Kinamira is comfortable & easy to access with beautiful decorations and European details. A quick drive to the beach and the hosts were fast to respond to everything we needed. The wine for purchase in the fridge was an amazing addition! I stayed with my mom so the open floor plan was ok for us, but because the walls do not go to the ceiling, there is very little privacy in the bathroom or bedroom. With only 1 AC in the bedroom, sleeping in the extra bed by the kitchen was pretty hot at night even with the multiple fans. The private plunge pool is shaded and therefore more like a cold plunge. There is also a shared pool on property but we didn’t have time to use it.

However, we’d like to clarify that our listing describes a semi-open bathroom—a feature typical of the tropical architecture of our cottages—as well as air conditioning in the master bedroom; natural ventilation allows you to enjoy the cool night air. As for the private pool, it is at ambient temperature, like the vast majority of pools in Costa Rica. Its location provides more shade at certain times of the day, which many travelers appreciate for cooling off in the tropical climate. (Its temperature ranges between 84.5 and 91 degrees Fahrenheit during the rainy season.)

We had such an amazing time here. Visited daily by iguanas, monkeys and all kinds of beautiful birds. The cottage is beautifully decorated and all we wanted to do was relax outside and by the communal pool, which we mostly had to ourselves. Great communicative host with lots of local tips and a useful guidebook.

Edit before review window closed: Over a week after we arrived home I received a near $200 payment request to replace pots and pans from Sophie which were already slightly damaged when we arrived. We did our usual best to clean everything up and leave it exactly as we found it, but all we did was cook using the pans. There weren't a lot of dining options considering there was no power or water the whole day before we left. Obviously not the fault of the hosts, which is why I never initially called it out in my review. Just be sure to document any minor damages and take pictures. I should’ve done the same. Disputing the charges but an unfortunate end to an otherwise lovely stay

Well, we are also sorry that this replacement request has tarnished the end of a stay that seemed to have gone very well. However, we would like to point out that the pots and pans were in good condition before your arrival and that the damage found upon your departure was significant and irreversible despite several attempts at cleaning. We can understand that you are disputing this request, so we have forwarded the photos and materials to Airbnb for a decision to be made based on the facts. We always do our best not to charge our guests for the slightest incident or wear and tear. But when recent equipment becomes unusable, we consider it normal to ask for it to be taken care of rather than systematically bearing the cost. However, we hope you enjoy your stay.

Our stay at Kinamira was an absolute dream! If it's available, don't hesitate to book. It's our second time visiting and it's hands down the best Airbnb experience we've had.

Sophie and Christina are amazing hosts, and her property perfectly blends Costa Rican nature with elegant simplicity. We loved relaxing in our private plunge pool and watching the local wildlife. It is a quick drive to Playa Grande, so a car is essential but well worth it. We cannot wait to visit again!

My spouse and I booked with Sophie for our anniversary trip and desperately needed some quiet time together. The lodge and room were both exactly as described and exceeded how peaceful I was expecting. Honestly it was hard to leave Kinamari because all I wanted to do is relax in the hammock or in our pool and listen to the birds and wildlife. Such respite!

As the other reviews all say - beautiful oasis within the forest but still accessible to so much in the area. A short drive off the pavement road gets you there. The space itself was so well done and super cute.

Something important to note - the actual suite/villa is not completely enclosed and therefore not entirely climate controlled. There’s mini split in the primary bedroom but much of this is lost to the open screens over the sliding glass door space near the ceiling. We were able to close the door and keep it in the room overnight but I imagine staying in the secondary bed would be uncomfortable. Only one other review commented on the AC situation and while there IS a/c in the unit, it’s definitely not quite as climate controlled because of the screens that are always open.

The power went out on our last night and so the fan and a/c altogether didn’t work which was a little rough.

Overall very nice but definitely nice to have the option to be completely climate controlled.

Thank you, Lindsay, for your feedback. We would like to clarify something regarding the air conditioning. The cottage was designed with natural ventilation for comfort and maintenance in a tropical country. For this reason, some openings protected by mosquito nets are an integral part of the accommodation's design. Air conditioning is installed in the master bedroom to provide a cool and comfortable space during the night, but it is not actually a fully airtight accommodation as can be found in some urban locations. Regarding the power outage, it was unfortunately a widespread outage in the area following heavy rains that damaged power lines. This situation was beyond our control and affected the entire neighborhood. We experienced it too. Pura Vida

Sophie was truly one of the best hosts we’ve had. From the moment we booked, she was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful with anything we needed. The cottage was beautiful, spotless, cozy, and had everything our family needed for a comfortable stay. You can really tell she cares about her guests and puts so much thought into making the experience special.

The location in Playa Grande was perfect!peaceful, relaxing, and close to everything we wanted to explore. She also gave us great recommendations and was always quick to respond.

We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend Sophie’s place to anyone visiting Playa Grande!

Our stay in the Kea villa far exceeded our expectations, which were already extremely high! The property is gorgeous and the family of monkeys right outside the villa during our stay was a highlight of our trip! Sophie put together so many thoughtful and insightful recommendations for local things to do, restaurants, groceries, etc., that were all incredible! Can’t recommend this place enough and would gladly stay again next time we’re in Playa Grande!

We loved our stay at Sophie’s place. The privacy was one of our favourite parts and make the place feel very special. Tucked away in the jungle, it felt peaceful and secluded while still being close to everything. We spent most of our time enjoying the indoor outdoor living space, watching the birds and wildlife go about their day.

The private plunge pool was perfect during the midday heat, and the location was amazing, only a 3 minute drive to the beach, restaurants, and grocery stores. The kitchen had everything we needed, the house was spotless, and the decor was beautiful and thoughtfully put together.

We would absolutely recommend staying here! This place felt like our own little hidden jungle sanctuary, stylish, peaceful, and impossible not to love. We will definitely be back.

This Airbnb is a gem! The space itself is beautiful, styled wonderfully, and incredibly clean from top to bottom. What really made our stay special, though, was the host. Sophie was super helpful and practically on standby the whole time, making sure we had everything we needed while still giving us our privacy. 10/10 would absolutely stay here again!

The place is heavenly. I would recommend staying here. We stayed longer than planned because we loved the place so much.

The place is very kid-friendly. Crib and highchair were available.

Sophie’s place was very beautifully decorated, clean, great amenities, private and quiet. Beds were comfortable and the outdoor area was a really cool use of space.

Personally we were not fond of the lack of AC due to the open concept layout. Some nights were quite hot and uncomfortable. Also, the space was clean aside from ants discovered in the kitchen, which made it was quite difficult to make food throughout our stay even with using the provided ant spray.

The AC has been installed in the property since the beginning, as stated in the listing. Since I haven't received any comments about it, I will check that it is working properly. The air conditioning is installed in the bedroom along with a ceiling fan, so this shouldn't cause any discomfort. We take care to regularly treat houses located in tropical areas surrounded by nature; it's possible to encounter some ants, but to my knowledge, not to the point of causing a problem in the kitchen.

If you want peaceful, tranquil, relaxation this is your place. Plenty of wildlife to enjoy and watch as you relax on the lanai with the plunge pool to cool off on hot days! Venture into Playa grande town close by for some delicious tacos at Taco star and take a boat mangrove tour all within minutes of the casita! Sophie was an amazing host that made sure to connect with us upon arrival! We felt very welcomed and in good hands with her hospitality. Small markets close by and food options!

Very nice place. We were lucky enough to have a large family of howler monkeys in our yard for 3 days. It was amazing to wake up to their bellowing and watch them! The place is in a good location, and everything has been well thought out.

We stayed for six days with our 10 month old baby and had a great time. I would highly recommend Kinamira to any nature lovers or families. This property feels like a private resort. The vibe is peaceful and natural but also luxurious. Everything was clean and beautiful and the property felt secure. The host is great.

We are birdwatchers and we absolutely loved seeing motmots, trogons, parakeets, woodpeckers, and many other birds from our deck. We also saw a large family of howler monkeys that lives in the area.

This location is a great home base for visiting various beaches in the area! Short drive to some great restaurants and the stores nearby.

We came near the end of the dry season and it got smoky on some days due to the small brush fires in the area. This is common throughout Guanacaste during this time of year, so keep that in mind if you have breathing issues and maybe come in a more wet season. For us it just felt like camping.

I would love to stay here again someday
