The Space

An Authentic Costa Rica Escape

Villa Koora combines modern comfort with a strong sense of place. It was designed to belong to its surroundings—nestled in the jungle on the Pacific slope and unmistakably Costa Rican—rather than resemble a sterile glass-and-steel retreat.

Slide open the screen door, and you are just steps from cacao and coconut trees whose fruit you can pick yourself. Each morning, butterflies, toucans, and tropical birds move through the jungle canopy outside the windows. Troops of howler and white-faced monkeys often pass through the property, swinging from branch to branch and chattering overhead. Sloths can be seen slowly climbing through the trees above the yard.

Anteaters, kinkajous, agoutis, and coatis also visit the grounds. These are the kinds of wildlife sightings that often require a guided tour, yet here they may appear right from your own porch. This is not a resort-style version of the country—it is Costa Rica in its natural setting.

The Villa

Villa Koora is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home located 15 minutes east of Dominical on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast. The property is easy to access, with local markets and family-run sodas just a 10-minute drive away.

Set in the quiet community of Valle de los Caballos, the villa is private, secure, and recently renovated. The updates include a complete kitchen remodel while preserving the home’s authentic Costa Rican character.

Sleeping and Living Spaces

Two master suites are positioned at opposite ends of the house. Each includes:

• A queen-size bed
• An en-suite bathroom
• A walk-in wardrobe
• An outdoor shower

The third guest bedroom also has a queen-size bed and a private bathroom just outside the room, complete with a bathtub. Every bedroom has access to a private bathroom, and air conditioning throughout the home keeps each room cool and comfortable.

The recently remodeled kitchen is spacious and fully equipped. It features island seating and an eight-seat dining table, making it well suited for preparing fresh seafood or blending smoothies with fruit grown on the property.

The grounds include lemon, lime, orange, mango, papaya, lychee, guava, mangosteen, machete guava, and starfruit trees. Fruit stands line the main road, with some also offering local crafts.

Inside, local and regional artwork gives the home its distinctive character. Boruca Indian masks decorate the walls, while handmade crafts fill the shelves. The result is a welcoming home with a genuine sense of place rather than a showroom-like atmosphere.

Outdoor Living

Villa Koora’s outdoor areas are surrounded by native plants and tropical greenery. The 25-by-10-foot swimming pool remains a comfortable temperature year-round.

The Sonos system extends onto the patio, allowing you to enjoy music indoors and outside. Spend an afternoon by the pool watching monkeys move through the surrounding canopy or spotting a sloth resting in the branches overhead.

The outdoor area includes:
