2BR Villa in Nicoya

Rose

Excellent, 1 month ago

This was by far the best stay I’ve ever had! House is beautiful, clean, and exactly if not even better than described. The view is breathtaking, you’ll see beautiful sunset from there! Location is perfect really not far from the main street of santa teresa and easily accessible. But still very safe, calm and private. The host is very nice, available, responsive and generous! I really never had to worry about anything there. Thank you again a lot for everything ! - Rose

Host Response

Thank you Rose is was truly a pleasure to have you and all the best.

We had a great time staying here. The view is absolutely incredible - honestly the best views, and the pictures match the description perfectly. The kitchen was fully kitted out and the whole indoor/outdoor living setup felt very Costa Rica. Yes, there are bugs, but that’s part of being in the jungle, and the view more than outweighs it. Uky was very responsive and a great host throughout our stay. We also felt very safe with security at the entrance to the property. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for an authentic jungle stay with unforgettable view

To my friends who enjoy the good life - please read! Positive: The photos and other reviews are not incorrect. You really sleep in the jungle and have a great and rare view. BUT! It is neither a luxurious experience nor a villa (Airbnb title at the time of our booking: "Luxurious Villa"). The experience is exclusively for people who also like to go camping. When you turned on the light in the evening, hundreds of insects came into the house because there are no windows (sunset in May is 6 pm!). So, from 6 o'clock on, you couldn't cook, let alone eat, because there were countless beetles and cockroaches on the table. You could only shower with the light from your cell phone. At night, it's so loud that light sleepers have a hard time resting – especially since monkeys also went into the kitchen and crept around the house. Half of the appliances were defective (fans, gate, stove...) and there is neither air conditioning nor a dishwasher. Towels always smelled musty and were dirty...

We spent a week in paradise at Villa Mapache. The pool was delightful. We were in it many times each day enjoying the superb view of the ocean and the beautiful skies. We had to learn to adapt to the total open air situation, which meant getting the cooking done before nightfall and the need for proper lighting which invites many bugs. Making those adjustments was more than worth it! It was truly an experience of a lifetime. We cant say enough about our wonderful host, Uky! He went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. We may have another visit in our future. Especially to see Uky!

Me and my girlfriend absolutely loved it. We stayed at 3 different places during our time in Santa Teresa and Villa Mapache was our favorite. One of the reasons for this was because of Uky who was so helpful during our stay. He was literally waiting for us when we arrived at the AirBnB, gave us a tour, sent us tons of tips and recommendations, helped us book an ATV, and helped with other travel advice even after we left the villa. He truly cared about our experience and it meant a lot! As for the villa itself, keep in mind that it's open air, so if it's hot outside then it can get hot at night when sleeping. They do have fans but if you are not used to sleeping in the heat just be prepared! And then you will definitely need an ATV to get to/from the villa from town. ATV's are $60-80/day so just keep that in your budget. Overall, the view from the infinity pool was well worth needing an ATV and I would definitely stay here again.

The surroundings and views are amazing. The layout of the house is also very well done. However, we didn't give a better overall rating for a few reasons. A. the photos are misrepresenting. Where you see windows in the living room, there is not a long wood plank wall - windows. B. there's a beautiful deck but nowhere to sit or lie down. In the photos you see a few boho deck chairs, but those were replaced for two cheap beach folding chairs, that really just don't go with the rest of the house and were also not comfortable. C. we saw that there's no AC on the photos, but this time of year it's just too hot to do without AC. D. for a bit of TLC from the owner, the place would feel more welcoming. It doesn't feel like they are making an effort. That said, the manager was very forthcoming and responsive. The house has a lot of potential and if you come at a cooler time of year and don't mind scarce seating, it's a nice place to hang out.

The location in about half a mile into the mountains, half the way is pathed (the steeper parts), the rest is dirt road and crossing a river bed; make sure you come in a sturdy 4 wheel drive. The house fits in perfectly with the Sta Teresa vibe: beachy, jungle, animals, raw! The house is great, but does need some paint and other minor upgrades like more than I chair for the terrace. The concept is completely open, no doors or windows needed (ie leaving what is there open all the time you are there) … until it rains … No airco, but who needs that when you can finally enjoy the breeze! Plan on bringing most things you think you’ll need. The neighborhood has a guarded gate at night.

Host Response

Thank you Peter always welcome back. pleasure to mee you.

We had a really unique and memorable stay here. The property is up in the hills, so I would definitely recommend having a 4WD vehicle to get up comfortably. Without it, it would be pretty difficult. There’s no AC, which made it a bit hot for me personally, but that’s also part of the experience. You really feel immersed in the jungle… falling asleep & waking up to the sounds of monkeys was cool. I wouldn’t personally stay here for a full week, but for a couple of nights it was perfect and something I’m really glad we experienced!! The host was fantastic… super responsive, friendly, and went above and beyond to help us! He helped us secure a last-minute boat trip and gave great recommendations for surf lessons, which we really appreciated. Overall, a great stay if you’re looking for an authentic jungle experience!!
