The Space

The Butterfly House is a cozy, solar-powered hilltop retreat featuring air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, and hammocks perfect for relaxing afternoons. Situated above the village, it benefits from cooler temperatures, fewer insects, and a tranquil setting surrounded by nature.
Inside, the home offers comfort and charm. The master bedroom includes air conditioning, a queen bed, and a full bed, ideal for couples or families. A second bedroom with bunk beds and fans is suitable for children or additional guests. The fully equipped kitchen overlooks the garden, while the bathroom provides both an indoor shower with volcano views and an outdoor shower under the open sky.
Outside, life slows down. Observe goats, donkeys, and chickens grazing just beyond the porch. In season, pick fresh mangoes, bananas, or avocados. Relax in hammocks, enjoy coffee as butterflies and hummingbirds visit the flowers, or explore nearby hiking trails, kayaking spots, and cafés in Balgüe.
If the Butterfly House is booked, inquire about the Vista View on the same property. Additionally, two lake-access houses—Heron House and Kingfisher House—are available down the road from the farm.
Animal lovers will appreciate our friendly dogs and cats. Abrazo, the big orange cat, especially enjoys being picked up.
Guest Access
The listed price includes accommodation for two adults. Children under 10 years old are included in the base price. Guests renting the house have access to the entire property, with extra space available for friends and family at an additional cost of USD $10 per person per night.
There are many activities on the farm. You can accompany our farmhand to collect eggs from free-range hens for breakfast, try milking our goat, and even make cheese, which is delicious. Our garden is fully organic and abundant with tropical fruits and vegetables for you to enjoy.

Awesome stay! The farm is beautiful, and there are beautiful butterflies everywhere. Special shoutout to all the geckos around the house - there were very few bugs to deal with thanks to those guys :)

AMAZING stay at the butterfly house! The property was beautiful, easy to find, and secluded. We felt safe and comfortable the entire stay. Safe drinking water was provided which was an excellent surprise. Dogs and cats around were always a plus :) would absolutely stay here again and I would recommend it to anyone who asks

One of the best Airbnbs we have ever stayed in! Incredibly tranquil and serene place tucked away but close to Balgue. Breakfast was great and the staff were very accommodating.

As others have said - this is truly a unique place and is really wonderful. We brought our young kids with us and they loved it here as well. From walking the farm and seeing the animals to the monkeys hanging out in the trees in the morning, it doesn't get any better. very peaceful.

Our family had a fabulous stay at Finca Ometepe. The house was perfect for our exploration of the island, and it was a clean and comfortable place to relax. The kids loved all the animals and greatly enjoyed milking the goats. Highly recommend!

This is the kind of place that feeds the soul. Perfect place to lay low and experience nature. It’s close to a lot of the backpacker attractions in Balgue but feels removed. The sounds of the animals in the mornings and the visits from all the doggos were our favorite parts. Would certainly return.

Very peaceful and beautiful property with wonderful staff working at the farm. The rooms were clean, well-outfitted and the AC was strong. We had a very comfortable stay and would recommend to anyone.

We had a wonderful stay at Finca Ometepe! It's set about about 1km from the main road, but very close to a number of things to do. You'll want a motorcycle or ATV. The grounds of the property are stunning. You're surrounded by beautiful gardens. Josh was very helpful with anything we needed. We were able to milk goats in the morning, and had a delicious breakfast on our patio.

I would highly recommend staying at finca Ometepe! The hosts were always quick to respond and made sure we had everything we needed. They gave us great recommendations and a contact for getting rides to/from the port and ATVs dropped off to us. This place was everything and more. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and appreciated the farmhands teaching us how to milk goats and giving us a long tour. And we even got to hold baby goats! We really fell in love with this place and will certainly return.
