Casa Quetzal offers one of the best views in town. The home is tucked into tropical forests in Sayulita's northern hills; The Pacific Ocean and a sea breeze constant companions. Mini Split AC recently added in each of the bedrooms.
The main square of Sayulita is less than a mile away and the sea is about a ten minute walk down Nanzal Hill. Walking or living on Nanzal is not for everyone; it's wild, it's steep, it's jungle, but if you love a view, Quetzal awaits.
The space Casa Quetzal has welcomed guests through its doors since 2006. We purchased Quetzal in 2017 and are the second owners to one of the first homes in Sayulita's Nanzal Hill. If you have stayed with us before you will appreciate that Abel, the same local host continues to run the day to day operations of the home.
The house is a four floor home and comfortably sleeps seven people. From every room there are amazing views, and the glass doors open up toward the ocean. You can see the sea from every room of the house and can hear the waves rolling into the sandy beaches. There's a comfy sofa, love set and chair in the living room and chairs in the bedrooms. The pool chairs are new as is the table and chairs on the roof patio.
There are three bedrooms on the second level. All three have mini split AC powered by our own solar panels. The master bed-room with a king-sized bed has its own bathroom, shower and little balcony overlooking the garden. The middle room has a king-sized bed and is connected by a bathroom to the third bedroom with a king sized bed. The fourth bed-room has a single bed and private bathroom and opens up to a balcony and garden. New sliding screen doors made from Parota wood were hand made and installed in November, 2019.
Sheets and bath towels are provided as are beach towels. There is a washer and dryer available and use will be coordinated through housekeeping or Abel Hernandez, our co host.
The private saltwater pool stretches into the endless view of the ocean below, with patio space for sunbathers and a outdoor tiled shower. The roof is a large, open space with a grill, a dinner table, and shaded hammocks to lounge in on hot afternoons.
The kitchen and living room space opens up into a breezy patio with gorgeous sunsets every evening. The kitchen is fully functional and ready to accommodate a home cooked meal with the produce and fresh fish you bring up from town. Bottled drinking water is provided. Mini Split AC units are in each of three main bedrooms and only in these three bedrooms.
The house sits on top of a steep hill, so bring your walking shoes! Some might prefer to rent a golf cart in town, if you aren’t already renting a car, to make the hill easier to climb. To others, the walk up and down is welcomed exercise.
Abel can assist in arranging a ride from the airport to Casa Quetzal, and will meet you at the house to acquaint you with your new home. We are happy to offer recommendations or help connect you to activities you choose but please keep in mind that these recommendations are for things that we prefer and your tastes may differ from ours. Our house keeper will come twice a week or more if you coordinate with Abel.
Guest access Guests have access to everything at Casa Quetzal but the laundry room. If you wish to have clothes washed please coordinate with Abel and our housekeeper and for a small fee, your laundry will be done.
Other things to note -Sayulita is bursting with building projects and though there are none in progress at Casa Quetzal or at any nearby homes, growth does offer the possibility of construction. -There are numerous locations at Casa Quetzal where we have chosen not to use a railing or barrier in order to optimize the lines to the sea. If you have young children or prefer railings, our house might not be for you. -Please note that new mini split ac units have been added to the four bedrooms but this is the extent of our AC at the casa. In addition to the mini splits there are ceiling fans throughout the house, floor fans as well. -Please remember that Sayulita is in the tropics. The humidity here is real. We constantly paint and repair surfaces but we don't always keep up with mother nature. -Please keep the home locked when you are not here. -You are responsible for your keys. If they are lost we will rekey every door and safe at the home and you will be responsible for the cost. This is for your safety and ours.

Jamie and Abel are very attentive people and were always available. It's a steep climb up to the house, but it's completely worth it. The house has a beautiful view and it's very quiet.

We had an extremely relaxing weekend. Jamie's house is super comfortable and offers everything you need for a relaxing, quiet stay, like being at home but away from everyday life. We would definitely choose Casa Quetzal again for a weekend getaway from the city 😮💨

We had a great stay! Abel and Jamie were super communicative and helpful. They helped us with transport and a golf cart rental before we got there, as well as super responsive to any questions we had throughout our stay. The views are incredible! Highlight of our stay

Excellent stay, the house matches the photos, it is fully equipped in every way, the views are amazing, and everything is private for the guests. I recommend golf carts; it's more accessible and fun. We enjoyed our vacation at Casa Quetzal.

If you want beautiful views from every window and every room, this is the pace for you! We loved waking up to hear bird songs and watching the birds on the roof after sunrise. The sunset from any level is simply breathtaking, set your clock and make watching the sunset part of your daily agenda. The road up is steep and technical, but our golf cart made it up! We recommend making a little trek through the jungle to the secluded beach. Thank you for the beautiful home!

There is no doubt that Jamie's place has a spectacular view, especially from the roof deck! The house was clean and well laid out. We enjoyed our stay until our last night at the house when we discovered that all of our cash had been stolen from the safe in the Primary bedroom. The website and the guest book state that you should lock the house when not there, which we did diligently. We are unsure if someone had a key to the safe or we were robbed while we were home at the house. We kept the doors open as instructed in the guest manual. Also, the guest manual states that there are cameras and there are none as they had been removed prior to our stay. Jamie, the owner, stated that he always locks the house up when he is home. Jamie confirmed that we were to be told this during check in. We were not. Want you all to be aware of the contradictions and be safe. Keep the doors closed and locked at all times even when home, which is difficult with no AC in the living room and kitchen.

Absolutely gorgeous house and views of the ocean. Everything was really clean and comfortable. A well stocked kitchen. Seemed like a pretty safe neighborhood, mostly very quiet compared to the party scene in town. The only drawback really is the crazy steep hill and road. You will need golf carts to get up or down. Luckily the hatchback car we had rented was able to do it, but we did bottom out a few times. You need a driver that is well experienced with steep curvy roads.
