Ananda Guesthouse

Ananda is an off-grid guesthouse offering high-end, sustainable stays. The property enjoys sweeping views of Concepción Volcano, Lake Nicaragua, and the lush surrounding valley, while remaining only a six-minute walk from town.

The Space

This 30-square-meter king room offers:

• King-size bed
• Bedside tables made from precious local hardwood

The room’s standout feature is its impressive view of Concepción Volcano and Lake Nicaragua. It is considered quite spacious and upmarket by Ometepe standards.

The private bathroom is fully tiled and includes:

• Large rain shower with solar-heated water
• Oversized vanity and mirror
• Abundant natural light
• Volcano views from multiple vantage points

The room does not have a private porch, but guests can enjoy the large backyard with outdoor seating. The room also has access to the downstairs communal alfresco dining area and well-equipped shared kitchen, which is shared by three rooms.

Complimentary amenities include:

• Unlimited filtered volcanic spring water
• High-speed Wi-Fi

As with accommodations throughout Ometepe, uninterrupted Wi-Fi service cannot be guaranteed.

Breakfast

Breakfast is available for an additional cost of $6 per meal. It includes:

• Tea or organic island coffee
• Fresh juice of the day
• Seasonal fruit plate
• Hot dish, generally including eggs, gallo pinto, plantain, and homemade whole-wheat toast

Location

Ananda is located near the center of Balgue—close enough for convenience, but far enough to enjoy a peaceful setting.

Within a 10-minute walk, you will find:

• Scooter, dirt-bike, and bicycle rentals
• Other local services

Hikes into the Maderas cloud forest and volcano begin from the backyard.

Guest Access

In addition to their private room, guests have access to:

• Downstairs shared kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, oven, six-burner gas cooker, pots, pans, and utensils
• Communal alfresco dining area
• Gardens and surrounding property

During Your Stay

Each room includes a comprehensive manual with information about activities, tours, transportation, restaurants, and other local services. Some nearby restaurants deliver to the property, and their menus are available in the kitchen.

Our staff is available to assist guests:

• Adelayda, Keyla, and Lorena provide housekeeping from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Nolver is the general supervisor and main point of contact.
• The staff speaks only Spanish.
• A night guard is on duty daily.

For late check-ins, a staff member will provide the key and show you to your room. Nolver can be contacted by message.

Important Information

Access Road

The final 650 meters to the property follow a bumpy dirt road leading toward Totoco Eco-Lodge. Sport utility vehicles, high-clearance vehicles, and off-road motorcycles are recommended.

During the rainy season, particularly from June through November, standard sedans and scooters may not always be able to pass. If you are walking, please note that there is no public street lighting along this road. Bring a flashlight.

The property is approximately 700 meters up the rustic, rocky road to Totoco Eco-Lodge. All vehicles can reach us year-round, although four-wheel drive or higher clearance is recommended.

Solar Power

The entire property operates on solar energy. The system is sized to support normal energy use during the dry season, from December through April.

During the rainy season, from May through November, guests should conserve energy and switch off fans when they are not in use. On occasion, we may need to operate a generator to recharge the batteries.

Property and Security

• The property covers five acres and is still a work in progress, but it is exceptionally beautiful.
• Two medium-to-large dogs, Alpha and Osa, live on the property. They are part of the family and help provide security. They may bark when guests first arrive but do not bite.
• A cat named Ninja also lives on the property.
• Night guards are present daily.

Is Ometepe Right for You?

Ometepe is an excellent fit for guests who love nature and the outdoors. The island offers abundant flora and fauna, waterfalls, black- and white-sand beaches, scenic nature hikes, ancient petroglyphs, wetlands, and a natural volcanic swimming pool.

Although the accommodations at Ananda are comfortable and far from rustic, the island itself is a natural environment. As its biosphere status suggests, Ometepe has remarkable biodiversity and an abundance of insects. Guests with a strong fear of spiders, insects, or other small creatures may find the island less suitable.
