Great place! You won’t regret staying here.

A truly beautiful place to stay in Oaxaca. Just far enough from the center of town to be out of the bustle when you don’t want it and just close enough that it’s a trivial walk to the center when you do want it! Beautifully designed and decorated house with lovely private baths for each gorgeous bedroom in addition to two bathrooms down at the kitchen and pool levels below. The domed brick ceilings are particularly gorgeous. Friendly and helpful host and staff! You’d have to go way out of your way to find anything to complain about. We had a party of 12 for 5 days and we couldn’t have been happier with the space.

A special place with the flavor of Oaxaca

This place is incredible! Stayed here with a group and the setup is peefect for private space and a number of communal gathering places, we used them all. The views are 10/10. We walked to / from El Centro and nearby daily. One route is steep but can also take other walking routes that are less steep and the host also left taxi number on dining table so very easy to get to and from. We needed 3 taxis for dinner one night and used recommended taxi info which I would recommend. Great coffee, food, and shops nearby as well.

We recently stayed at El Comalito for a week and loved it! We were a party of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids). There was tons of space for privacy. the pool is a huge plus and not common for rentals. The staff that was around was very helpful and discreet. The space felt like a very private oasis. The walk to Centro was very easy. there are some excellent restaurants close by. it is hilly and there are a lot of stairs in the house, so be prepared. Communication was excellent. We would definitely come back!

What a wonderful experience! The photos really do not do this place justice. The location is also perfect - basically a 10-20 minute walk to everything in Centro and you get amazing views being perched up on the hill. If the description and photos are doing it for you, it will blow your mind in person. Diego was on site often and extremely helpful/easy to communicate with also. My only complaint is that none of the trash cans in room were changed during the four nights we were there. This was especially annoying given you can't flush toilet paper. But, the overall experience was absolutely five stars and I'd stay here again for certain.

What an amazing experience! We thoroughly enjoyed Anastacia's space. We immediately felt right at home. It was so thoughtfully put together and comfortable. We had a private chef come in to make dinner, which the space was perfect for. We would highly suggest staying here.

Host Response

Thank you all and welcome back soon

The place was great for our family of seven people. We appreciated the full kitchen with plenty of stocked items. The common space for dining/living was great for gathering and playing games. We loved the views and other upper level terraces/balconies and pool area for occasional lounging. The location is up a hill from town but walkable in both directions and actually a pleasant walk thru the neighborhoods. For a large group this is a lovely place to stay and feels very much like a welcoming Oaxacan home.

The accommodations were fantastic. So much space, and amazing views from the patio and several of the rooms. It’s great that every room has its own bathroom. Anastacia was responsive and friendly. The description said that the pool was heated but it was actually pretty cold. When the sun was shining on the pool area it was very refreshing but if it was cloudy or shady it was too cold to stay in it. The common area was huge and comfortable and the kitchen was great. The staff that assists Anastacia were all extremely friendly and welcoming. The description on line also advertised a music studio, and since our group was made up of musicians, that was the reason we picked this rental, but, in the end, the studio was not available for us to use. This did not turn out to be a negative for us. We still felt that the rental was priced fairly for all the amazing space you have.

Incredible place for a truly magical stay! Stayed here for 3 nights with a group of 10. Each of us couples or individuals had our own rooms with attached bathrooms. It was like having our own private hotel with at a lovely well-designed resort. We enjoyed cooling off in the pool and made use of the living spaces on the main level and the top level with unmatched views of the city. Highly recommend this place for a group traveling together! Lots of memories made here.

We absolutely loved our stay here! I can’t say enough about this home. It’s so expansive, GORGEOUS, incredible views, incredible pool, the little details, cozy, private, and is just like the listing. I would return to this spot yearly if I could - it was perfect for my family and for our friends who came with us as well. There are incredible restaurants right on this street within 2 min walk (Muró, Humito…) and it’s so walkable to the center of Oaxaca. We were so happy here and with the staff!

Wonderful in every way! This house is immense—even bigger and more impressive than the pictures, with stunning views in every direction. There was more than enough space for our party of 12; we felt like we had our own boutique hotel. All the bedrooms are spacious and beautifully designed. Location is perfect—far enough from the Centro to be quiet and relaxed but walkable to everything. Anastacia was a responsive host and the staff were friendly and endlessly helpful. We loved relaxing by the pool and enjoying the views of the city, especially at night. A truly magical experience.

This Airbnb was beautifully designed, featuring many comfortable rooms and spectacular views from the decks and balconies. Someone in our group was almost always hanging out at the pool or the top kitchen suite, enjoying the views and water. Anastacia's team is very responsive and accommodating, and kindly supported our request for an early check-in. However, we were unaware that staff would regularly be on-site all weekdays and coming in on some late evenings for things related to the restaurant next door, somewhat infringing upon the privacy we'd hoped for. We also experienced a minor water issue during the first two days, but that was resolved after it was raised.

This place is absolutely magical and a fantastic spot to stay in Oaxaca with a big group! The kitchen is well equipped and the generous host even let us use the comals for a private cooking class. In the main entrance of the home, there is an office space that is open Monday-Friday where 5-6 people come and go. They also use the laundry room in the entryway. It is great to have property maintenance folks there when you need to refill water jugs, toilet paper, get a cab, or have questions about the property! A good thing to note :) The water in the showers can sometimes shut off or be low in pressure depending on how much is used. This is to be expected with such a large house in Oaxaca, with water being a more limited resource. We LOVED our stay and hope to come back soon! 💗💗💗

A soulful home with INCREDIBLE views, very comfortable furniture and wonderful amenities. It is a very large property that feels like a private hotel. There is a lovely woman who is also on the premises to take care of things as well as the manager of the property who comes and goes on the premises. There is another separate Air BnB within the main gate so there might be another small party on the property at the same time. There are many stairs so if anyone in your party is not nimble it might be a little more challenging. Easy to walk into town but at the same time you feel like you are miles away. We had a wonderful time.

We all agree we have mixed feelings. While the space fit us easily and was beautifully laid out, we felt the communication was not transparent. Until we noticed a review AFTER booking stating personnel had access we were unaware people would be in the house. Upfront house amenities state laundry and dryer, then in details adds 'for a fee'. Staying with families and small children laundry is a necessity because you can only pack so much, and the price was exorbitant. Staff came in and started cleaning 3 hours before check out so we didn't even have access to the kitchen for breakfast. We clearly stated we had an infant but no crib was supplied...we ended up buying one for safety. Consistent hot water is not available for washing dishes or showering, some had warm water, I never did. So while we had plenty of space, and the location was good, overall it was not our best experience.

We've been loyal guests for over 7 years, staying multiple times annually. Since the original host, Paul's passing two years ago, we've experienced a significant decline in hospitality and property maintenance. Despite addressing concerns with Paul's widow, Lila, she unexpectedly canceled our July 2025 reservation. Recent issues: No assistance with luggage going up multiple flights of stairs for our group of 8 older adults Denial of access to common areas including kitchen, living room & dining room due to Lila's recording sessions Malfunctioning showers in multiple rooms False accusation of stealing beer I reached out to Lila directly, explaining that the empty beer bottles were from our own purchase at a local microbrewery. We've requested an apology and fair resolution, emphasizing our long-standing relationship and respect for the property. However, we've received no satisfactory response, and a review was posted about us on Airbnb without addressing the situation.

Host Response

The reason this reservation was cancelled is because this member orginizes trips to Oaxaca within her other guests and requires help that is not included in the Airbnb polices , we wish you find a better place for your business

Excellent!!! Stayed here with 9 people, and was easily big enough for us all. The living area with the pizza oven is fantastic, and the pictures under-sell the last bedroom with a sofa bed — that one also has the best view! Comfortably fits as many people as it claims. In general, the pictures don’t do this place justice. The view is phenomenal, and the space is just awesome, with great places to hang out for a big group. A few of my group arrived before me and I got a number of individual texts saying something to the effect of “WOW THANK YOU FOR BOOKING THIS PLACE, IT’S GORGEOUS” with appropriate memes, haha. Location is good. Despite not being directly in the city center, we easily walked to all our activities in under 15 minutes. Do note, it doesn’t have a dishwasher, so if you want to cook at the house, you’ll either have to do dishes or rely on their (wonderful) team to clean some of them for you, but if you do you should expect to leave a tip! Would 100% stay here again!

The house is amazing and perfect for a bunch of couples; you're basically renting out a private inn. The pictures in the listing are spot on, and each room is just as good as the next. Perched on the hillside made for spectacular views and a short (steep) walk to the city center. It was great to cool down in the pool in the late afternoon heat. You should note that the property manager and staff all have access to the space. Oaxaca is a wonderful city to explore w/ many quaint neighborhoods. I highly recommend taking a day to explore some of the sights and artist villages outside of the city. A friend from Oaxaca recommended Ruben who we hired for the day. He was really great and gave us a truly unique experience that you would never have with any of the larger tour operations. We also did a full day cooking class at Quinta Brava which was another highlight for our group. The restaurant and live music venue next door, Humito, is really great as well.

we always have such a lovely time at el comalito. highly recommended for a stay!

The house is huge and absolutely beautiful. The rooms are large, tastefully decorated, and each has its own bathroom. Beautiful tiles and rugs. Overall we had a great stay. However, we were not told beforehand that the very large kitchen and living area was shared with a smaller apartment within the same building. We also had to share the front door key with the other guests, and instructions about this were totally unclear - we were about to be left out on the street because the new guests weren't informed about this, and were walking away with the key. (We weren't told either - luckily the cleaning lady happened to still be there and explained this very strange system). We also had some issues with hot water - all the showers were cold! However, Anastacia was very pro-active about this and sent someone the next day to sort it out. Wonderful place to stay - if it had clearer instructions and details!

Great place for family vacations. Close to the center and the kitchen of Humito which is next door, it's great :)

It was the second time we stayed at Comalito. In both cases we visited with a large group (16 folks), first time with friends (2022), second time with family (2024). The nice thing about the location is that everyone has their own room, but there is also a common space, and everyone could come and go as they pleased. As we were celebrating a birthday at some point in the week, we had common activities, and if we didn't have joint activities, people could choose their own. Visiting the City Centre from Comalito was easy as it was only a 15 minute walk down the hill. If it rained, there were plenty of taxis to take us back up the hill. Anastacia was always helpful with recommendations or references when asked, she is a very responsive host. We had an excellent time with the family and staying at the Comalito made that possible.

Amazing! We hosted a joint bachelor/bachelorette weekend here and had a great time! The house and views are absolutely gorgeous! The rooms were very comfortable despite not having AC. And the pool was a MUST for mid-day cooldowns. We were a little surprised that the front entrance also led to another listing in the same building and that there was an office for cleaners/security in the main hallway. Both things made it feel a little less private, but ultimately worked out just fine and didn't both us.

This Airbnb was one of the best we’ve ever stayed at! We’ve been to Oaxaca a few times before, and booked this for our friends and us to enjoy the week of our wedding. It was perfect. HUGE space that allowed for everyone to have some privacy, but fun common areas where we enjoyed spending time together. The pool was a necessity during the hot days. No AC in the rooms, but we had fans and kept our windows open at night to cool things down. Even though the Airbnb was further up the hill, we felt incredibly safe walking to and from the main squares in Centro. The road leads right to Santo Domingo, so we always knew how to get home. Lots of stairs so would not recommend for those with trouble walking. Diego and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Anastacia helped give recommendations for a private chef, who was a hit with our guests. Highly recommend if you’re needing a large house for your stay in Oaxaca!!

We had a wonderful stay! The views were incredible and the breezy living area was fantastic. What a unique and beautiful place!

We love this beautiful large Mexican styled home. Lots of little nooks, rooftop pool and great multi person dining table. After long days of touring Oaxaca it was so wonderful to pop next door to Humito for great food and lovely service . Lila's team are top notch, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I highly recommend staying here with your large group. A great way to walk off those amazing Oaxacan dinners . Up the hill and to a glorious night time town view. So glad we stayed at Comalito!!!

We’ll be back! Loved this place. Plenty of space for our group, loved the pool, loved all the views the place offered. So much life and greenery and happiness all around. There was significant road construction nearby which impeded taxi access but the house staff was helpful in navigating that challenge for us. We enjoyed the 10-15 minute walk into town. Never felt unsafe, and loved being nextdoor to Humito restaurant. We did a lunch there, a breakfast and was an easy place to grab a round of cocktails. If you’re ok with a bit of a walk and have a larger group, this is the place to stay.

Staying in Lila Downs' beautiful home couldn't have been more perfect for our group of 8 women painters, all visiting Oaxaca for the first time. We each had our own room and bathroom. Some rooms were bigger than others but everyone was very happy with each room. We had plenty of communal space to hang out as a group and there were a few spots on the roof to be alone as well. The location on the hill gave us incredible views and while many reviews talk about how steep the hill is and how they took taxis to get back home - our group loved the walk up the hill! The walk to town wasn't a big deal, 15-20 minutes and we found wonderful places for coffee within 5 -10 minutes of walking. The beds were super comfy with nice cotton bedding. The hot water in the showers was a tad unreliable, but not a big deal. The staff was very friendly and available whenever we needed them. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed. The pool was a wonderful respite from the heat of the day. We

This house is breathtaking and a perfect spot for a friends trip. You will absolutely love this house!

Beautiful spot. We spent four nights with 3 families + 1 couple. Great set up as bedrooms were large and private, allowing people space to “retreat.” Stunning dining room area and pool was great to play in after the days activities to cool down and reset Up on a hill for panoramic views. Does mean that you either get a good workout running home or take a cheap taxi home from downtown Chef Gabi made a great Mole and breakfasts for the family. Absolutely great home base to explore the city and surrounding area.

Highly recommended!

We had 13 for our stay and absolute LOVED our time here. The space was as described and even more beautiful. Would definitely come back again. Having the restaurant/music venue Humito next door is an extra perk. Easy walk to Centro and a Soriana supermarket or the Mercado down the hill if you need to load up on multiple grocery items.

We had a group of 12 for a 4 day culinary adventure. We are amazed by the size of the home. Very comfortable and very clean. It feels like you’ve rented your own boutique hotel. As many reviews state, the pics do not capture the size of this estate. It was also really helpful to have the staff there during the day to answer questions or concerns. Do yourself a favor and book this home! You will not be disappointed.

This stunning home was a perfect place for our family of 11. There is enough space for everyone to have their own private space and large common areas that are perfect for gathering. The pool is amazing, especially on hot summer days in Oaxaca, and the kitchen was fully equipped so we could cook any meal we wished. Our rooms and bathrooms were incredibly clean and comfortable, not to mention beautifully decorated. The pictures don't do it justice; it's truly luxurious. The staff is helpful and kind. They are around during the day, but are very respectful of your space and privacy. The home is in a great location and is walking distance from anything you need in the center of town. We would love to stay here again in the future!

Our stay at Comalito was incredible. We could not have asked for a more perfect place for respite. We had plenty of space for our guests and everyone was stunned when they visited. We also want to thank Señora Rosario, Diego and all of the staff for always being attentive to our needs. They were so kind and we felt safe. It was an added bonus to have restaurant Humito next door in case our meal plans fell through. This place was a perfect site for us to spend the week before our wedding and we could not recommend it more highly!

The views are incredible. The pool is fantastic. All of the rooms have their own bathrooms and feel private. The big dining table is great for large meals. It's in a good location in Oaxaca, easy to walk into the center. It's well maintained and clean. My group really loved the house and I would definitely stay there again. Highly recommend.
