A private rainforest-facing deck sets Villa 28B apart. This one-bedroom condo sleeps two in Ciudad Cortés, with a full kitchen, walk-in shower, and access to a pool, trails, and community gardens.
The Space
Villa 28B is a 602 square foot, one-bedroom duplex situated all on a single level, ideal for solo travelers or couples. The bedroom features a queen-sized bed, side tables, a dresser, a large closet, and ceiling fans. There is currently no air conditioning.
The villa includes one bathroom with a walk-in shower. The rest of the interior is an open-plan layout with tiled floors throughout. This space contains a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops, a four-burner electric stove with oven, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster.
Adjacent to the kitchen is a dining area with a table and four chairs. The living room offers a couch, side tables, and a TV. Due to the remote location, there is no cable TV, but internet access is available for streaming from personal devices. Guests are encouraged to bring an HDMI cable to use the TV as a screen.
Outside, there is a large covered deck measuring 340 square feet, furnished with a table and chairs. The private deck overlooks the rainforest.
Location
Villa 28B is located within Toucan Valley, a secluded and peaceful resort community nestled in the mountains of Costa Rica’s Southern zone. The property is set amid 750 acres of primary rainforest, providing a tranquil escape surrounded by nature.
The villa serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby jungle hiking trails, waterfalls, vegetable gardens, and abundant bird and plant life on the property. Guests can also access local attractions such as mangrove tours, snorkeling, beaches, zip lines, and wildlife viewing, all accessible from the foot of the mountain.
Amenities and Community Features
Residents of Toucan Valley have access to several community amenities, including:
- A swimming pool at the community center
- A self-service bar area offering drinks and snacks
- Recreational facilities such as a pool table and ping pong
- Comfortable seating areas for relaxation
- A community laundry room
- A small library of books
- An open-air hall suitable for yoga and other activities
Community events take place at least once a week, including movie nights with dinner. Guests are also welcome to harvest greens, vegetables, and seasonal fruits from the community gardens and fruit forest, with assistance available from residents or staff.
Additional Information
Traveling to Costa Rica’s less developed Southern region is best suited for adventurous visitors. After leaving the main highway (Route 34, also known as the Costanera), guests must drive 7 kilometers along a dirt road to reach the villa. The route offers stunning scenery but includes steep and uneven sections that may be challenging, especially during the rainy season.
A four-wheel-drive vehicle is required year-round to access the village and villa.
The nearest supermarkets, restaurants, and stores are approximately 35 minutes away. A small local restaurant near Toucan Valley operates during the high season (December to April) and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner by reservation only, including takeout options.
Guests are advised to bring food and supplies before heading up the mountain and to take advantage of the villa’s full kitchen.
Upon arrival, enjoy the lush greenery surrounding you and the natural symphony of the rainforest.

This was a really nice place, remote (in terms of driving - the recommended 4x4 is definitely needed!) with stunning views and a lovely little house. Large kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, nice lounge; large covered terrace to sit and watch the wildlife passing by. The host was easy to communicate with and very generous with my early check-in request. If you have the right vehicle, check it out!
