Charming 2BR beach house in Cabuya, Costa Rica, with ocean views and wildlife sightings. Open-air design, spacious deck, and steps from shops and calm tides.
The Space
Enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze at our charming beach house located in the heart of Cabuya, Costa Rica. From the spacious backyard porch, you can observe a variety of wildlife such as Capuchin and howler monkeys, pelicans, parrots, iguanas, butterflies, and other exotic birds. The property offers a beautiful view of the bay and Cabuya Island, all from the privacy of this cozy beach retreat.
Casa Astrid features open-air cathedral ceilings and French doors that run along the ocean-facing side of the house, providing excellent natural light and ventilation. The large covered deck is perfect for dining or unwinding in one of the hammocks or lounge chairs.
The house includes two bedrooms—one with a double bunk bed—and a built-in couch, accommodating up to six guests. Both bedrooms have quiet air conditioning units and powerful ceiling fans to ensure a comfortable sleep. High-speed internet is available through a fiber optic connection, ideal for those who need to work remotely.
Please note that Casa Astrid is a rustic, simple beach house situated in a jungle village setting. The amenities are basic, and the yard is home to various critters including monkeys, parrots, iguanas, and insects. If the French doors are left open, occasional bugs or even a hermit crab might find their way inside.
The internet service may occasionally be unreliable and might not meet North American or European standards. The house is equipped with a Costa Rican-style washing machine and an on-demand water heater in the shower. This property offers a unique experience distinct from a typical resort stay. If you seek a pristine hotel environment, this may not be the right choice. However, if you want to immerse yourself in Costa Rica’s flora and fauna in an open-air beach house, this could be ideal.
Location
The house is situated in the small village of Cabuya, approximately 7 kilometers from Montezuma. Cabuya features several charming cafes, restaurants, bakeries, and stores, including three full-service mini supermarkets where you can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, household essentials, toiletries, and alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and liquor.
Within a three-minute walk from the house, you will find a bakery, a restaurant, a cafe, a mini supermarket, and a small boutique. The bus to Montezuma, with a transfer to Cobano, stops just one block away.
The beach in front of the house is unique, featuring a rocky shelf extending about 50 meters into the water. The tides are gentle with no strong waves. The beach transforms significantly as the tide recedes, making it ideal for swimming near high tide and exploring or wading at low tide.
Guest Access
Please check in directly at Cafe Coyote with Jenny, the restaurant owner. If you arrive after hours, a key will be available in a lockbox on the side of the house. The code will be emailed to you after booking.
Jenny, who manages the property, owns Cafe Coyote located about two blocks from the house. You can reach out to her anytime if you need assistance.

This is an incredible cabin! Sitting out at the water every morning with a coffee watching the iguana and other wildlife scurry around - just amazing! I am a huge fan of Airbnb - stayed at 50+ places around the world and am moreover a shareholder - and this is one of the most memorable places ever! There are just not that many reasonably priced places out there that are directly on the water. Big pluses include AC in both bedrooms, washer and even dryer too!, solid internet with 4 users watching video, and even a long garden hose that allowed us to wash off our 4WD that was just utterly filthy after driving the famous rough dirt road over the hills to Malpais every day (that has not changed a bit in my 23 years of use). To quibble a bit - some minuses were very imperfect screening that can’t keep all mosquitos out (hint: leave fans running!), AC remotes missing batts, need to flip the electrical breakers in order to get AC to work. All in all - a terrific place to spend Xmas & NY!

This is a beautiful very rustic oceanfront stay. We loved the hermit crabs and tiny lizards everywhere. We were able to see Howler monkeys, iguanas, large butterflies and more just from the porch of the house.

absolutely awesome, we loved it here! it's very obvious that this beach house was built with love & it's been kept very clean. from the description (& from being familiar with the area), we knew it would be rustic, and we are here for that!! but we were surprised by the functioning modern amenities, the washer (tico style, love it) & dryer (unusual plus!), the hot water, the excellent AC (barely used it tho, the fresh breezes!!) in both bedrooms, the ceiling fans (powerful!), and the strong WiFi. comfortable beds, clean (and not ultra perfumed lol) sheets & towels... we loved everything!! can't wait to come back!!! here's a note about the beach, just to help clarify: the beach (literally in the front yard) here is rocky. perfect for beachcombing!! we bring a bag for picking up plastic trash (every high tide in the world drops garbage 🥲), which is very satisfying 🥰

Tanya’s place was definitely very rustic and simplistic. All of the basics were there but don’t expect any more. The house could use some maintenance and upkeep - you can tell it’s not used very often. The area itself is beautiful - the view of the ocean and outside area is awesome. If you are looking for a place in to stay with a beach front to walk out for a swim/surf/fish - unfortunately, this place is not it. The spot this house sits at is brutal due to the extreme amount of rocks. Swimming during high tide could be risky because of the amount of rocks and debris. There is no sandy beach in the vicinity. In fact, we didn’t ever see anyone swimming or beach combing in this particular area. We just drove towards Montezuma for fishing and water activities. But if you are only looking to enjoy the views and sit back & relax - this place may be for you. It’s a quiet town and great restaurants. Jenny was friendly and helpful.
