An 8-bedroom, 8-bathroom villa for 15 in Oaxaca City’s La Merced neighborhood, with a rooftop terrace, sunset mountain views, and chef-prepared Oaxacan dishes.
Location
Our house is in the La Merced neighborhood, a vibrant community represented by the Virgin of La Merced. Over the years, visiting this area has become a tradition among Oaxacan families in the city center. The neighborhood is known for its gastronomy and is home to some of the capital’s most emblematic Sunday dining rooms.
The Space
Estancia la Merced was created around the joy of sharing food, drinks, and good company. It is a place where family and friends can enjoy meaningful moments that become lasting memories. As Oaxacans, we take pleasure in welcoming each guest with heartfelt hospitality, offering a comfortable stay and authentic local gastronomy.
In the spiritual world, the number 8 represents infinity. Inspired by this symbolism, Estancia la Merced features eight rooms designed to provide rest and serve as a starting point for the many experiences that will enrich your journey. Taking part in the atmosphere of Oaxaca is undoubtedly a unique and memorable experience.
Guest Access
The house is situated between two of the main streets in Oaxaca’s historic center: Independencia and Morelos. Their routes make it easy to travel across the city from east to west and back, providing convenient access to central attractions and the city’s exits.
This location has facilitated travelers’ movement for 400 years. You can follow the same historic route, as Independencia Street once marked the end of the city’s longest street.
Additional Experiences
The Oaxacan sky invites you to relax with food and drinks, connect with nature, and watch clouds drift across its sapphire-blue expanse. Our terrace is an ideal setting for celebrations, offering views of traditional Oaxacan homes, the iridescent colors of sunset, and mountain peaks illuminated by the sun’s golden light.
One of our additional experiences is enjoying dishes prepared by the house chef, including the renowned tlayudas and their close relative, the memela. Cheese, beans, and tortillas come together to create flavorful dishes that pair perfectly with mezcal or a cocktail, completing an experience filled with the colors, flavors, and distinctive tastes of Oaxaca.

We had a wonderful stay! The home was exactly as described—very clean, well organized, and comfortable. The location was excellent and made it easy to walk to nearby restaurants, shops, and attractions. Communication with the host was outstanding from start to finish. They were incredibly friendly, responded promptly to every question, and made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the area.

This was by far our favorite Airbnb we have stayed at. It is more beautiful than the photos and we loved the open air concept. We walked to great restaurants, coffee shops, cathedral and shopping. The hosts were accommodating and incredibly responsive!!!

What a wonderful house in Oaxaca Centro! Walkable to so many shops and restaurants. We had a group of 10 people and everyone enjoyed it so much. It was perfect to have a bathroom with every room. Such a great house for a larger group of people. Everything was clean and decorated so nice . The rooftop was amazing!

This is a fantastic Airbnb that's so much better than the pictures! Lorena was a wonderful host, even accommodating an early check in. She cooked us breakfast one morning at a very reasonable price, which was a highlight of our trip! I did wonder about the layout of the place before I arrived. There are 7 rooms upstairs and one downstairs. The rooms are close to each other and still feel very private. There are plenty of places for a group to gather. Truly so wonderful for my group of 12. Would highly recommend!

This was the most beautiful place in Oaxaca! I used this for getting ready for my wedding day and it was stunning, even more beautiful in person than in the photos. They had snacks and some drinks when we arrived which my friends loved and the location was fantastic, easy to walk to Santo Domingo and to everything we needed. Couldn’t recommend enough!

This is a lovely and well-maintained place, close to the main activities but just removed enough to be quieter and still very easily walkable to the center. They have done an excellent job of maintaining the historical character of the architecture and artistry while making the facilities modern. We had a group of 13 over New Years and really enjoyed the combination of privacy for each bedroom with great common spaces. The rooftop is a gem, and the responsiveness of Lorena and the other property managers is exceptional. Of course, Oaxaca itself is a marvel. We loved staying here!

Lorena, was a very responsive hostess from the beginning to the end. I had so many questions for her and she responded accurately and quickly every time. The place was perfect for hosting my Ember and Earth Travel group. We had access to nearby restaurants and also was able to indulge in her host incredible breakfast to start our day. We felt at home and it allowed flexibility to relax between our very active days!

The house is very beautiful. The photos do not do it justice. We had a large group of friends celebrating a couple of birthdays, including my own. Lorena was very responsive and super helpful. Not only in getting to the home, but also recommending transportation, restaurants, and so forth. She was even willing to go out of her way to purchase passes for us to travel from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido. The home is located in the city center and an easy walk to the historical sites, restaurants, bars etc. Highly recommend this home for any large groups traveling together.
