Ocean views, a spacious pool, and lush gardens define this 4BR villa near San José on the Nicoya Peninsula. Sleeps 9 with four bathrooms, fiber optic internet, and easy access to Malpais surf and nature.
The Space
Casa Rica is a beautiful ocean view villa featuring a spacious outdoor pool area and lush gardens. Situated on the southern Nicoya Peninsula in Malpais—one of the world's Blue Zones—it is just a short drive from the renowned surf destination of Santa Teresa to the north and the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve to the south.
The villa offers four bedrooms and four bathrooms, along with a large pool and stunning ocean views. A 4x4 vehicle is required to access the property.
Casa Rica is ideal for two families or a small group of friends visiting Costa Rica to unwind while being immersed in nature, local wildlife, tranquility, and, of course, surfing. The villa includes a large living room with an open-plan kitchen and dining area, all overlooking the garden and ocean.
The four comfortable bedrooms are as follows:
- Master bedroom: king-size bed with an ensuite bathroom featuring both a shower and bathtub.
- Second master bedroom: queen-size bed with an optional single bed, plus an outdoor bathroom with a shower and bathtub. This bathroom offers a peaceful setting to relax while listening to the jungle and enjoying ocean views.
- Guest bedroom: queen-size bed with an ensuite bathroom including a shower.
- Guest bedroom: two queen-size beds with a separate bathroom containing a shower.
Location and Access
To reach Casa Rica, a 4x4 vehicle is necessary. During the dry season, an ATV or Rhino may also be suitable.
Amenities
- Fiber optic internet connection
- Security system with cameras and alarms
Wildlife and Environment
Guests can expect to see wildlife in its natural surroundings. Howler and white-faced monkeys frequently pass through the nearby trees, along with iguanas and raccoons. Being in a tropical environment, harmless insects such as ants, cockroaches, and geckos may be present, especially during the rainy season. This is typical of the area and does not reflect on cleanliness.
Additional Notes
- Power outages are common in Santa Teresa and may occur during your stay; this is a normal aspect of the local infrastructure.
- The region experiences high humidity, averaging 74% annually, with peaks up to 87% in October and lows around 71% in February. This can cause clothes to take longer to dry, particularly during the rainy season.

The house is beautiful and very well located, but our stay was spoiled by several issues. The main issue: significant water damage due to a pipe completely clogged with leaves, soil and debris. We had to remove these items ourselves to prevent the accommodation and our belongings from being completely flooded. We also noticed that the outdoor furniture was already damaged, and gardeners came without notifying us. The worst part is the bad faith of the hosts. We wanted to settle everything amicably, but they questioned our version and made us look like liars despite the evidence and their own contradictory messages. This situation caused us to lose a lot of time during our vacation. Fortunately, Airbnb reviewed the evidence and ruled in our favor with a full night's refund. It's a shame, because the house is superb, but the hosts' attitude was very disappointing.

This is a truly stunning home - the architecture, interior design, and the space! It is even more spectacular than the photos portray. Communication with Fiona was super easy! We had some trouble finding the property, but Fiona was quick to respond and provide help. Having a 4x4 is a must and try your best to check in during daylight hours. The drive to the home is well worth it when you see the ocean views! The home was well stocked with everything we needed. The pool is refreshing and was lovely to cool off. We saw monkeys one morning in the trees on the property. It was really special! The location is incredible! It's about a 5-10 minute drive to markets, restaurants, and shops. The beaches are absolutely incredible! We really enjoyed Playa Santa Teresa. Dining at Eat Street, Ani's, and Mantarraya Cafe were favorites! We hope to be back in the future and would love the opportunity to stay at this vacation rental again! Highly recommend!

Very private beautiful place to stay!!!! Paradise and ocean view! We will be coming back again next year! Photos are 100% accurate. The place was very clean and they help with whatever you need. We rented an atv and she had it delivered to the house and it was there when we arrived. She also scheduled our private shuttle to and from airport in Liberia. Well worth the fee. I would bring cash for the private shuttle. Also take a screenshot of your WiFi password off the site for the villa so you can get the door code once you’re there just in case. Thanks to all that made our trip wonderful!!!!! It was a great honeymoon!!!!!

Great villa located amongst the jungle but still very close to the beach with stunning views. good communication from host and fiona was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. the front gate didn’t close entirely and could have been more secure but we had no issues during our stay. Some sort of blinds for the kitchen/living room windows would have been great for the dark evenings but regardless of this the stay was enjoyable! I would recommend this villa!

We eloped to Mal Pais with close family and this was an amazing house for it! SO beautiful with the most AMAZING views. The photos are exactly as described and concierge was very responsive. The instructions were very helpful to get to the house, but definitely recommend a 4x4 car and UTV/ATV once you get there. They weren’t kidding about the bugs, expect large ones. ;)

If you're looking for an unforgettable escape, this is it. The entire property feels incredibly private, tucked away on a hillside with the most breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the ocean. My absolute favorite part was waking up and having coffee on that stunning wooden deck. You can see in how it has a shaded lounge area, which was the perfect spot for relaxing and just watching the waves. They also have a dedicated yoga space, complete with mats and a bar counter, which felt like such a luxury. The pool area below the deck was our constant go-to in the heat, offering a refreshing dip with that same incredible backdrop. The surrounding jungle felt so vibrant and alive. The overall vibe of the place is pure tranquillity and luxury. If you’re a nature lover who still wants comfort, you cannot beat this spot.
