About Casa Van Wilpe
Casa Van Wilpe is one of the oldest houses built on the remote beach of Nosara. It was designed by the renowned Costa Rican architect and engineer couple Julia and Derk Van Wilpe, who also planned the layout of Playa Guiones.
Constructed with locally sourced materials, the house reflects a philosophy centered on respecting nature and the environment.
Location
The house is centrally located in Guiones, a five-minute walk from the northern entrance to Guiones Beach. Restaurants, a mini-supermarket, yoga classes, and surfing are all within walking distance.
The Space
Guests have exclusive use of the entire upper floor, accessed through a private gate. The space includes:
- Two bedrooms, each with an en-suite full bathroom
- A living room
- An open kitchen
- Large front and rear patios
- One queen bed in each bedroom
- Up to two folding twin beds, available upon request
Guest Access
An outdoor shower is available for rinsing off sand after returning from the beach.
Guests are also welcome to explore the garden beneath the tall trees. Mangoes are plentiful around March, and guests may pick and enjoy them.
Other Things to Note
Please do not expect all the comforts you may be accustomed to if you are from a more developed country.
- Power outages occasionally occur, but electricity usually returns quickly.
- The septic tank cannot accommodate toilet paper.
- Food left uncovered may attract ants and other insects.
- The town began growing rapidly after the pandemic, resulting in increased construction, traffic, and petty crime.
- Please remain alert, use good judgment, and respect the local culture.

The house is spacious and in a wonderful, perfect location. Older house, comfortable, with air conditioning that works well, which is really important. It could have a microwave or a milk jug for heating milk. In general everything is very nice. The location is even better than the house, so it's really worth it! We saw monkeys, iguanas, squirrels. Lots of trees!!

This is a unique old house with rustic charm and a wonderful big balcony on the second floor for hanging out. It has an unconventional floor plan, in that each of the rooms is separate; you get from one to the other via the balcony. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and an a/c unit. This was a great arrangement for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers). My husband loves modern design and appreciated its architectural features: the exposed rafters, the cantilevered roof with clerestory windows, the decorative wood framing in the kitchen. The house has a great central location in Nosara near Playa Guiones - a bustling neighborhood during the day but quiet at night, and just a five minute walk to the beach. The downstairs neighbors (and their dogs) were friendly and helpful. Lovely sunsets, great surfing, and numerous jungle trails were some of the highlights of our visit!

We enjoyed our stay and the place is very unique, with original details. A special highlight was sweet Cosi, puppy, who lived downstairs ❤️ To note: - This is shown in the listing, but it's important to know that all rooms are separate and accessed from the balcony/ deck area. - The AC worked well in each individual room. - The common area is the big dining table and small kitchen or the outside couch area shown (make sure you have mosquito repellent 🦟!) - Good spot for location and access to the beach. - Limited cooking options, a cooktop, no oven.

Great location, walking distance to the beach, makets, restaurants. comfortable bedrooms both with good bathrooms. I only wish the kitchen was a little bit more equipped. I recommend this place
