Guest Access

Guests at Avara House enjoy full access to Hacienda Pinilla’s extensive amenities, including three white sand beaches:

• Playa Avellanas: Home to the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club and a famous two-mile stretch of surf.
• Playa Mansita: A flat-water lagoon ideal for snorkeling, fishing, and exploring tide pools at low tide. It is also home to the JW Marriott, where guests can enjoy hotel restaurants and bars.
• Playa Langosta: Surrounded by large trees reaching the shoreline, this beach offers a perfect setting for a relaxing day with palapas, ideal for picnics.

Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club

Located on Playa Avellanas’ white sand, the Beach Club features:

• Infinity-edge pool overlooking the waves of Little Hawaii
• Open-air restaurant and tiki bar
• Poolside sunbeds
• Gymnasium
• Soccer and volleyball courts

Entry fee is $5 per day for guests aged 10 and older. Note that the Beach Club closes annually in October for maintenance and upgrades.

JW Marriott Hotel

Hacienda Pinilla hosts the JW Marriott hotel, where guests have access to multiple dining options. A day pass can be purchased to use the hotel amenities, including the largest pool in Central America. Menus and details are available in the digital guidebook.

Golf Course

Designed by Mike Young, this par-72 golf course stretches up to 7,200 yards and integrates seamlessly with Hacienda Pinilla’s natural landscape. It winds through tropical forests along the Pacific coast, offering breathtaking ocean views.

Tennis Courts

Hacienda Pinilla offers three hard tennis courts with an onsite instructor. Tennis and pickleball clinics, lessons, and court rentals are available.

  • Monday 8:30–9:30 am: Fit-tennis (all levels), $15
  • Tuesday 5:00–6:30 pm: Advanced clinic, $20
  • Thursday 4:00–5:30 pm: Intermediate clinic, $20
  • Saturday 8:30–10:30 am: Pickleball clinic, $10

• Lessons:

  • $60/hour (single)
  • $70/hour (two persons)
  • $200/package (4 lessons)
  • $450/package (10 lessons)

• Court Rental:

  • $10–$15 per hour
  • $25 per hour with lights

• Equipment Rental:

  • $5 per racquet or paddle
  • $5 per person for pickleball sessions

Horse Stables

Explore 16 kilometers of scenic trails through dry forest and along the white sands of Playa Langosta. Guided horseback tours are available anytime and can be tailored from 30 minutes to 2 hours, taking you through forest paths, secluded beaches, and river mouths within the ranch.

Mountain Bike Trails

• Professional trails: 30 kilometers throughout the ranch
• Amateur trails: 15 kilometers
  These trails are also excellent for hiking and exploring the 4,500-acre property.

Surfing

Hacienda Pinilla is an excellent base for surfing, with six waves along Playa Avellanas and private access to beach breaks at Playa Langosta. Nearby spots include Playa Negra reef breaks (10 minutes south) and Tamarindo’s river mouth and beach breaks (10 minutes north).

Avara House is situated within a private, gated community primarily inhabited by full-time residents and families. There is a strict noise policy in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. This property is not suitable for parties or large events. It is best suited for adult groups and families who respect the community rules and neighbors.
