The Space

Ananda is a unique, sustainable, off-grid guest house located on the foothills of a dormant volcano within a Biosphere cloud forest reserve. Surrounded by nature, the property is still only a 10-minute walk from excellent restaurants.

This spacious 50-square-meter suite overlooks the active Concepción Volcano and Lake Nicaragua. It features in-room Wi-Fi, an en-suite bathroom with a solar-heated rain shower, and a covered private porch with a dining area and hammock. The suite also connects internally to the well-equipped shared kitchen.

Designed to maximize comfort and privacy, Ananda offers a sustainable and memorable experience on the edge of the jungle. The property has spectacular views, and hikes to Maderas Volcano depart directly from the grounds.

Concepción King Suite

The Concepción King Suite accommodates up to two guests and includes 50 square meters of private space:

Location

The property is close to the center of Balgue without being directly in the village. Several excellent restaurants are within a 10-minute walk, and some offer delivery to the property.

Assistance is available with arranging tours, taxis, and scooter or motorbike rentals.

Sustainability

Ananda is designed to operate with minimal environmental impact and uses:

• 100% solar energy
• Gray-water recycling
• Biodigesters for processing black water
• Ambient LED lighting throughout the property
• Solar-heated water
• Organic farming

The property spans five acres, where organic bananas, plantains, ginger, turmeric, sweet potatoes, lemons, and moringa are grown.

Guest Access

The two guest rooms share a well-equipped kitchen with:

• Full-size refrigerator
• Oven with a six-burner gas cooker
• Pots, pans, and utensils
• Cutlery and plates
• Basic ingredients

Guests also have access to the communal dining area and gardens.

Important Information

The final 650 meters to the property follow a bumpy dirt road, also used to reach Totoco Eco-Lodge. Sport utility vehicles, high-clearance vehicles, and off-road motorbikes are strongly recommended. During the rainy season, the road may not be passable for standard sedans or scooters.

There is no street lighting along this road, so please bring a flashlight.

The water used for drinking and bathing comes directly from Maderas Volcano. This natural volcanic spring water is mineral-rich and provided to guests in filtered form.

The property has a 24-hour presence, including a night guard.

Because the entire property operates on solar energy, air conditioning is not available. All rooms and suites have industrial-strength ceiling fans and large screened windows to encourage cool breezes and natural ventilation.

During the dry season, from December through April, the solar system is generally sufficient without requiring guests to ration their energy use. During the rainy season, from May through November, guests should switch off unnecessary lights and fans. On occasion, the generator may need to be used to recharge the batteries.

Pets and Security

The property has two beloved dogs, Alpha and Osa, as well as a cat named Ninja. The dogs are part of the family and also provide nighttime security. They may bark at strangers but do not bite.

During Your Stay

A comprehensive manual is provided in each room with information about activities, tours, transportation, restaurants, and other local services. Some nearby restaurants also deliver to the property.

Staff members are available to assist guests:

• Adelayda, Keyla, and Lorena provide housekeeping from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Nolver is the main point of contact from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., except Sundays, and can be reached by phone message.
• Don Osman, known as “El Bronco,” serves as the night guard from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily.

The staff speak only Spanish, but English messages can also be sent to Nolver. For late check-ins, a staff member will provide the key and show you to your room.

For additional questions, it is best to send a message through the Airbnb platform between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Responses will be provided as quickly as possible.

Is Ometepe Right for You?

Ometepe is an excellent destination for guests who enjoy nature and natural surroundings. The island offers abundant flora and fauna, waterfalls, black- and white-sand beaches, scenic nature hikes, ancient petroglyphs, wetlands, and a natural volcanic swimming pool.

Although the accommodations are comfortable and far from rustic, the island itself remains very natural. Its Biosphere status reflects its exceptional biodiversity, which includes a wide variety of insects. Guests with a strong fear of spiders, insects, or other small creatures may find that Ometepe is not the ideal destination for them.
