Nature and Farm Life
Ometepe is surrounded by lush, wild nature. You should be comfortable sharing the environment with birds, monkeys, insects, and farm animals, including cats, dogs, and chickens.
The farm kitchen is open to the outdoors, and the cabin has openings for airflow. Although the cabin includes a high-quality mosquito net for sleeping, insects may occasionally be present in the cabin or kitchen. You may also hear monkeys, cows, horses, dogs, cats, or birds at night. These animals are not dangerous, but please book only if you are comfortable with this type of natural, off-grid setting.
Guests who enjoy this lifestyle love staying here. We are passionate about natural living and growing our own food.
Guest Access
You will have access to the farm kitchen and living area, as well as the surrounding property and permaculture garden.
We can arrange a trusted four-wheel-drive taxi from the ferry to the farm. Please contact us in advance if you would like to use this service.
The property is located on a dirt road accessible from the main paved road between Santa Cruz and Mérida. You can reach the farm by four-wheel-drive vehicle or motorcycle.
Arrival and Directions
Please do not use Google Maps to find the property. The farm is not listed there, and following the map may lead you astray. Follow these directions instead.
- On the road between Santa Cruz and Mérida, look for a large, painted yellow rock shaped like a wedge of cheese on the left.
- At the yellow rock, turn onto the stone-paved road, which becomes a dirt road.
- Follow the road as it curves and continues uphill.
- From the yellow rock, continue approximately 1.3 kilometers uphill, passing several houses.
- At the end of the road, take the sharp left onto a steep, stone-paved road leading up the hill.
- At the top of the stone-paved hill, the cabin is on the left.
- Farther into the property, you will find a brick building beside a greenhouse. This is the farm kitchen.
- If you reach the large white wooden house, you have gone too far.
The dirt road can become muddy during the rainy season, from June through December. A city car is not recommended, particularly during this period.
Important Arrival Information
Please avoid arriving after nightfall. Ometepe is largely off-grid, the dirt road is unlit, and the cabin is much easier to locate during daylight.
The cabin has no electricity, although candles are provided. The farm kitchen does have electricity. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp rather than relying only on your phone light.
If you arrive late and we are awake, we will help you. However, if we are not available—or if we are asleep—it may be difficult to find the cabin in the dark.
A four-wheel-drive vehicle or motorcycle is recommended so you can travel independently around the island. Alternatively, please bring everything you need with you. We are also happy to explain the walking route into town.
Additional Notes
- Candles are provided, but please bring a flashlight.
- Do not arrive at night unless you are confident navigating through wild nature without city lights.
- Please do not book if you are uncomfortable sharing the farm, and occasionally your surroundings, with insects.
- A high-quality mosquito net protects you while sleeping.
- The farm is a natural, off-grid environment, so occasional spiders or wasps may be present.
- Please book only if you are comfortable with the sounds and presence of wildlife and farm animals.

a timeless cabin with magnificent views of the volcano You have to be comfortable with nature to stay here, but if you are, it's a total disconnect. a peaceful haven! Jonathan and Josie are attentive to your needs, and the farm products are a plus!

Incredible spot! The road is a bit hard to get there by scooter, but once you are there it’s immaculate. Exactly what they describe. Beautiful cabin with a view of the volcano. You don’t have electricity in the room, so it can get a bit hot, but they provide candles for light. Outdoor shower was a highlight! Full kitchen, walkable from the room, with electricity and all listed amenities. They have incredible products we highly recommend you try! Eggs, ghee, and more! They are a very sweet family, we even got a tour of the garden from their little girl - so sweet :)

What an amazing place! We absolutely loved this beautiful cabin, where we were able to enjoy complete peace and privacy. The sunsets were beautiful, the accommodation met all our expectations, and it was nice to be so cut off from the rest of the world for a while!

Josie and Jonathan were the most lovely and attentive hosts we have ever met. The space they provided was so beautiful, a balance of simplicity and comfort that felt luxurious to us and made for a perfect experience for nature lovers - but be prepared to be faced with the natural elements of course! The view was divine and the whole experience was wonderful for nature lovers like us. What stood out most (even more than the amazing view) was their kindness and willingness to share their knowledge and story with us. We left extremely inspired, and would return to this area of Ometepe even if only to see them and the kids again!

The house is as described, and there is a very beautiful view. It was great to have an outdoor shower with hot water. The kitchen was well equipped. However, the outdoor toilet wasn't really our thing. And unfortunately, we ended up leaving early because there were bird droppings in the house.

We had such a wonderful stay here at this off-the-beaten-path gem! The property is surrounded by nature with beautiful views overlooking the volcano and lake. Staying here was such a unique and peaceful experience. We loved getting fresh produce from the farm, especially the amazing honey and Greek yogurt. Josie and Johnathon were incredible hosts, so kind and helpful throughout. The place is up a dirt path which was a little tricky to find at first, but Josie was very responsive and made sure we arrived safely, which we really appreciated. We left feeling completely refreshed and would absolutely love to come back again.

It was such a treat staying on the farm. Josie and Jon were super kind and welcoming and shared with us a great deal about their lifestyle (we were super curious). Our personal highlight was the outdoor shower with the view of Ometepe and volcano conception. If you’re looking for a very simplistic experience close to nature this is for you!

It was an amazing experience! We'll definitely be back. The views are stunning. We loved watching the sunset from our Airbnb and the stars in the evening. Our hosts were available, welcoming, and very attentive to the environment and the well-being of their guests. They also sell high-quality products, and we even had the chance to take part in the honey harvest! The kitchen is well-equipped; we didn’t want for anything! A big OMG! We are so grateful, thank you!

We had a lovely stay. Views and especially the shower are amazing!! Cool experience to be so remote and we saw many animals (including tarantula)! The road up is, as discribed, difficult so we preferred parking our moto and walked the last bit; this was no problem.
