Casa Lora is a two-bedroom lakefront house on Ometepe with an infinity pool, tropical gardens, and indoor-outdoor living. It sleeps up to 8 guests near Balgue and Maderas Volcano trails.
Overview
Escape the hustle and bustle at Casa Lora, a newly renovated, luxurious two-bedroom lakefront home on beautiful Ometepe Island. Whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with a group, this home is designed to meet your needs.
The property features beautiful gardens, an infinity pool overlooking the lake, and a tropical setting surrounded by nature. Open the front double doors to create a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.
The Space
The home is surrounded by a mature garden filled with mango and coconut trees, herbs, and abundant flowers. As a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Ometepe is also home to a wide variety of wildlife that may visit the property.
Yellow-naped parrots, known locally as Lora Nuca Amarilla, regularly fly overhead. Howler monkeys often visit the mango trees during fruit season, while cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys can be seen wandering along the road.
Outdoor Areas and Pool
Relax in a hammock or sit in the wooden rocking chairs on the outdoor patio. The front porch leads directly into the infinity pool, which includes two shallow sections at different depths—ideal for sunbathing or children to play.
A bench in the deep end provides a comfortable place to enjoy the stunning sunsets over the lake.
Living Area
Although Ometepe is best known for its outdoor experiences and natural surroundings, Casa Lora also offers a comfortable indoor retreat. The spacious, open-plan living area features bright white walls and distinctive artwork with a tropical bird motif.
The living room includes:
- A sofa set
- A pull-out sofa
- A Smart TV
- Local cable channels
- 20 Mbps fiber-optic internet
- Battery backup for the internet connection
The comfortable seating provides space for everyone to relax, while the Smart TV and cable channels offer entertainment on quiet evenings or rainy days.
Kitchen and Dining Area
The fully equipped kitchen includes new stainless-steel appliances:
- Refrigerator with freezer
- Six-burner stove with oven
- Microwave
You will find everything needed to prepare home-cooked meals using fresh tropical ingredients.
The unique dining table is made from a live-edge wood slab and comfortably seats six people. It is one of several distinctive examples of Nicaraguan handicrafts throughout the home.
Bedrooms
The master bedroom is located downstairs and includes:
- Queen-size bed
- Full-size wardrobe
- Air conditioning
- Ceiling fan
- Screened windows
The room is slightly more spacious than the second bedroom. On breezy nights, you can turn off the air conditioning, open the screened windows, and fall asleep to the sounds of the lake and jungle.
The loft bedroom is accessed via a distinctive iron spiral staircase and includes:
- Queen-size bed
- Bunk beds
- Air conditioning
- Sliding glass door to the upstairs balcony
The upstairs balcony is ideal for sunrise yoga or relaxing in a hammock after a day of activities.
Bathrooms
The bathroom is located on the first floor. Its shower has been newly retiled with traditional-style ceramic and includes adjustable hot water.
A second outdoor shower is available for rinsing off after swimming or returning from a muddy hike.
Location and Activities
Casa Lora is located on the paved road, approximately 1.5 kilometers from Balgue, a small local town.
Nearby attractions and conveniences include:
- The trailhead for hiking Maderas Volcano
- A natural spring for swimming
- Restaurants
- Small local stores
Although several activities and amenities are within walking distance, Ometepe is a large island and taxi service can be expensive. If you plan to explore beyond the immediate area, we recommend arriving with your own vehicle or renting one during your stay.
We are happy to help arrange tours or transportation during your stay at Casa Lora.
Guest Access
Guests have access to:
- The entire house
- The pool
- The full property
Workers are present during the day to maintain the pool, gardens, and house. Cleaning service is provided every second day. If you require additional privacy during your stay, please let us know.
Important Information
Insects and Wildlife
Ometepe is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with a wide variety of wildlife, including many insects. Most are relatively harmless, although some may bite or sting.
Because Casa Lora is located in the jungle, encountering insects on the property is certain. These may include:
- Ants
- Spiders
- Scorpions
- Wasps and bees
- Mosquitoes
- Swarming gnats, locally called Xioles
- Centipedes
- Other insects
Xioles do not bite but can be annoying. They typically do not remain in one area for long.
None of these species are aggressive, toxic to humans, or considered dangerous.
Snakes are also present on Ometepe, although it is very rare to find them on the property. The island does have one venomous snake, the coral snake, but sightings are uncommon.
Always avoid unfamiliar snakes and wild animals, including monkeys. This is the jungle.
The house is screened to help keep insects outside, although some may still find their way indoors.
To help reduce insects:
- Close the doors around sunset.
- Turn off unnecessary outdoor lights.
- Avoid eating on the sofas.
- Do not leave food uncovered, as it can attract ants.
Power and Internet
Ometepe is a remote island in a developing country, so power and internet outages are common, particularly during the rainy season.
A backup battery bank is provided, but it does not power the entire house.
Casa Lora is a beautiful home in the jungle on a remote island. Please arrive with an open mind and an appreciation for the natural surroundings.

Beautiful accommodation, close to restaurants (Pital) and Playa Mangos, popular due to their reviews on digital platforms. However, the accommodation is so cozy that you won't want to leave the pool and enjoy the views. The hosts are very warm and helpful people. We will definitely be back.

A fantastic stay! Communication with Sally was excellent—fast, responsive, and friendly from booking to checkout. The home was exactly as described: spotless, cozy, and perfectly located for exploring Isla de Ometepe. Incredible value for the price, and we’d definitely stay again!

Very disappointed; wish someone had warned us. While the location is pretty, that is the only positive. Shortly after arrival, the power cut out unexpectedly & repeatedly throughout our stay, cutting the lights, fans, AC, WiFi & running water. The host just directed us to a router battery pack. It is misleading & cruel to not warn guests about frequent outages that leave you without necessities!! in a dark jungle. To add, the bug infestation is EGREGIOUS. Huge pregnant spiders, hornets, cockroaches & mosquitoes EVERYWHERE. Swarms upstairs forced us all to pack into the downstairs bedroom (the only room w/ AC btw). The pest control & sealing are incredibly poor. Cleanliness was also poor; the bathroom, stove & amenities were dirty & dishes were covered in dust & bugs. The cleaner would come & no difference would be made. Note that multiple workers show up daily & TV apps do not work except YouTube. Also, a friendly cat lives/eats here & lays on the furniture - beware if allergic.

Its a very nice house located in the best area of Ometepe (in my personal opinion) but I would suggest adding a mesh to the main door so that the bugs dont come in that easily. Also potentially adding a air conditioning for the upstairs bedroom, and just make sure that the mesh below the roof are well positioned so that bugs dont enter. Besides that, everything was clean, the pool was clean, bathroom was clean. Would totally recommend if you have no issues with bugs at night and throughout the day

Good afternoon, we were very disappointed with our choice. The pool is dirty. The house was very dirty, with dust, cockroaches, cockroach droppings, cobwebs, and the floor hadn't been cleaned at all; the toilet was also dirty. The dishes were very dirty; before using anything, I had to wash it. There was no dishwashing liquid, no sponge, and no garbage bags. After I wrote to the host, she responded quickly, and a helper came, but instead of laundry detergent, she brought us washing powder. I was shocked. They promised they would come in the morning to clean, but no one ever showed up. It's best not to choose this place with children, as we didn't sleep all night because of cockroaches that crawled over our child. For the first time on our trips, I was very disappointed with the house.

It didn't meet our expectations in terms of the value for the price. The photos misrepresented the reality a bit. It was not clean and very open to hot air and bugs. We should've read more closely to see there is only AC in one bedroom. There was also a cat inside when we arrived and one of our party is allergic. On the plus side, the pool is very nice and well maintained and the surroundings are beautiful.
