Beautiful property, ok home, terrible host.
I'll start with the good. This house is within a truly beautiful property. The landscaping is stunning, the weather was perfect and there is a very nice beach. It feels extremely safe and is so well kept.
This particular house is one of the furthest from the beach and closest to the highway within the grounds of the gated community. It could nearly be described as a "townhouse" as the house next door is only a few feet away and the outdoor patios share a wall. Technically speaking however "single family" would be correct. Since the house next to us was vacant during our stay this was not a big issue. The house overlooks the golf course, the highway and the ocean through a interrupted view.
The most frustrating and embarrassing part of our trip was the access to the property. A week before our trip the host notified us that the property access to the resort and private beach club would not be available to us, due to the property changing their rules on short term renters. Of course the host cannot control this. The host could have controlled their deceit however. When we contacted Airbnb for support, the host had since removed the claim of club access from the listing and claimed it "never available. This is an outright fabrication as we have screenshots of the Airbnb listing prior to their edits. We also have the messages indicating that "the rules changed and now you cannot access"... Its a pathetic attempt of revenue protection.
I booked this trip for Thanksgiving with my wife and in-laws. We were keenly interested in in the access to these more exclusive and limited areas of the property. The host refused to allow us a cancelation to rebook, any form of discount and Airbnb similarly offered no support.
Once on property it was difficult to ascertain what we did and did not have access two. Twice we were ushered from areas that, unknown to us we could not access. The second time, from the "club" pool, we had already found a cabana, organized our towels and began relaxing- security showed up to walk us to the exit as if we were not planning to pay for the drinks we had just ordered. It was a miserable series of experiences.
I don't doubt that the host is going to respond to this review with a series of misguided representations of what they "believe" happened. But to anyone considering this property, find another within this community and book that. It would be difficult to find a less desired house or host within this large community. This was a regretful experience.
