Important Information
Construction Noise
The area is generally peaceful, although occasional construction noise from nearby properties may be heard during daytime hours. Evenings are typically quiet and serene. Rates reflect this possibility, and many guests spend the day exploring beaches, surfing, hiking, or enjoying other local activities.
Access and Stairs
The house is situated on a hillside and has a sloped parking area. An all-terrain vehicle or four-wheel-drive vehicle is strongly recommended. Stairs lead to the house, and there is an additional staircase inside, so guests should be comfortable navigating steps.
Families and Safety
Although the property is family-friendly, La Casa Corteza is an elevated, treehouse-style home with wraparound balconies and significant height above the ground. It is not recommended for toddlers, crawlers, or children who may be tempted to climb the railings.
Utilities in Costa Rica
As in many parts of Costa Rica, temporary power, water, or internet outages may occasionally occur. A large backup water tank, LED lanterns, and other essentials are provided to help minimize disruptions. Please note that water pressure is generally lower than many North American guests may be accustomed to.
Nature and Wildlife
Staying at La Casa Corteza means being immersed in Costa Rica’s remarkable biodiversity. Guests may encounter monkeys, geckos, crabs, tropical birds, butterflies, and other jungle wildlife. At night, moths are often drawn to the lights, while geckos help control insects. All beds are equipped with mosquito nets for added comfort.
Every effort will be made to ensure an enjoyable and memorable stay. However, refunds cannot be provided for weather, wildlife, utility outages, or construction activity beyond the host’s control.

We had such a great stay! Beautiful location and truly a treat to be in such a unique and well designed place. They were kind enough to give us plenty of local contacts for dirt bikes, fishing, transportation and food. We like how we weren’t in the thick of Santa Teresa but also close enough that it was convenient to get into town. We even got a surprise visit from monkeys!

An incredible house in a beautiful part of the world. The house's design and furnishing really fit in with the Mal Pais vibe. And Kyle, the property manager, went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed to feel like locals, not just tourists. A magical trip, my only regret is we didn't stay longer.

We absolutely loved staying here. The open layout of the house was amazing and made the entire space feel so inviting and connected to nature. Being surrounded by greenery was such a refreshing experience, and we even got to see some cute monkeys during our stay, which made it feel extra special and memorable. At night, you could hear little animals outside, but we always felt completely safe and comfortable in the home. It truly felt like a peaceful escape while still being well taken care of. The house manager was incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful. They were very responsive, helped us unlock a door quickly, and were so friendly throughout our stay. That level of care really made a difference. Overall, this place was beautiful, relaxing, and thoughtfully managed. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nature-filled getaway with great hospitality.

This house is truly breathtaking, especially the open-plan kitchen and living area, which offers a stunning, panoramic view of the ocean. The home is tastefully designed and well-equipped, and whenever we needed anything, Kyle was extremely responsive. He also shared some excellent restaurant recommendations around Santa Teresa, which we really appreciated!. this place has a rustic atmosphere and lovely feel for it. If you\re shivering in West London or Chicago in December, contact Judita and book NOW! Minor A/C snafu fixed within hours! Both Judita and Kyle super-responsive & friendly. Kyle is based locally and always available to come over. A great place. Than you Judita & Kyle! Micheal, Elena & Nadia
