Wake to the sound of morning bird songs, open your eyes to the rising sun & sip Guatemalan coffee as you watch lanchas/boats drive by from the top deck.
Casa Valdres has welcomed guests from around the world since 2012 and has long been one of the lake’s most loved retreat vacation homes. Since becoming its new owners in 2022, we’ve thoughtfully refreshed the property while preserving everything that has made it such a special place for families, friends, retreats, and celebrations.
The space This is one of the most up-market properties around the lake. We've been hosting families, friends, wellness retreats and even weddings since 2012. Spacious rooms, amazing views of active volcanoes, and stunning grounds where you can pick bananas, avocados, limes, manderin oranges, papaya or ginger right off the plant. Incredible!
Guest access Adventure and relaxation are both within easy reach.
Begin your day on the calm morning waters with 2 paddleboards provided, wake to a cacophone of bird songs, spend your day poolside, swim in the lake, stroll along the shoreline, hike to the new scenic lookout, shop the Saturday Farmers Market, explore nearby villages, or spend the afternoon in a hammock swaying in the Xoxomil winds, while listening to your favorite tunes on the JBL connected via bluetooth.
The home is perfectly situated: ● 5-minute walk to the dock or 200 meters from the lake ● 10-minute walk to cafés, restaurants, and bars ● 15-20 minute boat ride to Panajachel
The unique charm of Santa Cruz is it is car free. Blissfully excape the noise of a large city, and drop into nature.
Other things to note The Rooms:
Each room is furnished with “European King” beds of locally sourced bamboo 3” bed toppers, comforters and a locally sourced Wool throw: quintessential to Guatemala, available for an extra layer of warmth at night. These are available to purchase in Panajachel, from a vendor on Calle Santander.
We have named each room after the elements, which we are surrounded by in the highlands of Guatemala. The 1st floor bedroom: Earth: has a private attached bathroom with a shower, the router for the lower level is found in this room. Easy access to the main living space, kitchen, pool, and deck.
The 2nd floor bedroom: Water; has a private attached bathroom with a shower, bidet, sliding french doors that open to the wrap around deck, and a walk-through closet. This also provides access to the private bodega Dominga uses to make up the rooms. The painting on the wall of this room is our local Xepoj dock, painted from a photograph, by Philippe, an artist from San Juan. He is a skilled artisan available to meet your request. His craft could take up to a week + depending on the request. And, it is a tremendous keepsake.
The 2nd floor bedrooms: Fire (front bedroom) & Wind (back bedroom), are a “Jack and Jill” style with a shared bathroom with a shower. These rooms have easy access to the wrap around deck, and filtered water purifier, sitting next to the TV.
The 3rd floor bedroom: Space, has a private attached bathroom with a shower, bidet, double sink, view of the lake from the shower, walk-in closet, sliding french doors that open to a private deck, with breathtaking views of the lake, local volcanoes, and an erupting volcano near Antigua, over the mountains to the left.
Water: The house has a whole house filtration system of reverse osmoses. It is safe to shower and swim. On the 2nd floor and in the kitchen, we’ve added an Auga Pura water dispenser for additional filtration of your drinking water.
The only way to arrive to Santa Cruz is by boat. If you arrive by car you can easily leave it parked in a secure car park in Panajachel called Kayucos Marino for approx 75Q / $10 a night. Current rates may vary.
If you want any meals cooked during your stay, our housekeeper is available to hire. Do ask and I will provide details for your consideration.
Provided for your enjoyment are 2 each: Stand Up Paddles, hammocks and yoga mats.

The house is spectacular, as shown in the photos. The beds are very comfortable, and everything is very spacious and clean. The gardens are spectacular and very well maintained. Dominga's service and her excellent meals. The pool is heated with solar panels and reaches a warm temperature, which is pleasant on hot days. The house is not right on the lake. You have to walk about 7 minutes on a path that includes steps, dirt road, flat sections and uphill sections. There is no view of the lake from the main floor, only a view of the gardens and the pool. You have to go up to the second and third floors to see the volcanoes and the lake. From the house, you can get to some restaurants overlooking the lake and the village of Santa Cruz. We enjoyed the house as it is very comfortable, and Dominga's service made all the difference.

We loved staying here. The home accommodated our family of 10 comfortably. From our flexible late check-in (car issues) to helping coordinate cooked meals and boat rides - PJ and Anastacio were a great help on our trip. Casa Valdres is a beautiful home and perfect for any family visiting the lake!

Awesome time with the family to unwind and embark on an adventure. Great place, great town. If you like tranquillity, you will love this home. Anastasio (groundskeeper) and Dominga (housekeeper and cook) were awesome. They were responsive, kind, and very helpful. Lake Atitlan is one of those scenic views that you can only truly embody when you are there. Views from the 3rd floor were awesome.

We had an amazing stay at Casa Valdres! The house is absolutely beautiful, spacious, and very well equipped with everything our family of 10 needed for a comfortable stay. We especially loved spending time in the pool, relaxing in the hammocks, and using the paddle boards—it made for an unforgettable experience. The only thing to keep in mind is that the house is about a 5–7 minute walk up a rocky walkway, It can be a bit challenging if you’re carrying heavy luggage, so packing lighter or making fewer trips would make arrival much easier. Once you reach the house, it’s completely worth it. The views are spectacular, the home is peaceful, and it truly feels like a private paradise. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Casa Valdres to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with family or friends.

Casa Valdres is truly a paradise in Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful, private, peaceful home that allows you to escape modern day life and enjoy the sounds of nature in it's true essence. The home is located in Santa Cruz, which is a smaller town on the lake, if you are looking for a quiet area this is the best option. The home is a 7 minute walk from the private port, which can be hard to do if you have a lot of luggage since it is a bit uphill and not paved. Anastacio, the groundkeeper, did help us with the luggage of 2 guests and the rest carried their own. Do keep this in mind as if you are a large group and have a lot of luggage. Dominga, the housekeeper, was delightful and we hired her for some meals which we all enjoyed and would highly recommend especially for dinner time. Although not impossible to find restaurants and small grocery stores it is recommended to stock up on some essentials in the main town of Panajachel such as snacks and any food you are planning on cooking.

Beautiful spot on lake atitlan in a peacefull village. We had a fantastic time, enjoyed the spacious house, garden, pool and easy access to the lake to visit the other villages. There are no shops so make sure to organize yourself well or ask help from the cook Minga.

We had an incredible stay at Casa Valdres. From the very beginning of booking , PJ and Stewart were very quick and proactive communicators and made us feel very confident with choosing this beautiful home for our stay. Anastacio was incredibly helpful with meeting us at the dock and helping with our luggage. Dominga cooked dinner for us twice and it was incredible both times - she is such a gem! Our friends got engaged on this trip and Dominga was kind enough to get us a cake and help make the celebration that much more special. Sitting out by the pool and listening to the birds was so wonderful and relaxing - we had the best time imaginable! Thank you for having us.
