The Space

Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club

The Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club is situated directly on the shores of Playa Avellanas. It features an infinity-edge pool overlooking the famous surf break known as Little Hawaii. The Beach Club offers a variety of activities and amenities for all guests, including:

• Cocktails and fruit smoothies from the poolside Tiki Bar
• Comfortable sunbeds by the pool
• Access to world-class surfing at Playa Avellanas
• Ocean-view fitness center
• Wellness center with massage services

Please note the Beach Club closes annually in October. Guests of this property pay a $5 entry fee per day (applicable to ages 10 and up).

Beaches

Within the 4,500-acre ranch, there are three miles of coastline offering numerous spots to discover:

• Playa Mansita & Bonita: Home to the JW Marriott hotel, ideal for beachcombing and exploring tide pools at low tide.
• Playa Langosta: Known for world-class surfing, beach activities, and river fishing. This beach is considered a hidden gem of Hacienda Pinilla, featuring shaded palapas perfect for relaxing. It is just a short walk and river crossing from the lively areas of Playa Langosta and Tamarindo.
• Playa Avellanas: Location of the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club and six renowned surf breaks, including Little Hawaii, The Estero, Dead Tree, and Lolas.

JW Marriott Hotel

Hacienda Pinilla hosts the JW Marriott hotel, where guests have access to multiple dining options. A day pass can be purchased to use the hotel's pool—the largest in Central America—which also grants access to all hotel grounds and amenities. Availability of day passes is subject to hotel occupancy.

Horse Stables

The best way to explore the 4,500-acre ranch is on horseback. Tours are available anytime and can be tailored to your group’s preferences. Rides range from 30 minutes to 2 hours, taking you through forests and along secluded beaches within the ranch.

Mountain Bike Trails

Hacienda Pinilla offers over 45 kilometers of trails through the ranch, forest, and coastline. These routes provide scenic and challenging experiences suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experts, and are perfect for families and solo riders alike.

Surfing

Hacienda Pinilla is one of the premier surf destinations in Costa Rica. With six waves at Playa Avellanas and private access to the beach breaks at Playa Langosta, you can enjoy excellent surfing without leaving the ranch. For further exploration, Playa Negra’s famous reef breaks are just 10 minutes south, while the river mouth and beach breaks of Tamarindo are 10 minutes to the north.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club and its amenities, including the infinity pool, Tiki Bar, fitness center, and wellness services. Entry is $5 per day for guests aged 10 and older. The Beach Club closes annually in October.

• Airport and Transportation Support: Transfers from Liberia (LIR) or San José (SJO) airports, rental car delivery to the villa, and golf cart rental coordination.

• Rates accommodate up to 10 guests. Additional fees apply for each guest beyond the 10th, up to the maximum occupancy. Please include the total number of guests in your booking to receive an accurate quote.
• This home is located within a private, gated community primarily inhabited by full-time residents and families. A strict noise policy is enforced between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• The Sanctuary is not suitable for parties or large events. Guests planning to host noisy gatherings or events should consider other properties, as violations will result in immediate eviction without refund.
• This property is ideal for groups of adults and families who respect the community rules and neighbors.
