House Rules and Property Information
- Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Please respect the neighbors and move indoors after 10:00 p.m.
- The pool is open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Please conserve water and turn off air conditioners when they are not in use.
- Do not leave food or garbage outside.
- Please do not feed the wildlife. Feeding wildlife is dangerous, illegal, and can cause animals to become dependent on humans.
Environmental Information
Costa Rica is known for its biodiversity, renewable energy, and beautiful landscapes. Please help protect the environment during your stay.
Water and Electricity Conservation
Guanacaste Province can experience droughts from December through April. The local water company may occasionally implement rolling shutoffs to conserve water and replenish groundwater supplies. The property has a dedicated backup holding tank for these situations, but guests are asked to use water responsibly.
Please:
- Turn off faucets while brushing your teeth or washing dishes.
- Reuse towels when possible.
- Avoid running the washing machine or dryer for a single item.
- Report leaks, dripping faucets, or running toilets immediately.
- Turn off air conditioners when they are not in use.
The split air conditioners cool rooms quickly when doors and windows are closed. They are not designed to run continuously and may malfunction if operated 24 hours a day.
Discounted stays of four weeks or more include a maximum of 800 kilowatt-hours of electricity, approximately US$185 at the current exchange rate of 455 colones to US$1. Any additional usage will be charged to the guest. This allowance is generally sufficient for considerate use of the air conditioners, oven, and dryer.
Toilets and Toilet Paper
Please do not flush toilet paper or any other items. Place toilet paper in the garbage bins provided in each bathroom. Due to the limited sewage infrastructure in many parts of Costa Rica, most properties use septic and gray-water treatment systems. The pipes are also narrower than those commonly found in North America and can clog easily.
Extra bin liners are available in the property.
Power and Internet
Although outages are less common than they were five years ago, the power or internet may occasionally go out. Please be patient while service is restored. If the power or internet remains unavailable for more than one hour while nearby properties have service, please contact us so we can help resolve the issue.
Insects and Wildlife
This is a tropical environment, so seeing a few ants indoors is normal. If you notice many ants inside, please let us know so we can provide ant traps. Ants may enter during droughts while searching for water. Outdoor ants play an important role in the environment, so please leave them undisturbed.
Raccoons and skunks may be present in the area and can tear apart outdoor garbage. Raccoons are generally not aggressive but are not afraid of humans. Skunks may spray if startled, so please keep your distance.
Cockroaches are present in Costa Rica, and on rare occasions, one may enter the property. This does not indicate that the property is dirty or infested. They may enter after construction or pest-control treatments, which take place three or four times a year. Costa Rican cockroaches are not like those commonly found in North America and are not social insects that live in groups. Cockroach spray is available in the property, or the insect can be removed manually.

We (me and my 18-year-old daughter) stayed 1 month with Marie-Josée and Sylvain. Friendly and available, they answered all my questions. Very nice place, well-equipped, safe, clean, quiet, within walking distance of everything so no need for a car. Quick response from Liane, the co-host on site. I would recommend this place for your vacation without hesitation. We'll go back for sure.
