The Space
Sunset House is a contemporary, thatched-roof villa set near the beach in Tamarindo. Designed by renowned San Diego architect Steve Adams, custom-built by Flor de Pacifico/Jeff Hutton, and decorated by Mu Design, the home combines traditional tropical style with contemporary design.
With five bedrooms and spacious indoor-outdoor living areas, the villa is both comfortable and practical for families. Beach views and lush natural surroundings create a memorable setting.
A housekeeper, caretaker, and property manager are available throughout your stay. The expansive terrace adjoining the main living area features sun loungers overlooking the beach and estuary. Steps lead down to a second terrace with a pool.
Spend the afternoon relaxing in the hammock or on the massage table, then prepare dinner on the barbecue while watching the Guanacaste sunset. An all-natural botanical insecticide is used throughout the outdoor spaces for comfortable evenings outside.
The central living area is an open-fronted, thatched-roof pavilion where Pacific breezes flow through the space. It includes:

- A counter that opens onto a terrace bar
Woven dining chairs, mid-century-inspired lounge seating, and squared-off sconces add a modern touch to the villa’s natural aesthetic.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Sunset House in Tamarindo! The view was hands down one of the best parts — absolutely beautiful and even better in person. The location was perfect too, close enough to town that everything was easy to get to while still feeling private and relaxing. We would definitely recommend renting a golf cart! We had so much fun riding around Tamarindo and it made getting into town super easy. The house staff was incredible and truly made our stay so special. Breakfast every morning was perfect, and we felt completely taken care of the entire trip. Everyone was so kind, attentive, and helpful, and it made the experience that much better. We could not have asked for a better place to stay in Tamarindo and would 100% recommend Sunset House to anyone visiting. We already miss the view, the staff, and the entire experience!

This place made the trip. We went on my bachelor party with the intention of having activities (surfing, ATVs, catamaran, swimming, etc), along with enough of a town to have great dinners and some fun nightlife options nearby. It had everything and more, we had the best weekend I could have imagined. Highly highly recommend setting up golf carts for the time there, was a huge help for quickly buzzing around town. Way more to do around there than anticipated! Ten stars.

We had a fantastic stay at the Sunset House in Tamarindo with our family of 11. The location was wonderful, offering beautiful views and easy access to the town and beach. The house itself was spacious, well-equipped, and perfect for a multi-generational family gathering. The only small downside was the steep driveway, which was a bit challenging for our older family members, and even that was easily overcome with a golf cart. Overall, though, it was a memorable vacation spot and we’d happily return!

Karina and the entire staff were amazing. Extremely helpful, attentive, proactive and kind. Karina was a pleasure to work with and the communication was stellar. The house itself is breathtaking and the pictures don’t do it justice. It’s a wonderful place for a large group to relax, cook, have fun, and use as a centralized point for getting out to do a ton of excursions and in town exploring. Highly, highly recommend!

Pictures definitely do not do this beautiful house justice. Amazing trip with friends and family. There was a total of 9 people with our two families, and the house had plenty of room for everyone. The staff was absoloutley wonderful! Karina went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. Karina’s recommendation to hire Chef Fabien for some private meals was excellent! Geovanna’s breakfast preparation, laundry services and cleaning were top tier. We were definitely spoiled for our 5 day stay and wanted to take her home with us. Mario was there for any services needed. Celia walking and securing the grounds each night gave me piece of mind with our kids in different rooms and gave us the relaxation needed. This experience and home went above and beyond my expectations. I wouldnt have changed one thing about our stay. It was a perfect location and home. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Costa Rica.

Incredible stay at a magical house that worked perfectly for two families with five children. Well stocked and staffed and Karina was incredibly helpful finding local tour guides and chefs to cook elegant private dinners. Five stars - will visit again

Karina and the entire staff were incredible from start to finish. Everything was taken care of and every detail covered. Breakfast each morning was delicious! We couldn’t have asked for a better trip. The best memories and best time was had by all thanks to Karina and the entire staff at the Sunset House.
