The Space
The house is accessed through a long hallway with three bays serving the service area and staircase. The hallway ends at the main patio, around which the social areas are arranged.
The main courtyard features a pool, trees, and plants. Beyond the living room, a smaller planted patio provides additional atmosphere and ventilation for the ground floor.
The staircase leads to a spacious, two-room lobby separated by an elliptical arch. This area provides access to two bedrooms and the balcony overlooking the patio. Restored 17th-century wall paintings decorate the walls opposite the staircase, while the floor features reclaimed 19th-century cement tiles.
Bedrooms
- The main bedroom is located to the left of the staircase, in the former living room of the colonial house. It features Mudejar-style coffered ceilings, a street-facing balcony, a double bed, and a private bathroom.
- The second bedroom is accessed through the hallway and is ventilated and illuminated by the gallery overlooking the patio. It has two beds and a private bathroom.
- The third bedroom opens onto the interior balcony, or gallery, and contains three beds and a private bathroom.
- The fourth bedroom is located on the second floor. It is spacious, features a facade and balcony overlooking the second patio, and includes a private bathroom. Its design and atmosphere are unique within the house.
From the main bedroom’s balcony, guests can watch the horse-drawn carriages that carry visitors through Cartagena’s historic streets. The sound of horseshoes striking the stones of Don Sancho Street evokes the era when carriages were the preferred transportation of Cartagena’s high society.
Terraces and Views
A staircase leads to two terraces through a hallway with a service counter.
The first terrace has three sun loungers and an outdoor shower. It is an ideal place to relax while enjoying views of the surrounding rooftops.
The second terrace features a lookout with majestic views across the city center, including the dome of San Pedro Alejandrino. The sea is also visible in the distance, the same sea that Maestro Obregón viewed from his former home, located diagonally across from Casa Uprimny.
The lookout is a favorite spot for watching the sunset, accompanied by the cool sea breeze and its soothing sounds.
Historical Features
Casa Uprimny has been carefully restored while preserving its original character and architectural details.
- Three large wall paintings, created using the tempera technique during the first decades of the 17th century, are located in the upper-floor halls.
- The restorers’ interpretation suggests that the paintings depict three caravels by unknown artists.
- All woodwork, except for structural elements, was created by recycling original pieces.
- The decoration throughout the house reflects the period in which it was built.

Everything was absolutely perfect. The style of the historic house, the terrace with 360 views. The friendliness of the staff and the excellent breakfast. Very seamless communication with the host. We fell in love with this house. It is very well located in the center which made it much easier for us to get around. I completely recommend it.

The house is a masterpiece of fading colonial grandeur with high ceilings, interesting frescoes and a quite superb terrace. The performance of the housekeeper and her team is absolutely top class - she works very hard indeed and has great dignity. The location in the centre of the historical district is exceptional. Highly recommended.

Our stay in Patricia’s house was perfect. The house was beautiful and extremelly well situated, in the historical center of Cartagena, and still very calm. Anna prepared great breakfast and dinner and we felt just at home! Again, many thanks for us!

Such a beautiful house inside the walled city. Perfect location. You will feel like you’re back in time. So charming. Anita and Jose were extremely attentive, they help us with absolutely anything we needed, the only downside is that the house doesn’t have AC, but we knew it, my husband and son got in the pool to cool down many times a day even just before going to bed. Our stay at this house was absolutely amazing!

Patricia’s house was lovely. It felt very old world Cartagena. All of the spaces were indoor/outdoor, which we loved. The fans are essential as it gets very hot. I would Imagine it might be challenging for those used to AC. Having the pool in the open courtyard was amazing, especially for our kids to play in and cool off. The location in the walled city but a short walk to Getsamani (but not on a highly trafficked street) was perfect. Anna and Luz were very friendly and kept the house clean plus a freshly prepared breakfast every morning when we awoke was awesome.

Amazing spot, incredible staff, beautiful spacious living, centrally located. One thing to note is that there is no AC, so it is hot. I’d still stay again, we absolutely loved it!

We stayed 2 nights at Patricia's house and everything was perfect. Ana and Jose are part of the house service and helped us with all kinds of arrangements. The house is very large and comfortable, just like in the photos. Inside the wall area and a 5-minute walk from all the sites/restaurants in the area. Highly recommended

Being partially raised in Cartagena myself, I have always found myself awing at all the old colonial homes. As years have passed, more and more of those houses cartagena have been sold. And now tall, unsightly buildings sit in their stead. Casa Umprimny, was the breath of fresh air we needed. The photos of this house simply do it no justice, yet we’re what convinced us in the first place. I felt like I was truly living in luxury I’d never had the pleasure of experiencing before. Ana was kind and her cooking was exactly what we were looking for. She and her sister are very thorough with their attention to details. Especially in the sense of housekeeping, assuring that the rooms are all tidy throughout the day whenever not in them. They are the foundation of Casa Uprimny! It’s unfortunate we couldn’t have our own key to enter and exit. We didn’t want to be bothering Ana late at night to open the door for us. We understand why a key is not given, however, it’s something to consider.

An amazing experience. Prior to the trip, communication with Patricia was very fluid, always answering our questions and even helping us with some issues we needed advice on. Once there, everything flowed perfectly: the bed was beautiful and very clean. We want to highlight Mrs. Ana and José, who made our stay very pleasant at all times: exquisite breakfasts, very delicious lunches, always concerned about us... really having that level of hosts left us MORE than happy with this property.
