Overview
Lodge Chinatzul Sandra is a spectacular waterfront house on Lake Atitlán, situated on the slopes of San Pedro Volcano. This exclusive, eco-friendly property is accessible only by boat.
Surrounded by nature and offering remarkable views, the home is shared with Sandra, the caretaker Nico, and three friendly outdoor cats: Ishtán, Nieves, and Bahlám.
The Space
Lodge Chinatzul Sandra is an off-grid, self-sufficient villa equipped with its own solar panel system and solar water heater. The property supports only low-voltage appliances.
- Hair dryers are not permitted.
- Microwaves are not permitted.
- Irons are not permitted.
- Washing machines and dryers are not available.
- Small appliances must use no more than 800 watts.
The villa is constructed from natural stone and cement. It stays cool during the day and retains the sun’s warmth at night, so neither air conditioning nor heating is necessary. The house was designed for natural airflow and does not require fans.
Because the property is located on the slopes of San Pedro Volcano, native flora and fauna surround the house. Please exercise caution, as you are sharing the area with wildlife.
Lodge Chinatzul Sandra is well suited to a private retreat focused on creativity, meditation, yoga, painting, writing, listening to nature, stargazing, and watching the sunrise and moonrise.
Guest Access
The property can only be reached by boat. Transportation to and from Santiago Atitlán is provided at check-in and check-out.
Please remain within the clearly marked property boundaries. Upon arrival, the caretaker will provide a property tour in Spanish.
The grounds include uneven terrain and stairs and are not wheelchair accessible.
Food and Cooking
There is no cook available, so guests must bring their own groceries and prepare their meals.
Temazcal
A Temazcal, or Mayan steam bath, is available on the premises for 10-minute sessions.
- Request the service through the app one day in advance.
- The Temazcal will be prepared for 9:00 a.m. the following day.
- The caretaker will be available for the service until 10:00 a.m.
- The 10-minute session may take place at any time between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.
Trips to Town
To arrange a trip to town, submit a request through the app one day in advance.
- Round trip to Santiago: Q75
- Available: Any day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The caretaker leaves the property at 10:00 a.m., drops guests off at the municipal dock, and waits there for the return trip to the house at 12:00 p.m.

Staying at Sandra’s was an exciting adventure from the moment of being picked up by private boat in Panajachel for my first time at Lake Atitlan. Some of my favorite things to do were swimming off the dock, and looking up at Chuk Chuk (volcan San Pedro) sitting proudly behind and above the house. Also, seeing the hummingbirds in the garden, getting to know the cats, and the neighbors dogs were fun. Was also fascinated by how many different shades of blue the water can be at any given moment on the lake. However, the most special experiences were taking to the boat to Santiago with Nico; grocery shopping. I got to meet the Tzʼutujil Mayans in their village and spend time with the community of Santiago. These interactions were always heartfelt and touching. We enjoyed learning from one another and it was a real honor to have these experiences. In conclusion, the house is beautiful, modern, secluded, and has something to offer everyone. Puro Utz!
