Special place, would definitively recommend for a peaceful getaway in the beautiful Costa Rican mountains.

Alan's place was amazing! The house is beautiful and in a very scenic location. We loved the amenities - the hot tub was a really nice way to unwind after a day of hiking. The house itself was large and more than spacious for two families. We hired Chef Juan Diego for most of our meals which was SO worth it. The cooking was healthy, from scratch, and delicious. This trip was one we will never forget. a few tips: -Most certainly rent a four-wheel drive, compact SUV. We had a Suzuki Jimmy and it was a rockstar in the mountains. This is a must in our opinion. -turn the hot tub on for a half hour to allow it to heat up before using. it gets hot, though (in a great way)! -Finally, use Waze for your GPS-this is also what Alan suggests, so listen to him! We made the mistake of using google maps once, which took us on the unpaved road next to the house instead of the typical paved way, which was the biggest nightmare ever. Overall, this house and trip were incredible and we would go back!!

I would normally start with the positive for any home whether it was five stars or not in my book, but against AirBnB policy this home has a camera inside the front door facing the main living area of the home. In addition to motion sensors for the security system throughout the space, we felt very vulnerable as a family of five staying here. The home is gorgeous and has a stunning view. The kitchen was well stocked, but we did look for the listed first aid kit and could not find it anywhere. There were several nice touches like gift baskets, but I did have to wash all the dishes by hand because there was one dishwasher pod and one large trash bag for our week long stay. You do have to regularly unplug the water pump to keep water going, but we didn’t know this until after we’d gone without water overnight. One shower at a time bc there isn’t enough water pressure. The rugs were very messy when we arrived. Host apologized and asked me to wash them as they were missed by cleaners

Host Response

Rachel, a SuperHost, FAILED to call me, a SuperHost, of her concern about our security camera in the main living area. Rachel filed a claim with Airbnb. WITHOUT REVIEW, Airbnb restricted our account and threatened to cancel all quest reservations and remove us from Airbnb. Our response to Airbnb: "Our home is a highly valued property with high end furnishing, appliances and accessories. Our guests stay in the exact home we live in. Costa Rica has an on-going problem with petty crime. Our home is on the side of mountain, and we and our neighbors have had a series of thefts. Our number one goal as homeowners is to protect our home. Our internal security includes perimeter switches (doors, windows, etc.), motion sensors, and one camera in the great room, which includes the living room and kitchen area. I alone control the camera. It is ALWAYS OFF when guests are present. The camera is ALWAYS ON when guests are not present. Our guests control all the internal security sensors, perimeter switches and motion detectors when present, with the codes for the internal security system, to turn it on or off, at their discretion, for their protection. We encourage guests to turn on the security system whenever they leave Cielo to go adventuring. What is more concerning, is that Rachel is a “SuperHost” for Airbnb and NEVER once contacted me regarding her concerns about a security camera. Then this complaint ambush. What concerns us even more is your "guilty-first" actions and restrictions... and threats of cancelling our future scheduled guests and Airbnb existence. Did you call us first before “taking action”? You call that “Support”? Is this how you handle unsubstantiated complaints? Please read our reviews. We work hard to please our guests because of who we are, not because of you. Our Host team and support service providers work hard for our high standards. Recent “trusted” Airbnb guests have stolen from our home, damaged property and defiled high end bedding and towels, burned up pans, utensils and appliances. One guest burned up the whole outside wall by the pool because of his unattended BBQ. We have never filed a claim for damages with Airbnb. We have turned down movie companies and large graduation and wedding parties. This is our home and this is our community. Airbnb guests have brought additional undeclared guests. Four female guests got lost at 1:30 AM and called our Host. Our Host, a female, went alone and found them and led them back to Cielo. One guest took a 4-wheel drive road in a 2-wheel drive car and got stuck in a deluge rain storm. Our Host went and found them and brought the family safely back to Cielo in our Host's personal car. One couple, unannounced, brought 2 crawling babies. We require in writing all children be 2 years or older. The outside pool camera alarmed movement and we saw one child alone about to fall into the swimming pool. We called our neighbor who rushed over to save the child's life. These quiet successes go unnoticed by Airbnb. The camera is OFF when guests are present. The cameras are announced. The camera is not the problem. Rachel is the problem... and your untoward actions attacking a good, proven SuperHost. Please reverse your actions, and let us get on with our hosting. Thank you.

We arrived at Alan’s place in the evening after a full day of international travel. We walked in and our breath was just taken away! There is a wall of sliding glass doors with a mountain view from the movies. Beautiful landscaping led to a tropical canopy of lush greens that is filled with wildlife. Off in the distance, you can see the Pacific shore! We could have sat outdoors all week and been thrilled with our vacation. The house was furnished nicely and very clean upon our arrival. The bedrooms were large and comfortable with private baths. The kitchen had ample dinnerware and all the pots and pans you could need. We grilled steaks, chicken and burgers on the pristine grill and ate outside admiring the view. Alan responded every time we had a question and offered a plethora of ideas for restaurants and entertainment (all of which proved amazing). Our family had a wonderful week and I’d highly recommend Alan’s place!

Our family had a second trip to Costa Rica and had an amazing experience staying at Alan’s house. It felt like home. From the beautiful well equipped kitchen to the views of the mountains and the beautiful clean pool and Jacuzzi we felt like royalty. This was our second time visiting, and we can’t wait to visit again soon.

What a beautiful home! We had a wonderful experience at Alans’s home and would definitely return in a heartbeat. Everything was very clean and well kept. A slight issue we ran into was the hot tub not working, Alan was extremely responsive and sent someone out to address the issue quickly. Be mindful that you are in the mountains, you will need a larger car to get there given the grades of the roads that surround the property. Overall fantastic stay!!

Beautiful home and location! We enjoyed our stay very much. The personal chef was worth the price and we highly recommend. The main house is not air conditioned as implied in the description. Only the upper bedroom. Opening the doors at night until going to bed and turning the ceiling fans on cooled the house off though. Pool and hot tub were great for our kids. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!
