2BR Home in Cabuya

We had a great vacation here! Love the beach, the location, and Tanya was so helpful !

This is an incredible cabin! Sitting out at the water every morning with a coffee watching the iguana and other wildlife scurry around - just amazing! I am a huge fan of Airbnb - stayed at 50+ places around the world and am moreover a shareholder - and this is one of the most memorable places ever! There are just not that many reasonably priced places out there that are directly on the water. Big pluses include AC in both bedrooms, washer and even dryer too!, solid internet with 4 users watching video, and even a long garden hose that allowed us to wash off our 4WD that was just utterly filthy after driving the famous rough dirt road over the hills to Malpais every day (that has not changed a bit in my 23 years of use). To quibble a bit - some minuses were very imperfect screening that can’t keep all mosquitos out (hint: leave fans running!), AC remotes missing batts, need to flip the electrical breakers in order to get AC to work. All in all - a terrific place to spend Xmas & NY!

absolutely awesome, we loved it here! it's very obvious that this beach house was built with love & it's been kept very clean. from the description (& from being familiar with the area), we knew it would be rustic, and we are here for that!! but we were surprised by the functioning modern amenities, the washer (tico style, love it) & dryer (unusual plus!), the hot water, the excellent AC (barely used it tho, the fresh breezes!!) in both bedrooms, the ceiling fans (powerful!), and the strong WiFi. comfortable beds, clean (and not ultra perfumed lol) sheets & towels... we loved everything!! can't wait to come back!!! here's a note about the beach, just to help clarify: the beach (literally in the front yard) here is rocky. perfect for beachcombing!! we bring a bag for picking up plastic trash (every high tide in the world drops garbage 🥲), which is very satisfying 🥰

Tanya’s place was definitely very rustic and simplistic. All of the basics were there but don’t expect any more. The house could use some maintenance and upkeep - you can tell it’s not used very often. The area itself is beautiful - the view of the ocean and outside area is awesome. If you are looking for a place in to stay with a beach front to walk out for a swim/surf/fish - unfortunately, this place is not it. The spot this house sits at is brutal due to the extreme amount of rocks. Swimming during high tide could be risky because of the amount of rocks and debris. There is no sandy beach in the vicinity. In fact, we didn’t ever see anyone swimming or beach combing in this particular area. We just drove towards Montezuma for fishing and water activities. But if you are only looking to enjoy the views and sit back & relax - this place may be for you. It’s a quiet town and great restaurants. Jenny was friendly and helpful.

While yes, the beach is a little rocky once you reach the shoreline, it is at the foot of the generously sized backyard. It is very quiet and private, perfect for those who prefer the intimate experience. I enjoyed watching every sunrise sitting on the wooden Adirondack beach chairs placed at the edge of the yard overlooking the sand and further reaching waters. Low tide is interesting. Very close to Cabo Blanco National Park

Host Response

Hi Julia, thank you for your thoughtful review and for staying at Casa Astrid. So glad you had a nice time :) I see that you cave us 5 stars in all the rating categories and yet the overall rating was somehow 4 stars. Do yo think it might have been an error? If so let me know and I’ll look into it. Cheers! Tanya

Loved staying at Tanya’s beach house! It was simple and perfect. It had everything I needed and nothing more- which is exactly what I wanted. Wake up to the sunrise and fall asleep to the sounds of rain (and occasional howler monkeys). The location was perfect. The home is surrounded by hibiscus flowers and fruit trees (I think limoncello?). Jenny the local host was amazing. She knows everything about Cabuya and was always gracious with helping us. I would love to come back here.
