Wake up in Balgüe to cool breezes, expansive volcano views, and the gentle sounds of farm life. The Butterfly House is a cozy, solar-powered retreat on a hilltop, offering air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, and hammocks for relaxing afternoons.

Perched above the village, the house enjoys cooler temperatures, fewer insects, and a peaceful setting surrounded by tropical forest. It is well suited to nature lovers, families, and digital nomads seeking comfort, privacy, and an authentic Ometepe experience.

Bedrooms and Bathroom

• The master bedroom includes air conditioning, one queen bed, and one full bed, making it suitable for couples or families.
• The second bedroom has bunk beds and fans, making it ideal for children or additional guests.
• The bathroom includes an indoor shower with volcano views.
• A refreshing outdoor shower is available under the open sky.

Kitchen and Outdoor Living

The fully equipped kitchen overlooks the garden. Outside, you can watch goats, donkeys, and chickens grazing just beyond the porch.

Depending on the season, pick fresh mangoes, bananas, avocados, and other tropical fruits from the garden. Relax in the hammocks with a cup of coffee while butterflies and hummingbirds visit the flowers.

Nearby, you can explore hiking trails, kayaking spots, and cafés in Balgüe.

If The Butterfly House is booked, ask about Vista View, which is located on the same property. We also have two lake-access houses down the road from the farm: Heron House and Kingfisher House.

Animal lovers are welcome to give our dogs and cats plenty of affection. Abrazo, our large orange cat, especially enjoys being picked up.

Guest Access

The listed price includes two adults. Additional friends and family members may stay for an extra fee of USD 15 per person per night.

There is plenty to do on the farm:

• Walk with our farmhand to collect eggs for breakfast from the free-range hens.
• Try milking the goats.
• Enjoy organic tropical fruits and vegetables from the garden, depending on the season.

Meet the friendly Nicaraguans who care for the farm and help make your visit memorable. The spacious balcony offers sweeping views of Lake Nicaragua and both volcanoes, while a nearly constant breeze helps keep insects away.

You may wake to the sounds of monkeys, parrots, goats, and the occasional rooster.

Sustainability

The home runs entirely on solar power. Our sustainable practices include:

• Recycling and reusing materials.
• Composting.
• Using natural pest sprays made from garlic, onion, and chile peppers.
