The Space

Welcome to Art House at Montezuma Heights, a family-owned sanctuary with more than 25 years of history in the “Home of the sunrise and the endless skies.” Built through years of dedicated family effort, this home is a true labor of love.

Co-designed with architect Kata Jung, the house was created with ecological harmony in mind. All antique wood used for the floors, ceilings, doors, and windows was reclaimed, so not a single tree was cut to build the home.

Perched 100 meters (300 feet) above sea level, Art House offers panoramic ocean views, deep jungle surroundings, and fresh Pacific breezes. The home is designed for natural airflow, with ceiling fans provided instead of air conditioning.

The house also serves as a personal gallery, featuring a curated collection of works by renowned Costa Rican painter Enrique Hidalgo. Admire the intricate, hand-laid art tiles, or spend the evening stargazing from the spectacular roof terrace.

Layout

The home comfortably sleeps seven guests.

The pool is located directly in front of the house and is shared with guests staying in the Geco and Buho cabins. These separate cabins are located beside the house, so the pool may be a place for guests to interact.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the shared pool, roof terrace, and parking area. The third-floor roof terrace offers unforgettable views of the surrounding area and the night sky.

Only booked guests are permitted on the property for security reasons.

Important Details

• A four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended for the steep driveway.
• Please purchase all groceries before arrival.
• This is a quiet, nature-focused retreat and is not suitable for parties.
• Air conditioning is not available; fans are provided instead.
• Please shower before using the pool, and do not apply sunscreen immediately beforehand. Failure to follow these instructions may affect pool cleanliness.

Living with Nature

Art House is surrounded by Costa Rica’s natural environment. Please keep food inside the refrigerator whenever possible, as monkeys, ants, and other animals may be attracted to open food. So far, they have not learned how to open the refrigerator.

During parts of the rainy season, insects may appear. Keep doors and windows closed when the lights are on, and use the screens provided. Mosquitoes have generally not been as much of a problem here as in other parts of the country, but guests should remember that this is a home in the wild. The insects and animals were here first, so please respect the surrounding environment.

Adults and children enjoy having Luna, our dog, around. If a guest is uncomfortable with dogs, Luna can be kept in a large separate area away from the house.
