There are several restaurants nearby The volcano Maderas forms half of the island Ometepe, contrasting and rivaling with the other half, Volcano Conception, in its style and beauty. Isla Ometepe, which sits in the middle of the largest lake in the Central American tropics, was named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in June 2010. The house itself is at the base of Maderas volcano. The extensive gardens feature a brick built oven, outdoor ‘pila’ for clothes washing, fruit trees, varieties of spinaches and other edible plants, which are yours for the taking as our guests. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a lounge area with 42 inch TV, and outdoor deck with seating and a double hammock and a fully-equipped kitchen with blender, toaster, french press and all the basics. Plenty of room for pets and kids and big kids alike to freely roam and enjoy the diversity of the abundant plants and wildlife in the area. Rare birds can often be seen passing over here as well as frequent howler monkey crossings over the driveway. The cabins are on the main (but not oft used) road just leaving the town of Balgue. Guests may often encounter small, shy jungle animals around the property, including birds, butterflies, bees, monkeys, frogs, toads, spiders, and small bats. Sometimes these creatures like to take shelter inside too. In keeping with our vision, we try to use natural remedies to eliminate them, which we are happy to share with you upon your arrival. NONE of these species are aggressive, toxic to humans, or otherwise dangerous. There is only one venomous animal on the whole island, the coral snake, which is timid and rarely ever seen. These creatures are found all over the island and make Ometepe a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve that is full of natural beauty and diversity.

To reach the property, follow the road from Balgue’s center, cross the Puente Balgue bridge, and find the cabins on the right side of the main road. Wooden signs for Selvist, La Bambouseraie, or Bona Fide indicate you have gone about 100 meters too far.

The entire property is set within a lush tropical forest teeming with wildlife, including birds, butterflies, bees, monkeys, frogs, toads, spiders, and small bats. Occasionally, these animals may seek shelter inside the cabin. The hosts use natural remedies to manage these creatures and are happy to share this information upon arrival.

None of the wildlife on the property is aggressive or harmful to humans. The only venomous animal on the island is the timid coral snake, which is rarely seen. This rich biodiversity contributes to Ometepe’s status as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
