Eco-friendly 1BR Forest View Suite on Isla de Ometepe offers tranquil jungle views, a private porch, and farm-fresh breakfast in a lush UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Make yourself comfortable in this eco-friendly suite designed for two, located on the first floor of the Jungle House on the slopes of the Maderas volcano on Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua. Enjoy the tranquility of the tropical forest surroundings along with amenities such as high-speed ceiling fans, a private shower, Wi-Fi, and an outdoor porch.
The Forest View Suite is part of Selvista Guesthouses, a collection of "barefoot luxury" jungle accommodations on Isla de Ometepe, a lush UNESCO Biosphere Reserve situated in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America. This suite offers a private and cozy lodging experience with direct access to the surrounding tropical forest and an organic permaculture farm.
The suite occupies the entire first floor, separate from the Luxury Suite with Volcano View located on the second and third floors of the Jungle House. Please contact us if you are interested in renting both suites together, which would include the entire house.
This space is the result of two years of hand-built construction by a local team using bamboo, wood, and stone sourced from the area. The main room features natural walls and flooring created by Casa de Tierra, an environmentally sustainable building project based in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. The ergonomic cob floor was mixed and molded by hand, finished with natural clay-based paint and linseed oil. The earthen walls are coated with natural lime paint.
The private bathroom is located 8 meters from the bedroom door and is constructed from coconut palms. It includes a well-maintained compost toilet, sink, and shower.
If you require more space, consider these options on the same property:
Guests have exclusive use of the entire first-floor suite and its bathroom, along with full access to the jungle/farm property and the open-air kitchen where breakfast is served. You are welcome to prepare your own meals in the kitchen, which is shared with three other guesthouses but used infrequently.
Breakfast is included and served daily from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. It features island coffee, tea from the garden, and a variety of farm-fresh foods prepared by a local cook.
Guests are invited to join a free guided tour of the 1-hectare (2.5-acre) property led by the local site manager. The tour includes visits to farm animals, tropical fruit trees, organic gardens, and demonstrations of sustainable living in the jungle.
During your stay, I am available via Airbnb messaging and occasionally on-site when not working on landscape projects abroad. The co-host lives on the property and can be contacted in English or Spanish through Airbnb or WhatsApp for assistance or recommendations.
The property is managed by a friendly team of Spanish-speaking staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Farm employees care for the plant nursery, gardens, fruit trees, and animals. Comprehensive information is provided through in-house materials and the website (theselvistaexperience) to help you enjoy your time on Ometepe. Using the Wi-Fi, you can arrange activities directly with English-speaking local providers, supporting small businesses and guides.
An "honesty bar" fridge in the open-air kitchen offers drinks and snacks for purchase at any time, even when staff are not present.
The farm is home to four friendly dogs, including Loki and Navi, who provide companionship and security around the clock. They are generally calm and enjoy being petted, though interaction is optional.
The property is a vibrant tropical forest teeming with diverse plant and animal life. Guests may encounter shy jungle creatures such as birds, butterflies, bees, monkeys, frogs, toads, spiders, and small bats. Occasionally, some animals may seek shelter indoors.
In line with our eco-friendly approach, we use natural remedies to manage wildlife, which we are happy to explain upon your arrival. None of these species pose any danger to humans; they are neither aggressive nor toxic.
The only venomous animal on the island is the coral snake, which is timid and rarely seen. Images are available upon request. These animals contribute to Ometepe’s status as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, celebrated for its natural beauty and biodiversity.
