The Space
Relax with your family and friends in this elegant, peaceful, and enjoyable retreat. Located just 25 miles from San Jose Airport, this custom-built home features 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. It is situated in Antigua del Valle, a private, gated boutique community nestled in the mountains of Atenas, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
This residence is often described as a private sanctuary and personal resort with spa-like amenities. The living areas showcase glass wall doors and large picture windows, along with sliding glass doors and ceiling fans throughout the home. These design elements take full advantage of Atenas’ eternal spring climate and stunning mountain views, creating a seamless indoor/outdoor living experience.
The home’s designer details have been carefully selected and thoughtfully coordinated. The owners have furnished the space to combine luxury with comfort.
Inside, there are two seating areas:
- One with a sofa, three side chairs, and a TV viewing space.
- Another with two leather captain’s chairs in a three-sided glass room, ideal for afternoon cocktails or a quiet reading nook.
Outside, you will find four separate private seating areas to enjoy the natural surroundings, including rocking chairs and a relaxing hammock.
Each master bedroom is equipped with a luxurious king-sized bed, therapeutic pillow-top mattress, and high-quality linens. Every master suite includes a spa-quality bathroom finished with natural stone. Large walk-in closets are stocked with towels, extra pillows, sheets, blankets, and beach towels.
The third master bedroom on the second level is a fully furnished private suite featuring:
- A separate kitchen with a cooktop, refrigerator, appliances, and utensils
- Air conditioning
- A beautiful private view of the valley and distant ocean
The main kitchen is a chef’s dream, fully equipped for preparing gourmet meals. A full utility room with a washer, dryer, and supplies is also available.
The pool terrace is designed for outdoor dining and relaxation, featuring:
- Two tables with chairs seating 12 guests
- A separate seating area
- A 4-burner gas grill and smoker
- A solar-heated pool, hot tub, sun deck, hammock, pool recliners, and mountain views
Outdoor Aviary
Guests have identified 72 different bird species in the backyard. Large hillside trees provide ample food and nesting spots for this diverse bird population. Binoculars and wildlife guides are provided for your enjoyment.
Additional Features
- A home office with resort-wide extended wireless internet, a custom-built desk, and stunning outdoor views. This space also serves as a fourth bedroom with a twin trundle bed (converts to two twin beds) and a half bathroom, ideal for children or extra guests.
- Two additional inflatable single air mattresses with linens and bed bumpers for children.
- On-property security includes perimeter cameras and a private safe for valuables.
- Minimum stay requirement of 4 days.
Guest Access
Guests have full access to the entire home and all its amenities.

Available at an extra cost, guests can arrange:
- Private chef services or catered meals and snacks, delivered to the home
- Skilled private massage therapy with advance reservation

It is recommended to check availability for chef and massage services when booking. On checkout days that coincide with new guest arrivals, cleaning begins at 8 am. Additional cleaning during your stay can be arranged for an extra fee.

Antigua del Valle is a small gated boutique community located 15 minutes from downtown Atenas. It is surrounded by some of the finest coffee plantations in the area. Situated at nearly 3,500 feet above sea level, the community enjoys a year-round spring-like climate.

Alan's place was amazing! The house is beautiful and in a very scenic location. We loved the amenities - the hot tub was a really nice way to unwind after a day of hiking. The house itself was large and more than spacious for two families. We hired Chef Juan Diego for most of our meals which was SO worth it. The cooking was healthy, from scratch, and delicious. This trip was one we will never forget. a few tips: -Most certainly rent a four-wheel drive, compact SUV. We had a Suzuki Jimmy and it was a rockstar in the mountains. This is a must in our opinion. -turn the hot tub on for a half hour to allow it to heat up before using. it gets hot, though (in a great way)! -Finally, use Waze for your GPS-this is also what Alan suggests, so listen to him! We made the mistake of using google maps once, which took us on the unpaved road next to the house instead of the typical paved way, which was the biggest nightmare ever. Overall, this house and trip were incredible and we would go back!!

I would normally start with the positive for any home whether it was five stars or not in my book, but against AirBnB policy this home has a camera inside the front door facing the main living area of the home. In addition to motion sensors for the security system throughout the space, we felt very vulnerable as a family of five staying here. The home is gorgeous and has a stunning view. The kitchen was well stocked, but we did look for the listed first aid kit and could not find it anywhere. There were several nice touches like gift baskets, but I did have to wash all the dishes by hand because there was one dishwasher pod and one large trash bag for our week long stay. You do have to regularly unplug the water pump to keep water going, but we didn’t know this until after we’d gone without water overnight. One shower at a time bc there isn’t enough water pressure. The rugs were very messy when we arrived. Host apologized and asked me to wash them as they were missed by cleaners

Wow! What can we say!!! Alan’s place was nothing short of paradise. My family of 6 loved spending our time at his Casa Cielo! The place was very clean, he and the local host were very responsive whenever an issue arose and the home just felt like… home. We had wonderful views of the valley and on clear days we could see the ocean! Staying here was a welcomed vacation and we would love to come again.

We arrived at Alan’s place in the evening after a full day of international travel. We walked in and our breath was just taken away! There is a wall of sliding glass doors with a mountain view from the movies. Beautiful landscaping led to a tropical canopy of lush greens that is filled with wildlife. Off in the distance, you can see the Pacific shore! We could have sat outdoors all week and been thrilled with our vacation. The house was furnished nicely and very clean upon our arrival. The bedrooms were large and comfortable with private baths. The kitchen had ample dinnerware and all the pots and pans you could need. We grilled steaks, chicken and burgers on the pristine grill and ate outside admiring the view. Alan responded every time we had a question and offered a plethora of ideas for restaurants and entertainment (all of which proved amazing). Our family had a wonderful week and I’d highly recommend Alan’s place!

We loved this home. It felt very private and safe and we immediately felt at home. It is clean and well stocked with everything you could need. Alan was helpful and responsive. The pool and hot tub were great as well. Highly recommend this home.

Our family had a second trip to Costa Rica and had an amazing experience staying at Alan’s house. It felt like home. From the beautiful well equipped kitchen to the views of the mountains and the beautiful clean pool and Jacuzzi we felt like royalty. This was our second time visiting, and we can’t wait to visit again soon.
