Bogarin Trail was such a nice thing, we highly recommend going there for a coffee in the morning to sit and watch the birds eating the fruit at the reception. A heads up to others is that if you stay in the cabin you get discounts on tours etc. offered by the Bogarin Trail, we weren't told this until just before we left so hopefully this helps the next person get a good deal! All the staff at the Bogarin were lovely and helpful too.

Advantages: Lugar tranquil, Surrounded by nature, comfortable inland and has very important air for the dates, 200 meters from the main street where there are variedsd of restaurants. Disadvantages: Missing a mini Refri, water was not hot, tv at night would turn on by itself either a problem or other things didn't let us sleep well that day.

Amazing place! We saw a lot of animals including sloths 😊

We spent 4 days at María's place. Everything is as described, very clean and looked like the pictures. Check-in was very flexible and easy. The place has a very good location and is very private despite the proximity to the city and surrounded by small ponds and greenery. At night it was occasionally a little loud due to thin walls, which only stands out as a sensitive person. A big plus was that we were allowed to use the Bogarin Trail for free, right next to the property. We really enjoyed the time at María's place and it was a very good choice for our stay, we can recommend it!

Overall this was a great stay. With the coffe shop and restaurant a short walk from the cabins, it was no problem to get a quick bite to eat or drink nearby, and there are other restaurants within walking distance. I did struggle to sleep due to noise from a nearby nightclub and having a hard time getting acclimatized. The bedding is an also bit thin and it was fairly comfortable leaving the window open at night. Since the AC blows directly on the bed, if you like to sleep cold you should be happy. Ask for an extra blanket or bring some PJs if you need AC to sleep at night or prefer to run it at night to reduce humidity. The Bogarin trail was also cool, I saw a viper, sloth, basilisk, poison dart frog, owl, and several other bird species I couldn’t identify on my loop around the trail.

Room was cozy and clean, towels and soaps provided, shower was great. Loved having the pond right outside and even saw some critters at night. Watching the birds by the common area was nice and the trail was maintained and well marked - we even saw a sloth climb down to the ground! Easy to walk into town. Only would not recommend the breakfast on sight, it was small for the money and took a long time to prepare, even waited a half hour for a basic coffee.

Great cabins! Very nice area and they helped with some personal accommodations.

The Bogarin property is a gem - a wonderful piece of CR natural habitat that is close to the conveniences of town. The trails are well maintained. The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. The feeding station is well stocked and comfortable to hang out at. Unfortunately the frog ponds were closed when we were there. The lodging is basic, but open access to the trails is priceless. Unfortunately we were unaware that they’d closed the outdoor kitchen access that used to be supplied with the lodging. That was a disappointment.

Good place if you’re looking for something basic just for sleeping and walking distance to town. It’s just 5 minutes walk. It’s very basic, so dont expect much, but has what’s necessary. There were quite a few insects the first night, but nothing that bothered me too much. The free entrance to the Bogarin Trail was a bonus, saw 3 sloths! It’s in a calm place down a gravel road away from the city noise, so you can listen to the animals and sleep well after a long day of activities. Maria was very helpful when I locked myself out of my room and made sure I got in easily. As a solo female traveler be aware that you have to walk a few minutes down a dark road at night. I felt safe enough, but maybe you won’t. Make sure you have a flash light on your phone to look for animals. Another bonus is that there is a nice and cheap tour booking company 2 minutes away, called DaEcoTravel. I’d recommend if you’re looking for a cheap calm place in nature and are not too luxury-minded.

Basic but excellent accommodation! Rooms were nicer than on the photos. The rain can be loud but we enjoyed the white noise. You could also hear the people next door occasionally but no more than any other hotel/Airbnb we have stopped at! Bed was comfy and shower was strong and hot! The best thing about this place is the free access to the Bogarin trail! We did it twice on our trip and saw sloths, frogs and birds both times! Host was lovely and friendly. Make sure you take a torch as it’s extremely dark at night and you have to walk close to the rainforest to get back to the room!

I loved my stay at these small cabins in the jungle. They were so peaceful and yet close enough to walk to town center (10min). Plus, you can walk the bogarin trail for free next door. AC worked, wifi strong. I'd As other reviewers mention, you can hear everything from coughs to conversation in the neighboring rooms. However, i still think this option is more peaceful than staying in town. One downside was shower isn't really hot, but it was fine. I'd 100% return.

Simple accommodation on the outskirts of La Fortuna. OK for a night or two Everything is within walking distance. If you are traveling alone, you should consider that you walk over the park's dark parking lot at night. The place was clean and the reception very friendly. The amenities were partly damaged and did not correspond to it on the pictures. Unfortunately no fridge in the room. There is an outdoor kitchen and a pool that were both not in operation. At night you can hear the disco noise that didn't bother us. The water pressure in the shower is great and there is hot water, which is a big plus. Parking is right in front of your cabin, which we also liked. We were very happy about the free entrance to the park. The cafe at the receptionist opens at 7am and you can buy cappuccino there.

The Cabin was located right on the Bogarin Trail. You will be surrounded by nature. The cabin itself will literally be a place for you to sleep and has the basic necessities. You will be a 2 mins walk to a supermarket and a 3 mins walk to all the restaurants. The only downside of the cabin is that the walls are paper thin and you will hear everything across the wall from the adjacent unit. The location was absolutely astounding and would go back if we are ever in La Fortuna.

Maria’s place was really lovely! It is surrounded by wildlife and many birds come to visit, as well as sloths if you’re lucky enough to spot one. It’s very simple but had everything I needed: comfy bed, nice bathroom, and air conditioning. TV with chrome cast was a bonus for when I wanted to unwind in the room. There is a nice bench outside each door in a semi-private patio space which is perfect for birdwatching. The only downside, as others had mentioned, is the loud noise of rain on the roof that often woke me up at night. It was also a little confusing when I arrived as my instructions had “sloth” but the room said “perezoso” (I could have used online to translate but didn’t think about it) but Maria was very responsive on the phone and talked me through entering. It’s right on the edge of town so quiet and peaceful, but a short 5-10 minute walk to anything you need! Would stay here again.

Best place to stay in La Fortuna! Great hosts, great value great location. We highly recommend you stay at Maria’s cabins and visit the Bogarin Trail!

This is the perfect little slice of heaven! Super quaint - two little ponds to walk around and the Bogarin Trail overlaps with the property. As airbnb guest of this place, you can walk the trail on your own anytime (though not recommended at night due to poisonous animals lurking around). Or you can get a guided tour (recommend!) where they point out all the amazing animals living around, including sloths! The place itself was a bit tricky to get to, you have to drive all the way down and then signs point you to the cabins. I got in pretty late and only stayed that one night. In the early morning I took the guided tour and learned about all the animals I was sleeping amongst! It made me think about staying an extra night because of how magical it felt there. The place itself was clean and tidy and comfortable. Just enough to rest up before heading out for the adventures abound.

Great area and lovely to walk through the park and see the sloths. The restaurant connected to the parking lot had great food, town was a walk away. The only thing was we were there on a weekend and the Charlie’s pub was quite loud till the early morning. Also the fitted sheet kept jumping off the mattress during the night so we had to get up a few times in the night to remake the bed. I think the mattress is plastic so that may be the problem. Lovely location though and we enjoyed ourselves

For a birdwatcher and nature lover, this is a great location near Bogarin Trail for sloths and many birds....also a few outlooks for Arenal Volcano. It is also a short block from the town's main street with all it has to offer. The cabins seem new so clean, well maintained, great AC and wifi. It was perfect for one, with a reading chair as well as a small work desk and chair; but space for 2 as a place to sleep. Amenities are limited, which keeps it clutter free. Communication was good and clear instructions with photos provided for entry. It can get muddy and a little uneven to walk, so sensible footwear and ensure you have a good flashlight or headlamp for arriving after dark or from late dinner. As it is a duplex to another cabin, there may be some plumbing sound transfer between the rooms, but most of what you hear is nature. there is a small coffee maker and 2 mugs, so bring your own ground coffee and fixings. Very well recommended and I have suggested it to some others already.

Very unpleasant experience: no reception, left for ourselves, so many regulations ( don't..., do not..., close...,do this... etc...) No amenities (no hook for laundry, torn towels, broken chair, no cleaning for 3 days) Especially very noisy in the evening because of a nearby restaurant-disco, I didn't sleep 3 nights! No animals or birds despite the ad because it's too noisy! And we ask in writing for a tip for the cleaning.... cheeky! Not recommended even badly!
