A two-bedroom room in Nosara features a teak wraparound deck, panoramic jungle views, pool access, and air conditioning. Watch for monkeys and birds from hammocks, outdoor seating, and the open-plan living space.
The Space
Inspired by the decks of vintage cruise ships, the Jungle Apartment features a teak wraparound deck elevated on stilts, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the surrounding jungle with stunning panoramic views. Situated within the 24,000 m² private jungle grounds of Southern Drake Lodge, it is near three remarkable natural areas: Corcovado National Park, Caño Island, and the Terraba-Sierpe Mangrove, as well as the Pacific Ocean. This location offers exceptional opportunities to observe wildlife in the air, on land, and at sea.
The lodge was designed with luxury self-catering jungle accommodation in mind. The wraparound deck provides ample space for bird and monkey watching. Relax in hammocks or outdoor seating areas, or cool off in the large pool surrounded by an expansive deck ideal for dining outdoors or simply enjoying the jungle views.
To maximize your nature-watching time, there is a spacious twin rainforest shower located outside, allowing you to keep an eye out for furry or feathered visitors. Inside, the open-plan kitchen and dining area feature teak bi-fold doors that open fully to connect with the outdoors. The apartment includes two air-conditioned bedrooms and a large bathroom with twin sinks.
With 360-degree views, all you need to bring are your binoculars, phone, or camera to capture the incredible wildlife. Breakfast and evening meals are served on the Rancho covered outdoor platform, the perfect spot for monkey and birdwatching. The fire pit and pool bar offer relaxing spaces to unwind, share stories from the day, and plan your next adventure.
Transfers to and from Drake Bay airport (for flights) and the main beach (for boat arrivals from Sierpe) are included. Cleaning and laundry services are also provided.
Guest Access
- Free parking is available at Southern Drake Lodge.
Additional Information
- For groups of five, a single bed can be added to the lounge area, which is served by a ceiling fan. Air conditioning is available only in the two bedrooms.
- Children are welcome at Southern Drake Lodge; however, guests should be aware that the building is elevated on stilts and accessed by stairs. The wraparound deck has open railings that children could climb through or over.
- The pool, deck, and bar areas are unfenced and have no gates, so children must be supervised at all times.
- The lodge is home to three rescue animals: a cat named Gala and two dogs, Rio and Bob. Rio is particularly energetic and playful. Both dogs are friendly and enjoy interacting with guests.
- If you plan to drive to Drake Bay, a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle is essential. Although road conditions have improved, especially during the dry season, exploring the area often involves crossing rivers, streams, or steep hills. Renting a 4WD will help avoid complications, additional costs, and ensure a smoother trip.
- The Jungle Apartment is located directly below the Rainforest Penthouse and is part of the main building of Southern Drake Lodge.

Our stay was wonderful! The apartment was phenomenal, with an unobstructed view of the jungle. We saw many animals on the property (monkeys, toucans, parrots, etc.). Everything was always very clean and tidy when we returned from our activities. Sue and Joe were 5*! Very fun, friendly, and they helped a lot in organizing the activities…. We ate beautifully at the Southern Drake Lodge. Breakfast and dinner were very good! What a vacation! Thank you so much, Sue and Joe. See you next 😃

We just want to say thank you to Joe and Sue for a wonderful stay at their lovely lodge. It was really like staying with friends, just so personable and welcoming. They both go above and beyond to ensure guests maximize their enjoyment. I saw first hand with us, as well as other guests, too. A big shout out to their very friendly staff as well, which is no surprise. Lastly, the welcoming pups, Bob and Rio, were a huge hit in our group. Beautiful lodge, excellent food and service, and truly wonderful hosts.

Southern Drake Lodge is amazing! We loved this place from the moment we arrived. The space itself is gorgeous and comfortable, and the view is spectacular. Bird song and animal life all around. Joe and Sue are perfect hosts. The hospitality, flexibility and assistance with every manner of request is faultless. We extended our stay after getting here and so glad we did. Sorry to be leaving and hope to be back! Big shout out to new chef Maria who, along with Taye, made some wonderful dinners in a very out of the way part of the world!

Outstanding stay in every possible way. Sue and Joe have created an oasis in the jungle. The lodging itself is beautiful and matched the photos but what sets Southern Drakes Lodge apart is the service. We are a family of 5 and never have we felt so taken care of in all our travels. From the moment we booked to when it was time to depart, Sue and Joe took care of every detail from taxis, laundry, tours (thank you Elsa!), amazing meals (Thai and Ellie prepared breakfast and dinner that were as beautiful as they were delicious). Five days was not enough but we all left with a sense of gratitude that we were able to experience the OSA peninsula and stay in such a special place with amazing hosts.

It’s not possible to say enough good things about our stay here, we loved every second. The property has a beautiful jungle view within walking distance of the beach. Joe and Sue were incredible hosts (going above and beyond when we arrived unwell) Incredible food for breakfast and dinner every day! Always fresh and delicious Our rooms were cleaned every day and laundry was provided The hosts were so helpful in helping us arrange our time and activities. I’m so glad we extended our stay to 8 nights to truly enjoy everything drake bay and the property had to offer. Bob, Rio and gala 🐱🐶 were great company around the property. Thank you all for the most wonderful stay.

Our stay at Joe & Sue's was the icing on the cake. When you come across this gem: do not hesitate, but book! The quality of this beautiful accommodation, the food (Elly is a fantastic chef; we ate the best meals of the trip here), the hospitality, the help of Sue & Joe, the cute dogs Bob & Rio... We haven't seen this anywhere yet. Thanks for making our trip end so beautifully!

What Sue and Joe have created here is really impressive! You feel welcome and well taken care of right away. The hotel and apartments are sparkling clean and very well maintained. Breakfast and dinner are delicious and highly recommended! Highlights include the really great communication and organization of Sue, who organized the tour to the national park for us. Thank you! Pura Vida.
