Ananda is an off-grid guest house providing upscale, sustainable accommodations. The property enjoys a prime location with expansive views of the active Concepcion volcano, Lake Nicaragua, and the surrounding lush valley. Despite its tranquil setting, it is only a six-minute walk from the town center.

A well-equipped shared kitchen is conveniently situated just outside your door, accompanied by an outdoor dining area and beautiful gardens for relaxation. The guest house is close to restaurants and hiking trails. Additional services include 24-hour security, breakfast service, and assistance with tours, rentals, and home deliveries.

The Space

Designed to offer maximum comfort and privacy, Ananda delivers a memorable, eco-friendly experience on the edge of the jungle. The backyard provides spectacular views, and hikes to Maderas Volcano start directly from the property.

Triple Suite Details

This suite accommodates up to three guests with one king-size bed and one single bed. It features:

• Spacious, elegantly decorated room with a king bed and single bed
• Ceiling fan and furniture crafted from local precious hardwoods
• Multiple large, screened, and secure windows for year-round cooling
• Large porch overlooking landscaped gardens, including a two-person hammock and seating area
• Private bathroom fully tiled with solar-heated rain shower, excellent lighting, dual-flush toilet, and large mirror
• Clothes rack and luggage storage
• Private entrance

Guests have access to unlimited filtered volcanic spring water and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi (note that, as with anywhere on the island, uninterrupted signal cannot be guaranteed).

Location

Situated near the village center of Balgue, the property balances proximity and tranquility. Within a 10-minute walk, guests can find excellent restaurants, some offering delivery services. The guest house assists with arranging tours, taxis, and scooter or motorbike rentals.

Sustainability and Facilities

Ananda is committed to sustainability, operating entirely on solar energy and employing eco-friendly systems including:

• Recycling of gray water
• Bio-digesters for black water processing
• Ambient LED lighting throughout the property
• Solar-heated hot water
• Organic farming on-site

The five-acre property cultivates organic bananas, plantains, ginger, turmeric, sweet potatoes, lemons, and moringa.

Important Information

• The final 650 meters to the property is a rough dirt road (the same road leading to Totoco Eco-lodge). High-clearance vehicles such as SUVs and off-road motorbikes are recommended. During the rainy season, this road may be impassable for standard sedans or scooters.
• There is no street lighting along this stretch, so bringing a flashlight is advised.
• The water used for drinking and bathing comes directly from Maderas volcano’s natural volcanic spring, known for its mineral-rich quality and health benefits.
• The shared kitchen includes a full-sized refrigerator, oven with a six-burner gas stove, cutlery, plates, and basic ingredients.
• The property maintains a 24-hour presence, including a night guard.
• Two large dogs, Alfie and Osa, live on-site. They are beloved pets who also provide nighttime security. A cat named Ninja is also part of the household.
• The entire property relies on solar power; therefore, air conditioning is not available. However, all rooms have industrial-strength ceiling fans and large screened windows to allow cool breezes.

• The solar energy system is sized to meet guest needs without rationing during the dry season (December to April). From May to November, during extended cloudy or rainy periods, guests may need to conserve energy by turning off ceiling fans when not in use. A generator is available to recharge batteries when necessary.

• Alfie and Osa, the resident dogs, are friendly but serve as nighttime guards. They bark at strangers but do not bite and gradually get accustomed to new guests. The cat Ninja also lives on the property.

About Ometepe

Ometepe Island is ideal for those who appreciate nature and natural surroundings. The island boasts diverse flora and fauna, waterfalls, black and white sand beaches, scenic hikes, ancient petroglyphs, wetlands, and a natural volcanic swimming pool.

However, guests who have a fear of spiders, insects, or other small creatures may find the island challenging. While the accommodations are comfortable and modern, the island’s biosphere status means it supports a rich variety of wildlife, including many insects.
