Amazing! Vico, the property manager, was incredible. He helped us schedule massages, had great restaurant recommendations and was incredibly responsive. The space is beautiful. The stair situation was a challenge but we’ve all left stronger, and appreciated Vico’s help with the bags. There weren’t extra pillows - if you’re particular about your pillow I’d recommend bringing your own.

An absolute gem for our group who stayed here for four days. Communication was great, Vico was quick to respond and help when we needed him and the property was beautiful. Made some amazing memories with our friends and kids.

A really beautiful, special place to stay. Yes, be prepared to hike up a lot of stairs to get there, and yes, ear plugs are great for sleeping. But it’s well worth it, a magical place with incredible views. Two teenage boys and 3 adults had a wonderful time there. I hope to return and recommend wholeheartedly.

Such a beautiful place to stay!! Vico met us at the dock and showed us up to the house. Well stocked kitchen, comfy hammocks, wild view of the bay. Totally recommend to anyone looking for a place for a larger group (we had 3 separate couples) with a common space and room to be more private.

Really different, in that the kitchen, sleep areas, and bathrooms were pretty much outside. Really cool! We liked that plenty!

We were a group of 7 friends and had an amazing stay at Casa Alegre! Ian was extremely responsive and helpful. He gave us clear instructions to get to Yelapa and answered all my questions. Vico showed us to the house, he was also super nice and took the time to give us all sorts of local recommendations! The house itself is beautiful and open concept, the pictures don't do it justice. There are quite a lot of stairs to get to it, but we got used to it quickly. It's a short walk from Playa Isabel, the nicest beach. Also a close walk from grocery stores and restaurants. We had an unforgettable experience in Yelapa and specifically, this house. Could not recommend it more!

Tropical paradise! Incredible beauty everywhere you look. Everything was 5 stars. I loved everything about our hacienda in the sky. The property is situated in the middle of the jungle of Yelapa, with giant palms and tropical trees filled with birds doing their thing. Sleeping was a dream in the lofts (there are 2 of them) – falling asleep to the sound of distant ocean and birds singing. The entire property was immaculately clean including the spacious outdoor kitchen. Free to roam with a property that size. It was a pleasure using the toilets and showers, with open windows and gentle warm breezes coming through. We had a few canine and feline visitors, which we enjoyed very much. Vico, the property manager, tipped the scale into excellence as he saw to it that we had everything we needed. I will never forget our vista looking out at the bay of Yelapa, with the big beach across the way. Beautiful moments sitting in dappled sunlight sipping on a cold Modelo.

Was such a great stay! It was very clean considering the space being exposed to the outdoors. There was obvious bugs and nature noises in the mornings and music at night but overall amazing getaway with the fam.

We had a wonderful time staying here over the Christmas holidays as a family. The setting is positively magical, surrounded by jungle with views of the main beach and the ocean from one of the palapas. There's a built-in exercise routine going up and down the steps each morning and evening. Our 4 yr-old loved the wildlife, including the roosters, who seem to have malfunctioning internal clocks. ;-) Ian was extremely helpful and communicative before and throughout our visit. Overall we had a fantastic experience and will look forward to booking again for future visits to Yelapa!

Casa Alegre is magical. We had the most wonderful time, our kids age 6,9,11 loved every minute. Yelapa is beautiful and Ian's place is a hidden paradise. I wouldn't change a thing. This will be a special memory for our family. Vico and Ian were helpful but not at all intrusive. If you are considering this place book it now, you will not regret it

Casa Alegre was wonderful. Really sweet spot in Yelapa. Gorgeous views, and everything you need to be comfortable while there, with one exception... the beds are really not that comfortable. We managed but after 5 nights were ready for better sleep. But the space is beautiful and very private. Would certainly stay there again.

What a fun 3 night stay for 6 adults! We actually enjoyed the considerable stair-stepping to the palapa and, of course, exploring the village and surroundings. We found good dining spots, hiked to both waterfalls, and loved relaxing at the palapa and listening to birds and savoring the view. The showers were fun and the beds comfortable. Ian was very quick to respond when we had an issue on arrival (water not running) and Vico came immediately and restarted the pump. The only negative was two of our nights fell during a 4 day music festival at the far beach that continued literally all night (booming bass DJ electronica). The festival goers probably loved it but most the townspeople and guests did not. Ian had warned us when he learned of it, tho.

Our whole family says: "Wonderful! When can we come back!!!" Communication and response to needs was exceptional. The kitchen was well appointed, the local stores had everything we needed to cook for a group of super-foodies. The layout of the property is great for a family group. There's ample space to gather and plenty of ways to have a bit of a break from others when needed. The location is amazing! It was everything that was described and more.

Casa Alegre was very nice. We had an excellent stay over new years. Ian was responsive. We were greeted at the boat and guided to the property. There were a lot of steps but worth it. The property was perfect for our needs. The kitchen well equipped and dining room is a great place to hang out. I did step on (and kill) a scorpion in the kitchen (it was the second night we'd seen it). Great host and a great view and a nice place to hang out. I didn't get a chance to meet Ian, but would book here again anytime. He answers questions quickly and took good care of us.

So peaceful. Terrific views. Thoughtful landscape design to maximize the feeling you are high in the jungle. It’s a meandering, interesting, but briefly steep hike to arrive. Flashlights help. Walk to anywhere. It’s a lovely retreat. We had two palapas. Teenage son was in one and adults in the other. We all very much loved it. The teen said “this is paradise.”

This was one of the most, if not the most incredible places I have stayed!! The casa’s are incredible and the pictures don’t do them justice. There is a climb with many steps to get up to the property from the road but nothing crazy, although I would not recommend this property for bad knees/mobility issues/or easily winded individuals. We had help with our bags, well stocked kitchens with plenty of fridge space, and was close to the town restaurants. The views from all three casas on the property were fantastic, with the sunrise in the morning and full moon at night. The open air construction, nature sounds and bay breeze made it feel like we were staying in a treehouse. We could have stayed for a week if the beds were just a little more comfy!

What a treat to stay at Casa Alegre. Loved it so much. Comfortable beds, amazing kitchen setting. Jungle noises, views…. We will definitely come back, but for longer. Ian was a great host and helped a lot. It’s quite a hike to the house from town but good exercise! Yelapa is super a sweet town. You will not be disappointed!

Absolutely the best place for our group in Yelapa. None of group of 8 had anything but praise. Many were hesitant, first-timers to MX and now are ready to come again next year. All want to re-book Casa Alegre. The private, open air houses were clean, fully stocked and easily the best accommodations of the dozen or so I have stayed at in Yelapa. Thank you Vico for your responsiveness to our needs. Location was also excellent, very close to town and up the hill private. Quite a few steps up but don't let that dissuade you.

Casa Alegre is magical. We loved being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves, insects, and birds. The view of the bay and surrounding jungle is stunning. The grounds feel private and secure, and can easily accommodate seven people. It was a real treat to stay in such a lovely place. Tips for your stay: - Bring earplugs. Like everywhere in Mexico, there will be night time and early morning sounds of dogs, roosters, loud birds, and loud music from the town on weekends. - Bring extra cash. Very few places accept credit cards, plus you’ll want extra cash to do outings with Ivan, Vico’s nephew. He can take you snorkeling, whale watching, or bring you on a boat trip to secluded, beautiful beaches. We did a half-day trip with him and it was amazing! Very fun and safe for kids. - Casa Alegre is open to the elements. There are no windows to close. Therefore, you’ll want bug spray and pants and a long sleeve shirt for nights when it gets a little chilly. - Book this special place! You’ll love it. ;-)

We stayed at a resort in Nuevo Vallarta for 5 days and stayed in Yelapa for 2 days. We were looking forward to experiencing 'the real Mexico' of Yelapa. We took a water taxi from Playa de los Muertos in PV. We took a private water taxi, yet public water taxis are available. It's a 45 min to hour long trip. Vico met us at the dock and he arranged to help us with our 2 suitcases. We are 2 adults and 2 kids and we each had a backpack. We knew about the steps and probably should have trained as our legs are still a little sore after being back home for 2 days. The wi-fi at the home is strong, we had no issues. In town and at the beach, we did not have reception. Ian helped us secure a private water taxi back to PV as our airplane departure was moved up 4 hours. Otherwise, we would have used the public water taxi. Ian was very receptive with my many questions and I felt confident that he and Vico would help if we needed anything. Cafe Bahia and Los Abuelos are muy delicioso! The cafe across from Pollo Bollo has very good cinnamon rolls, banana bread, and cookies. There are a few small markets with fruit, groceries, etc. Best way to get from Town Pier to beach is to take a water taxi. Walking takes ~ 20 mins and may require crossing the river depending on what time of year it is. Like it says in the description, bring a flashlight, ear plugs, and bug spray. We used Off Plant Based and it worked pretty well. We did not encounter a scorpion, thankfully. At the home, we did see leaf-cutter ants working at night, an iguana, a lovely spider, chachalacas, butterflies and other ants. This is a very special opportunity to stay in a magical town and in a very unique home! Vico told us that there aren't many palapas left.

We loved our stay at Casa Alegre! It is in a stunning location, gorgeous and private…we loved waking up to the sounds of the jungle and drinking coffee in the morning sunlight. Our stay at Casa Alegre Salva was exquisite. I am from the country of Jamaica, and having the access to the birds, butterflies, fruit trees, flowers was such a welcoming thing to me. Ian was a dream to communicate with, and Vico was such a great host. I just happened to mention to Ian I missed mangoes, and he arranged with Vico, who made the special effort to have a bag full of mangoes in the fridge when I arrived. That was incredible. I ate on it for the whole time I was there. Vico also picked a beautiful ripe sour sop (guanábana) for us and gifted it to me. It was huge! I ate some more mangoes from the several trees that are on site. What a paradise dream of a place! I also loved the rustic bathroom, water just the right temperature and surrounded by the beautiful jungle of fruit palm trees. To shower here is delightful. We saw so many different species of birds, I wished I had brought my birding book with me. Also remember your flashlight. Nighttime was so special to fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle and waves crashing at the seashore. The town folks are incredibly warm and helpful. The patiently led us onto the right path each time we got lost. Long story short, book right away, if it is available for your dates. You won’t regret it. It is not often you can find seclusion WITH an incredible view, and the privacy to sunbathe as you please. Vico is a gem. We thank you so much for welcoming us to your very special town, and your most perfect habitación. Much love, peace and blessings.

Yelapa really is magical and when you have a place to stay that accommodates a larger group it makes your stay even more memorable. Vico our host that received us was very helpful and in great communication with us. The bathrooms are not connected to the sleeping areas but close by. We loved the view from our palapa room and the open space was great for gathering. The house is accessible by many stairs. I think we counted 186, but there is also a rear access by quads which the host put us in touch with for pi k up and drop off services.

Ian’s place is a truly unique experience! The pictures don’t do it justice! There are many stairs, but once at the top the views, seclusion and ambiance are top notch! We have traveled to many exotic locations and try to stay in unique and authentic accommodations. Ian’s property is in our top 5 in our world wide travel! Have already recommend to family and would most definitely come again. Vico met us at the dock, got us checked in and gave us several recommendations. All of which were very helpful.

Casa Alegre is so great - my family stayed there for 1 week and really loved our experience in Yelapa. Be prepared for a bit of a hike and a fairly exposed experience as most of the beds are open air. The shower was nice and hot and we had plenty of blankets to keep us warm. If you visit in the winter make sure to bring some warmer clothes for the early morning - the sunrise is stunning from the smaller palapa. The town of Yelapa has so much charm - we got coffee at Cafe Pacifica every morning and cooked a ton of amazing meals with fish that we sourced from a local fisherman and the great housekeeper, Vico. Our favorite restaurant was Manguito’s on the other side of town alongside the river. Vico put us in touch with Franco who took us around on boat as well to visit a few private beaches and on a calm day we saw some beautiful whales from very close up. Overall great experience in a very charming town.

Casa Alegre is absolutely stunning! Our views were amazing. There were 4 of us (two couples) and we had more than enough room. Everything was very clean and nicely arranged. Hand soap was provided at each sink as well as fresh clean towels. Nice bath towels are provided as well. We love to cook, and utilized the provided kitchen pots, pans, and cooking utensils. We loved having butterflies flying through the kitchen and dining area! We all loved Casa Alegre and Yelapa and will definitely return!

Incredible spot with a breathtaking view. It sits high above town (my daughter says there are between 209-212 stairs, she never hit the same number twice) so pack what you can carry comfortably. Bug spray was helpful, although just turning on a fan worked the best to keep the evening mosquitos at bay. We also brought small black light flashlights to spot scorpions—they didn’t bother us, but it’s good to know where they are. If you have small children, bring a life jacket for the water taxi (they only carry adult sizes). A 10-15 walk gets you to the little beach and to town for supplies, 20-25 minutes to the big beach. Come ready to walk and relax, nobody here is in a hurry. The kitchen was clean and so fun to cook in. This place was gorgeous and such a welcome change of scene and pace. A truly incredible experience. We purchased a fish from the groundskeeper, Julian, who is a fisherman. The store had all the supplies we needed to turn it into ceviche tostadas and fish tacos. Waking up to the pink sunrise amidst the sounds of the jungle...What more could you ever need? I’ll be dreaming of Casa Alegre forever.

Heaven on Earth! Casa Alegre met all of our (fussy) expectations and then some. The buildings are separated by a scenic garden overlooking the water, but close enough to one another to feel like a family unit. It offers privacy without feeling separate! Accommodations were made to carry our luggage up to the house from the dock, and then to carry it down at the end of the trip. Everyone we worked with was timely, efficient, and their services were reasonably priced. The kitchen is fully equipped and very functional. There was plenty of hot water and all plumbing worked perfectly. I highly recommend this stay in Yelapa. You will not be disappointed.

We had the best time at casa Alegre selva! It’s beautiful and so fun to stay in a palapa with the open air and breeze. Loves the spacious kitchen and hammocks, nice shower, and location. We didn’t mind the stairs, it was a good workout haha. Vico gave us great local tips and ideas of what to do. Ian responded right away and was always there to help. It’s true that bringing flashlight and earplugs are mandatory! Overall fantastic stay and we loved it all

Casa Alegre was the perfect space for a family vacation in Yelapa. The main house is confortable and well equipped, we went on a fishing charter and got a lot of fish, so we ended up cooking a lot, and the kitchen was very well stocked- sharp knives, grater, peeler, blender- awesome. The beds were all comfortable, and the landscaping and views were stunning. Only word of caution is that it is up a lot of stairs- (217 to be exact) so not ideal for older or less mobile guests.

We had a lovely and memorable stay at Casa Alegre with the whole family. Our local contact, Vico, was super helpful and Ian was always quick to reply. It’s a beautiful place up in the jungle, with comfortable beds, modern kitchen, and unparalleled views. Some nice touches were a yoga mat and beach umbrella for guests’ use. Keep in mind you will need to bring your own salt and sugar! The kitchen is well equipped but no food supplies are provided. And make sure to leave nothing (nothing *at all*) in the open space of the palapa at night, and lock up all valuables and bring remaining non-valuables into the sleeping space with you at night. Yelapa is a hidden treasure and Ian’s place is a gem. Thank you!

A heavenly stay at a dream home. Yann is responsive and always responds very quickly to questions. The welcome is warm and friendly. The equipment is great, and staying at this palapa is an unforgettable experience, immersed in the sounds of the jungle and the rumor of the waves. The small port, although invaded by the cool baba, has retained its authenticity. Right next door, Puerto Vallarta is scary of concrete and noise.

Ian is a great host as he is available to help meet the needs of the traveller. His caretaker, Vico, is super friendly and quick to help out as well. His Yelapa home is a fun space to stay. The house is clean, fresh, modern and kept well. The gardens are nice as it gives the guest a buffer from the rest of the town. But the home is close enough to town to be able to access it and enjoy. I know anyone whom stays at this bnb will enjoy their stay. Thank you Ian, Vico and Vico's family!

This place was a great place to stay. It was an amazing deal for what it offers. It's a big open compound with 3 different beds all offering something different. This is a lovely place to stay in a spectacular locale. We enjoyed every minute of our time in Casa Selva. The kitchen was well appointed and would be great for entertaining. My husband and I enjoyed the feeling of seclusion, the lush garden, the amazing view from the open air room where we chose to sleep (there is nothing like sleeping in the open air and waking up to the view of the mountains and the bay), reading in the hammocks, the open air shower with plenty of hot water, the sounds of the birds, and so much more. We would love to come back, and while it was so special to have the place to ourselves, it would be a perfect place to bring our daughters next time.

Words cannot explain our surprise and delight when first approaching this place! Ian was a pleasure to work with and informed us that Vic would meet us in town and show us the way to the house. The place was spectacular, great water pressure, full kitchen and beautiful views! There are a multitude of stair steps to get there but then most of places in Yelapa are that way since everything is up the hills from town. All in all, we were very sad to leave!

If you're looking for just the right blend of privacy, natural beauty, and an authentic Mexican fishing village, you've come to the right place. Case Alegre is pure bliss!!! From the beautifully vibrant wild life, the smells of tropical flowers, a night sky full of stars, the sounds and music of a lively tropical paradise, and probably the most romantic setting anyone could ask for, this place ROCKS! Case Alegre could easily accommodate six people, with its full kitchen and a dining table that seats eight. This is an ultimate place for a family, some couples, or a posse of good friends. It is built for fun. Dinner party? No problem. Lounging in the hammocks while sipping a margarita and handling a few emails? No problem. Stretch out the mats for morning yoga? Bring it on! Ignore everything and decompress? Ahhhhh, yes. I highly recommend Casa Alegre to anyone who wants to let go of their stress and merge with the divine. You will not be disappointed. Come hungry, the food in town is spectacular. Come thirsty, the drinks are cool and tasty. And, most of all, come enjoy the beautiful ocean, and a town built on the love of it.

The property is Private and up a beautiful jungle path. I stayed in Casa Selva. The views are stunning. It is comfortable place to stay and thoughtfully appointed. The bed was comfortable and fitted with a lovely mosquito net, there are places to hang & store clothes, a nice table and chairs from which to soak in the view, a hammock, and a fridge. You have your own little sunbathing deck, I chose to watch the stars from it. (Check for scorpions before doing stuff in the dark.) The bathroom, while rustic, might be one of my favorite bathrooms I have ever showered in; think mesa colored walls and an open air view of the jungle. In the Palapa, the kitchen area had everything we needed. The open air kitchen & dinning area were all connected to lounge zone. It was such a relaxing place to hang out and eat and drink. Things I would recommend to other visitors of this property: -Bring earplugs for sleeping, because the sound from some of the parties they have in town needs to get blocked out. -The bathroom is downstairs or a little walk (depending on where you are sleeping) so for-sure bring a flash light to utilize that in the dark. -Bring yummy coffee so you can stay up on the property's kitchen with your friends and not feel like you have to leave in the morning to go looking for anything. VERY IMPORTANT: Eat at Taqueria los Abuelos. I cannot wait to return. Thank you kindly for everything.

Casa Selva was outstanding! It was a private spot in the jungle, yet close to the pueblo for groceries and restaurants. Our kids 4 and 7 stayed below us in the room that closed. The kids were happy for hours exploring and playing in the exotic grounds surrounding the casa. We hiked to the waterfall, rode the mules, pet the same group of dogs and cats around town, explored the pueblo, spent days at the beach (Tino's is the best beach food!), went fishing, saw whales, kayaked, cooked, ate, drank, played cards...it was excellent! If you need exercise the "road" is behind the property and 3000ft of elevation gain can be had (~9 miles) - this was a savior for my husband. It was difficult to tune out the music and animal sounds at night but ear plugs helped immensely as did the incredible moon risings and gleaming water. This was one of the best trips we've ever had.
