This was a wonderful experience for Our Family of 5. 2 Adults & 3 Children. We would absolutely look forward to returning again. Thanks!

Kathy and Rulon were fantastic hosts, they were very responsive and proactive about recommendations. The property is beautiful, 10 out of 10. We visited the small towns of Corrales, Mayto, and Tehualmixtle to swim, snorkel (Rulon and Kathy shared their snorkeling gear), and eat food. The food everywhere is amazing, you can’t go wrong. We rented 4wheelers from a local in Tehualmixtle and rode around the beaches, and we zip lined on the property. A few tips: Your rental vehicles need to be 4 wheel drive. Pick up pesos in Puerto Vallarta, you can exchange $USD in some of the local restaurants but PV is easier. Touch up on your Spanish, this is very rural Mexico where the locals speak practically zero English. Pick up some grocery staples in PV for your stay, especially meats, the local abarrotes will only have limited groceries. You won’t have cell service so download any music, maps, etc Our trip was fantastic, we can’t recommend this property and the area enough.

I have a new favorite place when I want to get away from it all… 💙 I hope to be back soon 🏝️

The house & beach are exactly as pictured. Hosts, Kathy and Rulon were responsive and on-site for any issues that came up. We hired the cook Miralba for 4 days, she was well worth it. The house is absolutely gorgeous, comfortable and beach is truly private and pristine for miles. This is where you go to disconnect and get privacy, so go there expecting that. The "towns" are about 30 minutes away and very small but there are a few restaurant choices and calmer beaches. Things to note: this place is RURAL. The drive to get there from PV is not simple and a good portion of it is not paved either. I would suggest renting a vehicle with 4WD/a jeep although we did make it without it but 4WD would have made it much more pleasant. Definitely don't make the trip at night if you can avoid it and if the GPS re-routes you around the town El Tuito for some reason, don't take that route. Download the directions before you go because you will lose service. I highly recommend this rental though.

A wonderful place in paradise. This house is comfortable and very clean. The large covered terrace is amazing and perfect for large groups. The beach…wow! Miles of perfect sand with no one but a few cows, birds and you! Sunsets for yourself, infinite skies at night, many places for beach campfires, it’s perfect. The villages nearby are welcoming and good for swimming and eating delicious seafood. Make sure you get the precise GPS coordoninates of the house before you leave, there is no network in the area. Cathy and Rolan were amazing hosts, and Jesus, who works on the property, is amazingly kind and helpful. I cannot recommend more!

I like others before me am blown away by the beauty and enjoyment of this home. The experience of staying here was one my children and I will treasure for all of our lives. If you have the opportunity to visit here then you should and consider yourself lucky!

Host Response

We feel extremely lucky to live here. So glad you came and enjoyed our little piece of paradise

Absolutely amazing. I hesitate to write a glowing review because I want to keep this treasure to myself :) It is truly a magical spot and a little piece of paradise. The beach is stunning, wild, and beautiful. The house is magical with rustling palm trees, beautiful wooden furniture, and a traditional roof. Our kids played in the trees, on the grass by the house, on the beach, in the sand, and around the tropical ramada. The ocean by the house is pretty wild, so the swimming here is not kid-friendly, IMO, but the kids loved being there and splashing in the surf of the waves. There is close and easy access to other calm beaches that the kids loved. As a host, Kathy was exemplary and always reachable. Our wonderful cook made authentic dishes that we savored as we sat on the porch. Wow! What a place. We would love to return often.

Wonderful place to get away and relax. Quiet and secluded beach front to just relax. 2nd time staying here, already looking forward to next year!

We had the most wonderful vacation at Kathy's cabana. The place was in a remote rural part of Mexico, which felt like we were experiencing true Mexico. We had our evening meals cooked which was just excellent every night. We explored the local fishing villages and spent a lot of time on the beach with the children making a shelter, building sand castles and releasing baby turtles. It was magical. We bought food at Costco, but also Cromer as we needed extra ingredients. The drive there was 2.5 hours from PV and beautiful. We loved the local people and authenticity of this area. Kathy and family were wonderful accommodating and so kind. Thank you!

This place is AMAZING! Highly recommend! You have miles and miles of beautiful beach to yourself! Kathy was a wonderful host and always very responsive and accommodating. Finding the place was a little tricky so make sure you arrive in the daylight and download the map. We stopped at Costco on our way out of Puerto Vallarta for the week's groceries. The house worked perfect for us (3 adults and 3 kids). We hired the chef for 2 meals a day and she was wonderful. Every meal was great and she accommodated our vegetarian needs well. The cleaner was great too. Everyone was very kind and we loved their dog, Axel. WIFI was not always consistent and only really worked in a few rooms in the house. The waves out front were too big to swim in, even for the strong swimmers in the group. But there were a few other beaches we visited that were 20 minutes to 1 hour away. Even though this is rural Mexico with very few touristy activities, we rented ATVs, went on the property zipline, visited the turtle camp, went snorkeling, hiked to the lighthouse, and even came across a sea turtle laying eggs on the beach! The restaurant, Tokipa, is also a great place to check-out! We had an absolutely wonderful time!

Kathy & Rulon were amazing hosts! We had an amazing stay at their place! We had ten total people in our group and the house was comfortable. It was a peaceful and private location that was relaxing, restful and very peaceful! It was what we were looking for--to experience the beaches and beauty of Mexico without all the hustle and bustle. The place is fantastic and comfortable! The beds were great, the space was great, the access to a secluded beach was right out the door! You can hire a cook and we highly recommend it. The cook was named Mirabla and she was a great cook and a great person! We visited the surrounding beaches and coastal villages/towns and that was awesome. We highly recommend staying at Kathy and Rulon's place.

Amazing secluded and special spot. We spent 5 days there with 9 of us for a family vacation. We rented two cars in PV and found our way to the house including driving on rough roads and fording a wide and shallow stream bed! Be careful to have the pin on the map specific as it is easy to miss the driveway. Incredible views and time just relaxing. The cook was lovely and easy to work with though we had a few Spanish speakers making it easier. The hosts are very nice and helpful.

This house is simply wonderful! Off the beaten path for sure, but stunning in its beauty, privacy, and natural surroundings. The house's finishes are very high end, and it was well cleaned with a nice yard, had comfortable beds . . . everything that shows the taste and professionalism of an exceptional host. I would definitely consider returning! (And I HIGHLY recommend both the cook and masseuse that are optionally available . . . it's 100% worth it - very reasonable prices with great quality.)

This place is amazing! Kathy and Rulon are so kind and generous with their time and accommodations. We loved the house and visiting the surrounding area. It’s a great place if you are looking to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. We also visited a quiet beach called Playa Corrales where we took the kids to swim and had an nice lunch on the beach. It’s a bit of a drive out there, but well worth it. We would definitely recommend you visit this place and would visit again.

This property is amazing! Beach access is easy, probably my favorite part is listening to the waves crash at night! Bring bug spray. The house is very comfortable lots of AC and very private. This is rural Mexico. Had a blast, Thanks again Kathy!!

Wow, this place is spectacular. So secluded, a beautiful home on a beautiful beach, and Kathy's hospitality is heart-warming. It was exactly what we needed. Note that during a significant part of the year including when we were there, the waves are big enough that swimming on the beach there is pretty dangerous--I suggest checking the wave forecast if you are interested in getting in the water. There are lovely tiny fishing towns a half hour in either direction that provide excellent protected waters for swimming and snorkeling.

Paradise is an understatement. The house is perfect for relaxing - comfortable with plenty of space! We enjoyed the low-key, laid back atmosphere and it truly felt as though we had the beach to ourselves. Rulon and Kathy make sure you're comfortable and well cared for; offering advice on things to do in the area, and were able to set up massages and tortilla cooking lesson in their home. We loved being able to help collect turtle eggs, and were even able to watch them hatch and make their way back to the ocean. We hope to return to this little slice of heaven in the future!

My wife and I just returned from an amazing weekend retreat with our two children (12 and 14) at the spectacular beach house in Mayto Mexico. The owner’s, Rulon and Kathy went above and beyond to ensure a great experience. Everything was so amazing, it is difficult to know what to list first. Being able to walk out the front door onto a private, pristine beach was priceless. The absolute quiet punctuated only with the crashing waves was such a respite from our daily life. The staff were available to meet any need we had. Our children never ran out of things to do, fishing in the ocean, riding ATVs, relaxing in hammocks, and playing with the owner’s dog who occasionally dropped by. My wife and I had the opportunity to be exquisitely bored. The photos of the home are accurate, it is beautiful, comfortably furnished, and well maintained. Mayto is off the beaten path, but that is one of the things that makes this retreat so special and a trek worth making. We are already making plans to return.

Host Response

Thank you for the review.

Only book this house if you are looking for ABSOLUTE PARADISE! It is hosted by a sweet, beautiful couple who demonstrate their obvious deep care for their community by leading efforts to improve educational opportunities for local children. It was so helpful that while the host’s primary language is English, they are also fluent in Spanish and helped us to secure taxi transportation to and from the Puerto Vallarta airport. Our driver picked us up and stopped at a bank to convert cash to peso (much better rate than at the airport) and then we went to a grocery store so we could purchase all the food we would need. We were given the option to hire a local woman to cook our meals for a VERY low price - we just needed to bring the food. Prior to our trip we were provided with a list of possible meals (with their ingredients) so we were able to bring all the food needed. We opted to just have our dinners prepared for us and we took care of our other meals. Her cooking was outstanding (fresh tortillas!!) and I highly recommend her. After the shopping, the taxi driver took us to the house (about a two hour drive south). It’s important to note that the nearest grocery store is almost an hour away so make sure you buy all the food you need - maybe make a list before you travel. The woman who cooked for us met us at the house and helped put groceries away so she could start making dinner while we got settled. The communal area is large, bright, clean, and airy. There was a constant breeze coming off the water that made it so AC wasn’t really needed (though it was available in all the rooms). Next to the large living/dining/kitchen area is a large king bedroom with private bathroom. Under the very large outdoor portal area is an outdoor staircase that leads to the other three en-suite bedrooms (king, queen, and 2 queen). Each of these rooms open onto the outdoor hallway. The beds were all VERY comfortable and had the softest sheets and great (abundant) pillows. Very nice shower and beach towels were provided as well. We all enjoyed the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep. We used the washing machine a couple times and hung out clothes on a line outside (there was no dryer but that was fine for us). The night we arrived, our 12 year old son found a baby sea turtle next to the house so he got to experience saving it and that was so awesome! There was a volleyball net set up for our use, and the boogie boards and games kept us well entertained. The hosts even let the kids use their cool zip line which was also a big hit! One of my favorite things about this place was that there is no cell service or WiFi so our kids weren’t constantly battling for the use of their devices! After dinner we laughed, played card games, and enjoyed each other’s company. Once a day we did take the hosts up on their offer to walk up to their house so we could use their WiFi to check in with family. One other thing to note is that this may be a great beach for surfing but the waves are pretty big and powerful so it’s not really appropriate for small children looking to swim (they could get their feet wet though). We didn’t want our kids 12 & 14 to play in the water without my husband or myself there to make sure they didn’t go in too far (less they get swept away!). We got to see whales out in the water multiple times which was very cool for the kids. If we are able to book this house again, I would probably try to get a better shopping list together since I knew what I needed for the dinners, I just didn’t really know how much of each thing I needed and ended up not quite having enough of some items. We stayed in three different places during this stay and this house was BY FAR our favorite. Probably our favorite ever! Tanya from Taos, NM

Thank you for the review. We appreciate the time and the details you gave to it. We are so genuinely happy that you enjoyed our place. We think your perspective is so valuable for the future guests but maybe more important, us. Thanks Hope to see you guys again soon.

This beautiful home is in rural Mexico, three hours from Puerto Vallarta. I recommend you travel by SUV, or truck, and four wheel drive is helpful. The roads are not maintained. If you want peace and quiet, away from humanity, noise, pollution, and surround yourself with incredible nature, this is your spot. This home has no TV, computer, radio, and intermittent WiFi. I recommend you bring all your supplies including food from PV. There are few restaurants. This spot is large, clean, and can easily accommodate up to ten people. It is perfect for a yoga retreat, writers, and thinkers of all kinds. You are surrounded by the jungle, and the crashing surf of the Pacific Ocean. The perfect spot to disconnect and renew yourself.
