Overview

Situated within a 4,500-acre private reserve on Guanacaste’s “Gold Coast,” Casa Kura places adventure and relaxation right at your doorstep.

The property overlooks the white sands and world-class surf breaks of Playa Avellanas, with access to a world-class beach club, spa, and wellness center. More than 20 miles of trails wind through the ranch and along ridgelines overlooking secluded beaches. An 18-hole golf course, including a memorable oceanfront 15th hole, is also located within the property.

The Space

Casa Kura is a 3,000-square-foot tropical-modern home with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Clean architectural lines, custom furnishings, and bright tropical colors bring the interiors to life.

Every indoor space is air-conditioned with an individual mini-split unit, allowing guests to customize the temperature throughout the home. Custom details include the large pivoting wooden front door, feature beds, wooden cabinetry, and dining table, all designed to carry the tropical aesthetic throughout the property.

Thirty feet of glass sliding doors open the main house to a private oasis centered around a refreshing pool. Beside the pool, a luxurious 365-square-foot thatched palm rancho provides the ultimate poolside retreat, complete with:

Mosquito Protection

The house is equipped with a MistAway mosquito-misting system. The system is programmed to automatically release a very fine mist of mild botanical insecticide through nozzles installed around the property.

With two or three brief misting cycles per day, mosquitoes and other bothersome insects are significantly reduced in the yard.

Guest Access

Guests of Casa Kura have access to the amenities of Hacienda Pinilla.

Beaches

Playa Avellanas

Playa Avellanas is home to the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club and the famous two-mile stretch of surf at Little Hawaii.

Playa Mansita

At low tide, Playa Mansita offers calm lagoon waters ideal for snorkeling, fishing, and exploring tide pools. The beach is also home to the JW Marriott, where guests can walk in from the beach and enjoy the hotel’s restaurants and bar.

For guests seeking calm water, Playa Mansita is especially enjoyable at low tide.

Playa Langosta

Large trees extend right up to the shoreline at Playa Langosta, creating an ideal setting for a full day at the beach. Bring a cooler and packed lunch, then relax beneath the beach palapas.

Beach Club

Casa Kura has a corporate membership that provides guests with access to the exclusive Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club.

Located directly on the white sands of Playa Avellanas, the beach club features an infinity-edge pool overlooking the waves of Little Hawaii. Additional amenities include:

The Beach Club closes annually in October for maintenance and upgrades.

JW Marriott Hotel

Hacienda Pinilla is home to the JW Marriott hotel. Guests of Casa Kura can access its numerous restaurants; menus and additional information are available in the digital guidebook.

Day passes may be purchased for access to the JW Marriott’s amenities and pool, which is the largest pool in Central America.

Golf Course

Designed by Mike Young, this par-72 course can play up to 7,200 yards. It follows Hacienda Pinilla’s natural landscape, winding through tropical forest and along the Pacific shoreline with a striking blue-water backdrop.

Tennis and Pickleball

Hacienda Pinilla has three hard-surface tennis courts and an on-site instructor. Tennis and pickleball clinics, private lessons, and court rentals are available.

• Tuesday, 5–6:30 p.m.: Advanced clinic — $20
• Thursday, 4–5:30 p.m.: Intermediate clinic — $20

Lessons

• $60 per hour
• $70 per hour for two people
• $200 for a package of four lessons
• $450 for a package of 10 lessons

Court Rentals and Equipment

• $10–$15 per hour
• $25 per hour with lights
• $5 per racquet or paddle
• $5 per person for a pickleball session

Horse Stables

Sixteen kilometers of scenic trails wind through the dry forest and lead to the white sands of Playa Langosta, offering a uniquely Costa Rican experience within Hacienda Pinilla.

Guided horseback tours are available at any time and can be customized for your group. Rides range from 30 minutes to two hours and travel through the forest, along secluded beaches, and past river mouths throughout the ranch.

Mountain Bike Trails

• Professional trails: 30 kilometers throughout the ranch
• Amateur trails: 15 kilometers

The trails are also suitable for hiking and exploring the property’s 4,500 acres.

Surfing

Hacienda Pinilla is an excellent base for a Costa Rica surf trip. Playa Avellanas has six waves, and private access to the beach breaks of Playa Langosta means you can enjoy a variety of surf spots without leaving the ranch.

For further exploration, the famous reef breaks of Playa Negra are just 10 minutes south, while the river-mouth and beach breaks of Tamarindo are 10 minutes north.

Rates and Occupancy

Rates are based on up to 10 guests. An additional fee applies for each guest beyond the 10th, up to the property’s maximum occupancy.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

• Cancellations made 60 days or more before check-in receive a 100% refund, less non-refundable payment-processing fees of approximately 5.8%.
• Cancellations made within 60 days of check-in are non-refundable.

Important House Rules

Casa Kura is located in a private, gated community with primarily full-time residents and families. To ensure that all guests and neighbors can enjoy the community, there is a strict no-noise policy outdoors between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This property is not suitable for parties or events. It is best suited to groups of adults and families who respect the neighbors and community rules.

Excessive noise, parties, or large events are not permitted. Guests who violate these rules may be asked to leave without a refund.
