The Space
Barcaza María del Mar offers a unique stay aboard a handcrafted boat transformed into an authentic six-bedroom accommodation. The property features an outdoor kitchen and natural surroundings, located just 2 kilometers from some of the most beautiful beaches in Guanacaste. It is an ideal spot for relaxation, enjoyment, and creating lasting memories.

Room 1: This is the main bedroom with a private bathroom, situated at the highest point of the boat. Access requires climbing stairs to the main deck, then descending to the room.

Room 2: Located on the second floor in the upper section of the boat, this room includes a private bathroom. Guests reach it by climbing stairs to the main deck and then going down to the room.

Room 3: Positioned in the lower part of the boat where the fishing icebox once was, this special room has a small original window and limited height—1.2 meters overall and 60 centimeters in the bed area. Despite the compact size, it is very comfortable and offers a unique experience. The bathroom is shared and located outside the room.

Room 4: Found at the back of the barge facing the pools and common area, this room has a private bathroom, two queen-size beds, and a mini refrigerator.

Tent 1: Situated at the highest point of the property, this tent offers a 360-degree view and is ideal for two guests. It shares a bathroom with other guests.

Tent 2: Located on the northern side of the property with mountain views, this tent accommodates two people and also shares a bathroom.
Guest Access
The property sits on a small hill, with Barcaza María del Mar positioned at its summit, providing excellent views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Access involves a slightly steep gravel road, but any type of vehicle can reach the property. There are three parking areas available:

Parking 1: Suitable for light vehicles. This lot does not require driving uphill, but guests must walk about 50 meters along a natural path that includes hills and stairs to reach the boat.

Parking 2: Best for 4x4 or high-clearance vehicles. This lot requires driving up two steep slopes to the main parking area, followed by climbing approximately 10 stairs.

Parking 3: Also ideal for 4x4 or high-clearance vehicles, this lot is closest to the barge. It involves ascending two steep slopes and climbing about 5 stairs to reach the accommodation.

I had an excellent experience during my stay. The place was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location was convenient and the host was always attentive and willing to help with any questions. The check-in and check-out process was straightforward, and everything matched the published description. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay here again in the future.

We had a great time at this unique and original place. The place is very clean and has great views, really nice at any time of day. Restaurants are easily accessible within a few minutes' drive, which is very convenient. The host is responsive, proactive, and always available to meet your needs, which makes the experience even smoother and more enjoyable. Only one small area for improvement: the kitchen, which can be a bit limited if you are a large group and want to cook regularly, particularly due to the lack of an oven and dishwasher. We would recommend it in a second for a getaway!

Thank you, Juan! This stay is exactly like the pictures, and also better. We only stayed 1 night but we are missing it already. In our very short stay we saw many birds and parakeets and even an iguana that hung out with us all morning. This stay truly exceeded me and my family's expectations. Book this special place that you will not ever forget. Not only is it a wonderful stay but a fun memory to cherish. The AC was very nice. Pool super clean and PERFECT temperature. This is a fantastic place—a true highlight of our vacation! It’s very private and peaceful. The pictures don’t capture its full scale. There’s plenty of outdoor space with beautiful views. The pools and surrounding area are gorgeous, very safe, and convenient. The open-air kitchen is a joy to spend time in—whether cooking, eating, working, or just hanging out.

We had the best vacation- Juan’s place is magical! It’s a bit challenging to get up the driveway but after the first time it’s a breeze! The pool is the perfect temperature- the rooms all have AC, the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to make fabulous meals! We are looking forward to returning next year! I highly recommend this very special home!!
