The Bamboo Bungalow
This cabin is built using a blend of techniques and various materials, aiming to revive the use of traditional materials and aesthetics. Most of the bamboo and all the wood were reclaimed from the bamboo forest and fallen trees following Hurricane Nate in October 2017. Each cabin on the property is uniquely designed by me, with every piece of furniture custom-made and handcrafted specifically for each cabin.
The bungalow measures 30 square meters and offers a lake view through its window. It includes a fully private bathroom with a hot water shower and a private kitchen. Natural light fills the space through the windows, enhanced by a combination of traditional palm materials and semi-transparent fiberglass sheets. The walls are coated with real palm, which helps maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
Guests have access to the gardens of both properties, where they can harvest select fruits and vegetables. There is also access to the beach and a lakeside terrace that provides views of the sunrise, sunset, and moonrise.
The project is centered around the principles of the 3 Rs: Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse. Separate areas are designated for organic and non-organic waste disposal.
The gardens are thoughtfully designed and planted to attract a variety of wildlife. Visitors can expect to see approximately 12 to 15 different bird species and various animals, including squirrels, iguanas, monkeys, possums, eagles, caracaras, magpies, hummingbirds, and numerous butterfly species.
