3BR Villa in Puerto Vallarta

Excellent, 4 weeks ago

We had a wonderful stay at this home in Puerto Vallarta. The views are absolutely amazing, and the location is perfect—close to many great places and everything we wanted to enjoy during our trip. The host was very accommodating, had great communication throughout our stay, and even took the time to give us a tour of the house when we arrived, which was very appreciated. A couple of things to be aware of: the street leading to the home is very, very steep, so I would not recommend it for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs or walking on steep inclines. Try to rent a 4x4 truck . Also, about half of the pool is around 8 feet deep so keep that in mind if you can’t swim. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The amazing views, convenient location, and wonderful hospitality made it a great expe

We had a wonderful stay at this Airbnb in Puerto Vallarta. The house has an absolutely breathtaking view of the entire bay, and we even saw fireworks over the ocean from the balcony during one of the ocean activities, which made the experience even more special. The private pool was fantastic, and my daughter enjoyed it so much that she wanted to swim every day. The location is also excellent, with just a few minutes’ walk down to the Malecón, making it easy to explore the waterfront, restaurants, and shops without needing a car. The combination of the stunning views, great location, private pool, and the unforgettable fireworks made this a memorable stay. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta and would love to stay here again.

We had a fantastic stay and would definitely return in the future! The home is beautiful with breathtaking views of Vallarta, a gorgeous tropical backyard vibe, and a pool the kids absolutely loved. Michael was a phenomenal, highly responsive host who greeted us with a smile. The house sits on a very steep hill, but Michael went above and beyond by helping us up with our luggage. We parked at the bottom and used the daily walk as a workout, but my recommendation for future guests is to rent a 4x4 vehicle and you'll be perfectly fine. Michael was also incredibly accommodating and even offered us a flexible, late checkout. We highly recommend this place and its wonderful hospitality! 👌

This is a gorgeous, spacious home with a spectacular view of the city and great amenities. Michael was very helpful and quick to respond to all our questions. Just a heads up: the hill is very steep, and we found that Ubers often wouldn't drive to the top, so we did a lot of stair-climbing (which was mentioned in the listing!). Our only minor issue was the jacuzzi, which requires several hours to warm up and lacks jets. Overall, a lovely stay for those who don't mind a little bit of a climb for a great view!

Our stay at Casa Mateo exceeded all expectations. The home is very spacious and we loved all the amenities, especially the pool and hot tub. It’s a 5 minute walk to the downtown area but also felt very private. Michael is one of the best Airbnb hosts I’ve met. He picked us up from the airport and offered great local recommendations. We happened to be staying at the house during the cartel’s destruction of vehicles and businesses in PV in Feb 2026. Mike was very communicative with us and made sure we were safe and comfortable. There was plenty of water available on arrival and a convenient store a few minutes walk away to get extra food. The house was the best place to stay given the circumstances and the neighbors were lovely. PV normalized quickly within 24 hours and we felt very safe going into the city after this. We would return to Casa Mateo in a heartbeat. We hope people to continue to travel to PV as it remains very safe and a welcoming community.

Wow!!!! What a great find! We visited PV with three friends, and Micheal's place was such an amazing part of our trip. Yes, the location is at the top of a pretty epic incline... but you know what... that equals such a beautiful view of Puerto Vallarta, as well as some of the loveliest sunsets! We shared this stunning home with another couple as well as a single friend. The other couple took the second floor Primary Suite, and we shared the main floor living area with our friend... we got the king bedroom, and he took the double bed around the corner. Our host, Michael, was very responsive, and very easy to work with. He very kindly picked us up at the airport, and even took us to a local grocery store to grab some necessities. While driving there he pointed out some favourite places. Micheal is a long-time resident of PV, so he knows the area! Honestly... the house has just about everything we needed. With so much space we all had the privacy we wanted, and the common spaces to share!

Michaels house is one of a kind! Gorgeous home, stunning views and close to everything. Michael is very helpful and responsive. He picked us up at the airport and was very accommodating to extend our checkout by a couple of hours which was really appreciated! The hill is definitely steep but the stairs help with the climb, and the neighbor was able to book us cabs that are able to get up it for grocery runs and airport pickup. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at Michael’s place from December 11–16. Michael was an excellent host—very responsive, welcoming, and easy to communicate with throughout our stay. The house itself was perfect for our group of six, with plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. The layout was exactly as described. The outdoor living space truly made this stay special. It was exactly what we were looking for, and the pool was everything we needed—perfect for relaxing and enjoying time together. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and we would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend Michael’s place to anyone looking for a comfortable home with an amazing outdoor setup.

Awesome stay at Casa Mateo, views for days, must be some of the best in Vallarta? The house is beautifully appointed and quirky and awesome. Do not stay if you are looking to remain indoors or want a super modern experience - not the place for you. But if you want to enjoy your time OUTSIDE while visiting paradise, you found the right spot. Pool is fantastic and much needed! Loved being so close to a beautiful sandy beach, the area is fantastic, super lively. Lastly, Michael was super helpful and responsive, really nice guy. Thank you!

This was our third time staying in Michael’s place. I don’t think we could imagine visiting Puerto Vallarta and not staying there. It holds so many special memories! The views are unmatched, perfect location that gets our steps in, honestly feels like our home away from home. Michael is lovely and accommodating. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay a 4th, 5th or 6th time!

The best Airbnb we have ever stayed in. We laid in the pool lounger and watched the sunset almost every night. The kids loved the pool so much, and it was always great to jump into after a walk up the hill. The ac works great in both rooms if you need a place to cool off. The market down the hill is great for cheap beer and snacks, they also sell fresh ceviche and eggs. We used Uber eats a couple of times too for when we didn't feel like walking. All of the food delivery people are on motorcycles so they can easily come up any hill. We also brought a tripod and took family photos around the house, there are so many pretty spots and viewpoints. We will definitely be returning. Thanks Mike for everything!

Michael was an amazing host he was very responsive and very helpful, the house is so beautiful in person! The whole family was in love with this place and everything is really close by. I also got engaged at this house so it will forever hold a special place! Thank you once again for everything Michael! :-)

Host Response

Congratulations!

Michael was an amazing host, providing us with many recommendations and suggestions around the area. The included pickup from the airport was a lifesaver, and there were also several amenities that were provided that are not even on the listing. Michael provided us with drinking water and ice, which saved us many grocery trips as we were a big group. The home itself was immaculate, exactly as described in the listing. Everything was very clean and felt comfortable, with all necessities provided (towels, toilet paper, cooking utensils, cutlery, etc). I would certainly recommend Casa Mateo to anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta. The view is absolutely breathtaking from either floor of the house. Thank you Michael!!

Michaels place is very unique and beautiful. Great location within walking distance to the beach and downtown. The listing isn’t completely accurate however - almost the entire home is completely outdoors with no walls or doors to the kitchen or downstairs bedrooms - you are truly outside at all times. The photos are outdated and don’t match the actual bedrooms. 5 people max could comfortably stay there. There was also a known issue of “coatis” (like a much larger raccoon) that were around and in the house everyday. You cannot keep anything out on the counters. The water was also shut off for two days (maybe more) - we had very low water pressure from the start and then absolutely no running water for over 24+ hours which forced us to check into a hotel for the night to literally shower and use restrooms. There was zero communication about this issue from the host until we contacted him and had to follow up multiple times for updates about when we could return to the house.

Host Response

This review is completely inaccurate, the description and photos are exactly the way the house is. The bedroom downstairs does have walls and can be closed up for air conditioning. 2 kings one double a twin bed and sofa bed makes plenty of comfort for 6 adults and 2 children. I was never notified of low water pressure and had to come by to fix the pool timer and talked with the Male guest who said everything was fine and having a great time when he came down to the pump room that is under the pool. On day 4 of their stay The water was shut off by the city to do a major repair at which time I was notified by the guest about any water problems. I immediately called the water company and found out that it would be off for 24 hours and relayed this information to them. This property is never without water as there is a huge reservoir on-site. They chose to vacate the property leaving all of their belongings and the hot water valve open in one of the showers. When the water came back on it ran for over 8 hours before I arrived to the house creating a sauna in the bathroom and consuming a large amount of water and gas. Fortunately for Brynn and her guests there was no damage as it’s all tile and glass. I also found many cigarette butts in my plants which is unacceptable since smoking is not allowed. With over 300 reviews and a very high rating it’s obvious that this one was completely inaccurate and embellished and should be discarded.

Sure had a great time at Michael’s Casa Mateo. Great value too. It’s on a steep hill, so might not be walkable for some. But for our group it was fine, and we enjoyed that it was in a non-tourist neighborhood, had a small bodega down the street, and we found an amazing fish market not too far away as well. It’s also pretty close to the beach and the northern end of the malecon. Big place, LOTS of room, pool and hot tub too. The garden, in particular, was really beautiful — Michael takes great care of the plants. He was also very responsive to any question we had, and lives nearby so can respond quickly if the need arises. He’s also a really nice person and was a pleasure to interact with. We just had a great time.

Michael is an excellent host, contacted us before arrival to arrange airport pickup. He drove us to his house then did a good tour with helpful instructions for use of pool, hot tub, appliances, etc. Was very quick to respond to communication and any issues that came up were addressed right away. Other reviews mention this as well, that the house is situated at the top of a very steep hill so walking up can be challenging for some. The property is special, so many outdoor spaces to relax, gorgeous view, and privacy. Beds were comfortable and home well stocked with amenities. Area is central with lots of great restaurants, walking distance to beach and shopping. Highly recommended!

We had an incredible stay at Casa Mateo! Michael is a fantastic host who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and happiness. From the moment he picked us up from the airport, we felt welcome and at ease. The house itself is stunning, with breathtaking views of the sunset from every room and the beautiful pool area. It's truly a special place. However, a word of caution to future guests: don't underestimate the hill leading up to the house! It's quite steep, and not all taxis are willing or able to drive up. My in-laws(in their early 70s) were able to walk up the side stairs. However, due to heat and humidity, we found it better to call a taxi for transportation. We learned that only a handful of taxi drivers are familiar with the route. Fortunately, the neighbor has a reliable taxi connection that can assist. Despite the hill, we wouldn't hesitate to return to Casa Mateo. Michael's hospitality, the house's stunning views, and the tranquil atmosphere make it well worth the climb

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Michael's stunning villa in Puerto Vallarta, and it exceeded all my expectations. Michael was the most gracious host, picking us up from the airport and providing the BEST restaurant recommendations that truly enhanced our stay. His professionalism and attention to detail were evident in every aspect making us feel right at home. The villa's location is perfect, close to everything & offers the best 360-degree views of the city and the ocean. The top-floor rooftop was a highlight, with unbelievable sunsets that left us in awe every evening. The villa itself was immaculate, spacious, & equipped with all the amenities needed for a peaceful and comfortable stay. Michael's dedication to ensuring our satisfaction was unmatched made this one of the most memorable trips I've ever had. I will undoubtedly be returning & will only stay at this villa every time I visit Puerto Vallarta. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an exceptional experience!

Casa Mateo is a dream come true. It's a huge house for a great price. Beautiful decor and beautiful open feel to the whole house with gorgeous views. Host Michael was very welcoming and even picked us up from the airport. (thanks Mike!). The infinity pool is amazing and the house is centrally located. Had such a great stay and hope to be back soon!

We had a fantastic week at Michael’s house! We were two families with three children and the space was absolutely perfect for us. Each family had their own sleeping area and private bathrooms. There are five bathrooms total in the house so never an issue with privacy. The house is located within walking distance to everything - you can find local street food and upscale dining all within a short walk. We loved the house so much it was hard motivate to leave though! We cooked in much more than planned. The kitchen had everything we needed and was a comfortable spot to hang out later after sunset. The highlights: swimming area and hammock, the top floor for before dinner drinks and sunset, view from the second floor bedroom was also spectacular and had a lovely breeze even in the heat of the afternoon. I did yoga and Pilates outside on the balcony overlooking the sea each day. We loved our stay and will definitely book again!

What a fabulous vacation house! This was our second time in PV and we were so lucky to find this beautiful villa within walking distance of anything we wanted to do. Michael was kind enough to pick us up at the airport and deliver us safely to Casa Mateo, where he carefully explained everything we needed to know about the house, including spot-on recommendations for things to do and restaurants to visit. He thoughtfully provided more than enough purified water so we didn’t have to worry about that detail during our stay. We stayed with another couple and spent our days lounging by the private pool or in the rooftop palapa, and were within easy walking distance for any of the nighttime activities we wanted to do - dining, shows, and even touristy things on the Malecon. As mentioned by others, this is a typical PV house in the hills, with steep streets and stairs for access, but it served as a welcome daily workout and does not detract from the home. I absolutely recommend staying here!

This villa is incredible, it made me feel like a movie star! Michael was so communicative and helpful right from the first moment we interacted about the booking. We were five people: my parents in their 80's in their own fabulous suite on the third floor, and my brother, my partner and myself sharing the two-bedroom unit on the second floor. There is not a lot of privacy for the sleeping arrangements on the second floor, but the house is so huge that you can get away from everyone else in it at any time of day. I had read the comments and reviews about the hill, but I had not appreciated how insanely steep it was until I arrived by taxi with all my luggage and the driver refused to go up it. Fortunately the house is so amazing that we only wanted to leave it once a day. The pool is fresh and gorgeous, and all the tropical plants around the property are incredible. The stunning view is unbeatable, and I loved the rock-star palapa with bar on the top! Thank you, Michael!

We stayed at Casa Mateo to celebrate my birthday and it was a wonderful experience! We spent a lot of time at the open-concept house enjoying the amenities, our favourites being the poolside and rooftop patios. This house perfectly fit our group of seven friends - we shared beds but having five bathrooms was great. Great strolling distance within downtown and to the zona romántica. Michael was a great host, readily available to answer questions and super helpful. I would stay again in a heartbeat!

This is an oasis in the heart of PV. The view, the commodities, the pool… everything is perfect. We were 2 families (7 people) sharing the space and it was perfect. If you come with a baby, bring a 4x4 stroller for the rocky streets (we had a Thule with the jogger wheel and it was perfect). Michael is super proactive and one of the best host we’ve ever met. Don’t hesitate to try Bicho taco stand just at the bottom of the hill for the Camarones tacos, Ceasare for breakfast and enjoy cooking at home! Thank you for everything Mike!!

Incredible views, dynamic house, perfect fit for all ages

We loved being able to stay at Casa Mateo! Our group of friends booked this vacation together and it was a great spot. The layout of the home is fantastic. We loved all the spaces. Highlights would have to be the pool, kitchen and top floor/balcony area. I can see this home being great for a large family as most of the beds/room are connected without walls. But as longs as you're comfortable sharing space with your friends it's a dream! We slept on the top floor star gazing some nights as well (10/10 recommend). Coordinating with Michael was extremely easy. He picked us up at the airport and gave us the run down of the house and neighborhood. When we showed up Michael had already made sure we had gallons of fresh water and tons of ice in the freezer (thank you!!). Yes there is a hill to climb up and down (but that is true for many places in PV). The entire villa is open air which is a treat. Having a taxi driver as a neighbor was very helpful during our stay. Can't recommend enough!

We had an amazing stay! Michael made us feel right at home and gave us all the details we needed to start our stay on the right foot. We brought our one year old and the house was great for us! Loved the pool and all the amenities - perfect place to escape your busy life! I would note that this home is located in a tricky area if you have mobility issues, but if you are up for adventure or planning to lounge at the house for your stay, this is PERFECT for you - you’ll have everything you need. Michael was super responsive for everything we needed and was extremely accommodating. Would absolutely stay again! We will remember the views for a lifetimes!

Very nice location for this place, incredible views, sunsets not to be missed from the upper terrace. we could also see a whale. the house is very well equipped, the garden is beautiful. close to everything thanks Mikael for everything

Casa Mateo was a dream! It had the classic Mexico feel we love with all the modern amenities we wanted. It was clean, it provided everything we needed and more. We had an issue with an air conditioner and Michael was out immediately and had it fixed. He also responded promptly to every text we sent. The pool, I could have spent the rest of my life in that pool. The view, I could have stared at that view for the rest of my life. The garden was well kept and beautifully done with several quiet spots (including a very enjoyable hammock) to just sit and enjoy. The bedrooms were also clean and quiet, which was a welcome reprieve from the constant Dia de Los Muertos festias. I would definitely recommend staying in Casa Mateo and will likely try to stay there again on a return trip to magical PV.

My friends and I had a great stay at the Airbnb. Michael was very accommodating and even came to pick me up from the airport. He walked me through the house, showed all the amenities, and gave recommendations for markets near by. The house itself is beautiful. This is exactly what comes to mind when I think beach vacation and it feels very local to Puerto Vallarta. The views from all over are stunning, but the best view is from the top terrace. The pool is relaxing and includes a swim up bar. There are no shortage of bathrooms.

The house is even more wonderful than the pictures. The details throughout the house are thoughtful - and there are plenty of bathrooms. There are so many comfortable places to relax alone or to gather together. The landscaping is beautiful. The views are incredible. It's quite evident that this home has been a place of joy over the years and it's very kind of Michael and his family to allow others to experience staying at Casa Mateo. Michael is a warm and considerate host. I would stay here again if I had the opportunity.

The house is as beautiful as the pictures, the views are amazing , the beauty of Puerto Vallarta truly came alive from this vantage point. The house was meticulously clean and well maintained. Our host, Michael, was wonderful, he was prompt and attentive in his communication, he offered to pick us up from the airport and since we rented a car, he meet us down the street from the house to show us the way up, the warm welcome made us feel at ease, he provided helpful recommendations and we weren’t disappointed when we tried several places. Overall, our stay was a great experience and we highly recommend this Airbnb and look forward to returning in the future.

Our family vacation to Puerto Vallarta was absolutely amazing. Michael’s home is exactly as pictured and made for a fabulous immersive experience in Mexico for our teenagers. The house was very clean and there was plenty of space for everyone. The views from every level of the house are sensational. We walked out every day and only took a cab once. The Malecon, beach and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. Yes the home is on a steep hill but we were all in better shape once we came home! Plus the views were worth the climb. I would highly recommend staying in this house, and we would absolutely stay here again.

What an absolutely beautiful home. I love the outdoor living. The open air kitchen. The incredible views of the city. All the amenities are as listed. It was nice to have a grill for dinners. The pool was super refreshing and a nice respite from the June heat. Only downside was the hill. It is hard to walk but that made the pool that much more enjoyable. Michael is a wonderful host and gave us a lot of ideas for outings and restaurants. I highly recommend his home and would stay there again.

This place is so unique and beautiful. We’ll never forget it. First time in PVR with our two teens. Photos can’t do the home justice. All of the levels, the open air style and views are just amazing. The rooftop palapa terrace alone is with the price of admission. We really enjoyed the pool in the afternoons. Short walk to a beach club, the Malecon, some restaurants and a longer walk or 800 peso cab ride to Playa Los Muertos and the Romantic Zone. This house was such an important part of a wonderful family trip. Michael is a fantastic host and we felt like he enjoyed sharing his beautiful home with others. Hope to return!

We really enjoyed our stay at Michael's Casa Mateo. We wanted an immersive experience in Puerto Vallarta and Casa Mateo delivered! The entire house offers amazing views of the city and bay, especially from the top-floor palapa terrace. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets and sunrises and watched whales every day. The pool, hot tub area and surrounding gardens are spacious and relaxing. The house's location is excellent, just a short (but steep!) walk down to the beach and the Malecon. The house's open-air nature immerses you in the sights and sounds of Puerto Vallarta, which is what we wanted, but do expect nightlife noises late into the evening and roosters and church bells in the morning. This is a different experience from staying in a modern, air-conditioned high-rise condo, but one we found as memorable as Puerto Vallarta itself. Michael was an excellent host, meeting us on arrival, responding quickly to questions and requests, and helping out in a big way on departure day!

Michael's place is a fantastic find in PVR. The views from the top are breathtaking, the kitchen is large and full of all the utensils you would need, there's a pool, and a hot tub. The two bedrooms are very spacious and there is a bathroom on every floor. The top level is covered to protect from the elements but is otherwise open with amazing views of PVR. This was our hangout spot every night after dinner. Michael's property sits atop a steep hill but that's a small price to pay for the views and very generous space. The infinity pool was refreshing with a shallow and deep end and the hot tub was just another way to relax at the end of the day. Would we stay here again? Absolutely! Should you stay here? Absolutely! Now book it before someone else does.

Case Mateo is beyond amazing. This is the first Airbnb place we have ever stayed in that is actually better than the photos suggest. Staying here has really added to our overall experience in PV. The house has everything. Some days we never left, simply relaxing around the house The Pool, Outdoor Areas and Rooftop are simply breathtaking. The location is also perfect. Walking distance to Shops, Restaurants, Bars and the Malecon, and a short taxi ride to the Airport, Marina, Hotel Zone and Zona Romantico. Mike was just sensational, going above and beyond to ensure we had everything we need, even picking us up at the airport and driving us to the house. We could not recommend this place any stronger. 6 stars out of 5.

The hills can be a bit intense but you don’t get those views without the elevation, and they are truly worth it! If you’re like us you enjoy eating and drinking everything on vacation and the walk is a good way to get you moving.  Also the house has the number of a cab company that has no issue getting to the top. The house is fantastic! The grounds are stunning, if you love plants you’ll be in heaven. Having your own pool beats the heck out of sharing with strangers.  Location is great, close to everything you need or want to do.  There’s a fresh market close by and the house is well equipped for cooking. Mike is a great host, the pick up at the airport and trip to the grocery store was appreciated.  He was communicative, easy to get a hold of and helpful. Only recommendations: a sleep option in the top area in case there are couples that would like privacy and extra keys for the house (we had 6 people and coordinating was tough) But neither were huge concerns. We will be back!

We had the luxury of staying there for 10 days. Michaels place is amazing and the views were spectacular. Our 10 year old and his friend pretty much lived in the pool. A great treat to be able to wake up and jump right in. You are in walking distance to the malecon and great restaurants. Don’t forget to explore the side streets. Highly recommend Barcelona tapas. Yes the hill is steep but my 75 year old mom walked it every day. Consider it your daily exercise. We will 100% book again when we return to PV.

This place has amazing reviews and the pictures are breathtaking…. What we found look somewhat different. The good: * Amazing views * Great communication * Host very accommodative The medium: * Everything works somewhat… will explain with pictures of allowed * The pictures used in the listing is at minimum5 or 10 years old - with a not being maintained situation * BBQ grill (that works somewhat) ran out of propane, extra bottle in garage was empty, Mike able to replace the next day, but hey changes to dinner 🍽 plans in PV - Was NO PROBLEM, great restaurants everywhere The bad: Mike’s place is RUN down and everything needs tlc/ maintenance, update and or even basic good cleaning. the hotTub the day we arrived - brown ring on side from previous guess Standup fan provided in the room, comes apart in 2 pieces when trying to move and no longer has rotate action The refrigerator has food dirt on the shelves. The pool bed has a broken wheel, so needs to be lift up the move into shade vs push Paint everywhere coming off and bad mold in master bathroom. Pool tiles broken and plants growing in between tiles of the pool’s overflow Open air living is a great thing in PV, however the place need serious TLC

The Awesome 1. We watched a unique and perfect sunset every night from the private balcony 2. We cooled off every afternoon in the clean, private pool 3. Mike greeted us at the airport, escorted us to get groceries, gave a personal walk-thru of the property, answered every question about the area and removed all stress from our arrival. Met Expectations 1. We wanted to be walking distance to the bay. You can hear the waves crash from the upper balcony. 2. We wanted to stay where locals live, not in a resort surrounded by US stores and food. We woke up to roosters every morning and were serenaded by live latin music every night. ..also some chatty dogs, and nightly fireworks right in front of the house just off shore, lol. Surprises 1. The kitchen is open air. Time in the kitchen means time outdoors. A. Bring bug spray B. Lock up food at night - bugs and animals will get into the trash and anything not secured overnight. C. Only the two bedrooms have AC. The kitchen and every other space relies on fans and breeze. 2. Only Jaime’s cab company drove to the house. All other taxis and Ubers had to let us out or pick us up further down the hill (80 stairs). This is important if u have lots to carry, dont want to get sweaty (ie nice dinner), or have someone in your party not able to climb steep hills (elderly, broken foot, etc.) 3. There are no TVS 4. There is no dishwasher. 5. The house could use some TLC. It is showing wear - mold and peeling in ceilings, very old appliances, etc. We were willing to sacrifice some comfort for a more authentic experience. It was maybe a little more rustic than we expected, but the positives well outweighed the negatives for us.

Host Response

I’m sorry that you were not satisfied with your experience at Casa Mateo, the time of year is the wettest after 4 months of continuous rain. If you read the description and amenities section of my listing you would have clearly seen that the air conditioning is only in the bedrooms and there is no TV or dishwasher listed. As far as TLC being needed, your correct, it’s happening now, as every year after the rainy season.

This was literally 5 stars across the board! if you are traveling to Puerto Villarta, and are trying to decide between a resort and this home.. choose THIS home. There is not a view in the entire city that is better than you will have the privilege of seeing here, and it is so close to the beach and every other place you would ever want to be Mike is amazing and the friendliest host you could hope for... if you think the pictures look good, get ready because it's even better!! Overall.. my family and I decided that if we come back to this beautiful city, this is the ONLY place we'll be staying. Thank you, Mike, for allowing us to use you amazing home for this week in our lives!! It was absolutely unforgettable.

We came to Casa Mateo for a family vacation. The experience exceeded any expectations. The house has the best view of Puerto Vallarta and is the best choice whether you want to spend the day in the Malecón or the beaches, or if you prefer to rest in the house. The pool does allow you to swim, the water is warm. Also, Mike is an excellent host, who takes care of all the details to make your stay super pleasant. We will definitely be back!

Location of the house was literally perfect. Close enough to walk to the boardwalk and beach but also just saw up the hill enough to have a view of the city. The home was clean and the air conditioning was a must need in the humid hot weather. I would caution that the hill needed to ascend to get to the house is very steep so just prepare for that.

Such a lovely house and fantastic stay! Mike is the absolute best and was so helpful and accommodating during check in and throughout our stay. We loved our days by the pool and enjoying the view - one of our trip highlights. I will warn that the hill up to the house is definitely very steep. We had a rental car the last day to drive to Sayulita and used it to get to the airport during departure and it was quite intimidating to get it up the hill. Otherwise we mostly just Uber Ed everywhere and I’d recommend sticking to that. Otherwise, the house is lovely and we had a great time!!

There isn't anything that I can say that the other zillion reviews hasn't already stated! Mike, the location, this place all simply AMAZING‼️ Mike is a terrific host, easy to get in contact with and he offers to pick you up from the airport AND take you to the store for a food run! The house... mind blowing! Stayed here for 5 nights with a group of 6 and had the most fantastic time ! Don't hesitate: BOOK THIS PLACE. PERIOD.
