Overview

Casita del Mar is an eco-friendly aqua villa built over the Caribbean Sea in Dolphin Bay on Isla Cristobal, part of Panama’s Bocas del Toro archipelago.

The villa sits beside a mile-long coral reef, approximately 25 minutes by boat from Bocas Town and the airport, and two hours from the Costa Rica border. Guests have direct access to beautiful hiking trails, as well as complimentary snorkeling equipment, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and boogie boards.

The Space

Built in 2017 using locally sourced natural materials, Casita del Mar offers an intimate experience surrounded by nature while minimizing its environmental impact. The villa combines comfortable accommodations with renewable energy systems, including:

• Solar panels that provide electricity
• Double-filtered rainwater for the villa’s water supply
• Natural ventilation from the Caribbean breeze
• Ceiling fans throughout the villa and covered outdoor areas

From the private 30-foot terrace, guests can enjoy impressive sunsets, watch dolphins in the bay, and listen to the sounds of the surrounding jungle. The terrace includes hammocks, comfortable outdoor lounge furniture, and dining space. Guests can also relax in the terrazzo bathtub while looking toward the jungle after snorkeling in the calm, protected waters in front of the villa.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The villa has two upstairs bedrooms:

• The master suite includes a king-size bed, nightstands, a large dresser, a soaking tub, a vanity, a separate toilet, and a small table and chair.
• The second bedroom includes a queen-size bed, a single pull-out sofa, a vanity, and a toilet.

Downstairs, the main bathroom features:

• A large walk-in shower
• A vanity
• A toilet

Kitchen and Outdoor Areas

The open-plan kitchen includes:

• Granite countertops
• Stainless-steel appliances
• Custom cabinetry

The 30-foot almendro hardwood deck features:

• Hammocks
• Outdoor dining furniture
• Outdoor lounge furniture
• An outdoor hot shower

Water Activities and Equipment

Guests have unlimited complimentary use of the following equipment at the villa:

• Kayaks
• Boogie boards
• Stand-up paddleboards
• A large selection of snorkeling gear

The property also has a locally made Panaga boat with a roof and bench seating. It is comfortable for the full house and can be used for exploring or customized tours. The boat is dedicated to the villa and is available to rent with a captain at the guests’ convenience. Additional charges apply.

Guests have direct access to miles of trails leading through lagoons, over mountains, and to secluded viewpoints.

Arrival and Guest Services

Upon arrival, hosts will meet guests at the airport and take them shopping for provisions. Guests will then continue to the dock for a 25-minute boat ride across the bay to Casita del Mar.

After arrival, guests will receive a welcome and tour of the property and its amenities. Additional trips to town for provisions can be arranged for an extra charge.

Optional services are also available, including:

Internet and Cell Service

The villa provides free wireless internet and cell service through a local network provider.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the entire villa.

Important Information

Casita del Mar is located in a remote area of a developing country. Property services depend on weather conditions and local providers, so some circumstances may be beyond the hosts’ control. The hosts will do their best to ensure a pleasant stay.

The villa may not be suitable for small children or children who do not know how to swim. The deck does not have a railing, and the spiral staircase to the upstairs bedrooms has large gaps.
