Enchanted Castle

The Space

This unique building sits in the lush forest overlooking Lake Atitlan. It offers a chance to reconnect with the natural sounds of the forest, take a break from daily routines, and step away from the outside world. The castle is a work of art in itself, inviting you to experience the magic of this special space.

We created an alternative community with the castle as its shared center. Over time, community members added their own homes, and children were born here. Four natural births have taken place on site, inspiring many people.

The castle evolved from a Buddhist teaching that emphasizes relaxation as the most important practice. Through relaxation and tolerance, we have created a magical, artistic environment where guests can find rest and reconnect with nature.

We open our home to guests, which means we also live in the building. This is the opposite of minimalist living: an alternative, continually evolving, off-grid environment. Please do not expect high standards or conventional accommodations.

Guest Access

The main platform is well suited for morning meditation, yoga, or personal practice. It is also a gathering place around the fire as the sun sets.

History and Setting

The castle is built around an old ruin. According to local stories, a German tour guide constructed the structure in the 1970s. The 1976 earthquake damaged the building, and guerrilla soldiers lived there during the 1980s.

Friends familiar with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s family said that he stayed near Godinez in the 1970s. At that time, the region was far less developed, making it plausible that two Europeans enjoyed sharing stories of their adventures there. I like to imagine that this view may have inspired part of his writing of The Little Prince.
