Welcome to Las Amapolas
Las Amapolas offers spectacular views of the Belize Barrier Reef. This beachfront casita sits among swaying coconut palms on the sandy shores of Ambergris Caye. Once part of a coconut grove, the property is now a peaceful tropical retreat approximately 30 minutes from town by golf cart and a short ride from Secret Beach.
Two units are available: 1A and 1B.
The Space
The 350-square-foot casita combines simplicity, nature, and comfort in a relaxed beach-inspired setting. Features include:

- Small kitchenette for refrigerating and reheating food
Las Amapolas is Gold Standard Certified by the Belize Tourism Board, helping ensure a safe and comfortable stay that meets national hospitality standards.
Guest Access
The beautiful white-sand beach is only a few steps from the casita, providing guests with direct beach access.
Arrival and During Your Stay
Upon arriving in San Pedro Town, our team will personally welcome you at your point of disembarkation. We will then escort you to our town office, where you will complete a brief accommodation form and receive your keys.
You will also receive detailed directions and local tips to help you reach Las Amapolas and make the most of your time on the island.
Renting a golf cart is highly recommended as the most comfortable and enjoyable way to explore San Pedro and experience the island. Taxis are also readily available, although Las Amapolas is approximately 4.5 miles from town.
We will help ensure that your arrival and transfer are smooth, allowing you to begin your stay comfortably and with peace of mind.
Sargassum Information
Sargassum season in Belize typically runs from March through August, with peak activity between mid-June and the end of August. Ambergris Caye does experience some sargassum, although the area around Las Amapolas is generally mild compared with other parts of the island.
Sargassum may occasionally produce an unpleasant odor, but this is a temporary and natural occurrence caused by seasonal ocean currents and weather patterns.
Secret Beach is approximately a 15-minute golf cart ride away and is known for being free of sargassum year-round. Located on the west side of the island, it features:
- Calm, crystal-clear water
- Excellent swimming conditions
- Several beach bars
- A lively and enjoyable atmosphere
At Las Amapolas, you can relax and enjoy the beach views from your casita. For swimming, we recommend visiting Secret Beach.
Power Outages
Power interruptions can occasionally occur on Ambergris Caye. We do our best to keep guests comfortable during these periods.
- Water remains available even when the power is out.
- Belize Electricity Limited, the island’s electricity provider, typically restores power within a few hours.
Life by the Sea
Because the casita is only steps from the sea, salt air is part of everyday life. Although we carefully maintain and clean the unit, some metal items may show natural signs of coastal wear. This is common in true beachfront homes and contributes to their authentic character.

Trash Disposal
A blue barrel is located in the backyard for trash disposal when needed.
Mosquitoes
Mosquito activity is seasonal and more common after rain. Peak activity usually occurs around 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Mosquito coils and citronella are provided in the room for your comfort.
Tours and Rentals
For fishing, snorkeling, picnics, golf cart rentals, or general island information, please contact the Property Manager.
Grocery Stores
Caribeña North Gas Station
The newly opened Caribeña North Gas Station is approximately a seven-minute golf cart ride south of the casita. It is located at the entrance to the road leading to Secret Beach and offers:
- Sodas
- Beer
- Wine
- Liquor
- Ice
- Snacks
Opening hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Palm Supermarket
Palm Supermarket is approximately a 12-minute drive south along the main road. It is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and carries most essential items.

Nearby dining options include:
- Hidden Treasures — a two-minute walk south along the beach
- Mambo Restaurant at Matachica Resort — a three-minute walk north
Approximately five minutes north by golf cart, you will find:

Secret Beach
Secret Beach is approximately a 15-minute drive away and is considered one of the island’s most beautiful beaches. The water is knee-deep and crystal clear, and the beach is free of sargassum year-round.
Options include:
- Mystical at the south end for a quieter atmosphere
- Harvest Café Beach Club for a beach-club experience; a day-use fee applies
- Several lively bars along the main strip for music and entertainment

We had a great stay! The place was exactly as described—very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Everything we needed was available, and the host made the experience smooth and easy. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Airbnb. 30 mins from town, so just be aware of the drive!

My wife and I stayed at this property for 3 nights in June '26 and a fantastic stay. Check-in was smooth and the property is in a great location, just a few minutes past the main road heading to Secret Beach and a pretty easy 25-30min ride to the center of town. The unit itself was very comfortable and everything we needed for a short stay. We also booked a snorkeling excursion with Captain Thomas, who was recommended by Nellie as his boat is docked at the property. We had an incredible time on the excursion and would highly recommend booking with him if you're looking for snorkeling/fishing/etc. Overall, we had an amazing time here and would 1000% return. Only note is we did lose power briefly a few times (which is common to San Pedro), so not specific to this property but would recommend bringing mobile power banks on your trip to charge phones, etc.

The place was quiet, clean, and in a beautiful area. Note that it’s about 30 minutes from town — we weren’t aware of that at first and ended up driving back and forth since most of our activities were there.

Very nice place with beautiful ocean views. Lots of sargassum on the beach during the end of March but we knew to expect that in advance. Expect a bumpy ride in if you rent a golf cart (best way to get around here). Overall, I would recommend staying here

Really enjoyed nellie’s casita! The room is actually bigger than pictured and the balcony really adds to the space. Very clean upon arrival and a broom was provided for sand that gets tracked into the property Didn’t see any bugs in the room itself which was great! there are a lot of lizards outside at night but as expected with a tropical location. The air bnb is about 30 mins away from the town and a lot closer( about 20-15 mins) to secret beach which was super convenient the ride into town isn’t bad at all and really gives you a chance to see the island. Both host are amazing and responsive they were able to help with a few issues we had like locking ourselves out, and switch arrival time really quickly and they truly want you to enjoy your trip. Will definitely be booking again, perfect for couples and my girlfriend really enjoyed her birthday here. ( they would definitely benefit from getting a tv in the room but not a complaint because the property itself is very entertaining)

Nellie’s condo at Las Amapolas was perfect for my husband and I for the last few days of our vacation. The location right on the beach on is unbeatable and the property was very well maintained. The space was surprisingly well equipped even though the kitchenette was small. Very friendly and helpful team of hosts.
