Thank you very much, Mr. Ramon, for your hospitality and flexibility!

Host Response

My pleasure, come back soon

This is our first time visiting Casa Markel. We were looking for something big on the app because we were going as a family, and this one convinced us, in addition to the view it offered. Wow! It's better than I expected. It's very close to the main avenue. The road is flat, and to get to the house, there's a roughly 150-meter climb that's somewhat steep but accessible. It is quite spacious, has 3 bedrooms, each with a full bathroom, and 2 beds with a canopy and ocean views, like the master bedroom 😍 It has a swimming pool, a wading pool, lounge chairs and really everything you need to have a good time. What I loved the most is that if you are in the living room, kitchen or dining room, you have a view of the ocean 🌊🌴 Ramón was very friendly and helpful at all times. Thank you for making us feel right at home! 🙌

Host Response

Thank you very much. Excellent guests. I hope you return soon.

Casa Markel was absolutely wonderful and exactly as advertised. Communication with our host was excellent throughout our stay — we admittedly reached out quite a bit, and he was always kind, responsive, and helpful. One thing I would recommend to future guests is renting a golf cart, as the road leading up to the villa is quite steep and may be challenging for some guests. That said, the moment you step onto the terrace and see the view, it is completely worth it. I’ve worked in hospitality for over 30 years and now own a travel agency, so my expectations are naturally very high. We intentionally chose Casa Markel because we wanted something more authentic than a modern luxury resort experience, and it did not disappoint. The open-air living room and kitchen were incredible, while the enclosed bedrooms with private baths and AC kept everything comfortable at night. Casa Markel truly captures the charm and spirit of Sayulita. Thank you to Ramon and his wife for an amazing stay!

Host Response

Thank you so much for staying with us, hope you guys come back soon.

The most beautiful view and home we could have imagined. Our family enjoyed our stay very much. The pool was a definite plus. It was very welcome after a day at the beach. The kitchen had everything we needed. We brought our own coffee set up. There is a pantry to keep your food. The pantry has a toaster oven and microwave. The living room sofas are very comfortable and the open air concept was ideal this time of year. The two downstairs bedrooms have air conditioning, their own bathrooms and are very quiet at night. The upstairs bedroom is beautiful with a spectacular view, air conditioning, but has virtually no water pressure. Everyone thanked me for finding this beautiful home and we would definitely stay here again. Ramon was very responsive to any questions and requests. ps: We rented 2 golf carts for the 6 of us from Sayulita Golf Carts and we really enjoyed having them!

Our stay at Ramon’s place went above our expectations. I don’t think we could have found a better view in all of Sayulita. Ramon was responsive to our needs and was incredibly helpful navigating the town, additionally he gave us very helpful advice driving the golf carts up and down the hills. We were a larger group staying with Ramon and all of us felt right at home as soon as we arrived at the house. Ramon specifically made our trip extra special by picking us up from the bus station and giving us recommendations of local restaurants. The pool was perfect for hot days and there was more than enough kitchen supplies for us to make meals at the house. I would definitely recommend staying here and I this would be my first choice in stays when I return to Sayulita.

A wonderful spring stay at the beautiful and unique Casa Markel. Perched high on a hill with gorgeous views of Sayulita and the sea, easily walkable to downtown and the beaches. Steep, but our kids who are between ages 6-9 were able to do it without much complaint. Ramon was very responsive with any requests we had. The pool was wonderful for the kids, surrounded by what felt like a jungle oasis. Air conditioning in the rooms worked very well and plenty of hot water for showers. Next time we are in Sayulita, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Gracias Ramon!

Host Response

Thank you Forrest & Minh Im glad you have a great time at Casa Markel, thank you very much for such a great review, it will be a pleasure to host you again, come back any time you guys are welcome, once again thank you for staying at our place.

Ramon was very kind and informative, and the house was beautiful, but I have to be honest: 1. The beds were terrible—I woke up with bruises on my shoulders from how hard they were. 2. There were only sheets as blankets, and the fridge was broken—we lost nearly $450 worth of food. The freezer worked, so it wasn’t an electricity issue, just a faulty appliance. 3. The outdated appliances barely worked—I had to self-ignite the stove, which felt unsafe. 4. The water was unreliable, shutting off randomly, including mid-shower while I had shampoo in my hair. It was off past midnight and even at 3:30 PM, forcing us to use bottled water. 5. No towel changes—one per person for the entire stay, while other villas had daily cleaning staff. 6. The WiFi was nearly nonexistent despite being advertised as “high-speed,” only working in the kitchen/living room, leaving us stranded when our phones ran out of data. I truly wanted to enjoy my stay, but these issues made it difficult.

Host Response

I always try to provide my guest with the best experience ever and always communicate with them and try to resolve any issues in a timely matter, in this case I never receive one by writing or in person just find out through AIRBNB that Jade is requesting a 30 or 40 % of her stay which I do not feel is fair. I have past review and never had such complaints. I do not feel her complaint is accurate and honest.

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful property with absolutely incredible views! The location is perfect—just a short walk to town, making it super convenient while still feeling like a private retreat. We highly recommend renting a golf cart to get around, but note that the 6-seater carts won’t make it all the way up the hill—you can park at the bottom and walk up. It wasn’t an issue for us. Ramon is a fantastic host—so responsive, kind, and helpful throughout our stay. The home itself is stunning, with thoughtful decor and a spotless clean interior. We especially loved the pool and the fully stocked kitchen, which made it easy to prepare meals. One thing to note: the room with the twin beds is essentially outdoors, but with the perfect weather, mosquito nets, and a little time to adjust, our boys ended up loving the adventure of it! The AC in every room, along with ceiling fans, was a huge plus and kept us comfortable throughout our stay. Being able to do laundry was also great!

Pros-this traditional home with amazing tile work has stunning views and is nestled in the forest. Birds everywhere (squirrel cuckoo, black crested magpie jays, chachalacas, yellow-winged cacique, streak-backed orioles) so I highly suggest this place for birders. All rooms are open to the outside except for bedrooms. A/C worked great. Ramon always communicated quickly. Cons-great view=steep road so renting a golf cart is a must. The open aired house means that everything is open to the elements and it shows. Furniture needs replacing. No dishwasher and not very hot water in the sink meant we didn't feel like dishes were getting clean. Interesting given all of us got sick. The refrigerator wasn't keeping things cold, called and they too turned the knob with no change. Trekked stuff to the sm frig by the pool then. They need to replace worn out things. Next door building not bad but not nice having workers being able to look into the house. Having manager living in separate part of house

Ramon, the host is fantastic! He was great to work with and accommodated our needs. Beautiful property with a spectacular ocean view, stunning views! The major downside was there was no internet service for the entire stay, making it very difficult to work remotely. Ramon tried his best to get this fixed but was unable to do so, that is reason for the 4 star instead of 5 star review. He did try and was very responsive to our needs. We would stay again and he mentioned that he likely switch to Starlink satellite to fix the problem.

We had the most amazing and relaxing 10 night stay at Ramon’s! The place was like no other and had the most incredible views and rooms. Ramon was highly responsive and able to help out with different requests and recommendations. We had some previous concerns after reviews of construction noise however this was no issue at all, the construction is still going however we hardly noticed it and did not impact our stay whatsoever. Could not recommend highly enough, Thankyou Ramon and family! I hope to be back again

My family stayed at Casa Markel for about a week and had a great time! The views are incredible and made the vacation so special. Ramon was friendly, helpful and accessible. We were so happy to stay up on the hill and away from the noise in town. We rented a golf cart which was really helpful - the hill is a doable walk, but I wouldn't want to have to make that trek every time we went out. We also took a surf lesson and zip lined through the jungle - both highly recommend. We would definitely come back to Sayulita for a vacation and would love to stay at Casa Markel again. The house is wonderful, and Ramon is a great host. Also, the construction next door was not an issue for us at all.

The pictures don’t do this place justice, it is even more beautiful in person. We were deliberating over a couple other AirBnbs and I’m so happy we chose this one. The weather was perfect every day, so the open air living spaces were ideal. The view of the water cannot be beat. We loved that there were several places to hangout on the property, not just the main living room. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and bathrooms. Construction is listed in the description and was only one morning, nothing a pillow over the head couldn’t fix. We had other friends staying in town that complained about loud roosters that kept them awake, but we didn’t experience that in the slightest. It was great being on the hill away from the hustle and bustle. Ramon helped us plan a chef the first night and golf cart rentals, both of which were extremely easy and worthwhile. Ramon was also patient with us as we were there for a bachelorette. Gracias a usted!

Stayed at Casa Markel with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday in Sayulita, and we loved it! Ramon gave us such a warm welcome, and was always responsive. The views from the place were incredible, and we enjoyed watching the sunsets from the balcony. The construction next door didn’t bother us since we were mostly gone during the day, and there was no construction on a couple of days so we were able to relax by the pool all day which was really awesome! We enjoyed being a little outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, but it was definitely close enough to easily walk into town for meals and events. I would highly recommend this home to anyone visiting Sayulita!

Ramon was a wonderful host! The home boasted amazing and unobstructed views of the ocean which we loved. Ramon was so helpful, kind, and responsive. The ONLY drawbacks for us about the house is that it is currently surrounded by construction on multiple sides so during daylight hours there is a lot of noise. In the evening, as you probably see in other reviews, the sound from town travels up the hill. Most nights during our stay we could heard very loud music until at least 2:30 in the morning. Since we travel with ear plugs and a sound machine we were good but had we not had those… nights would have been troublesome. Definitely things out of Ramon’s control.

This house is beautiful and looks just like the pictures. Amazing view and very close to everything. There is a steep hill to walk for about 1-2 blocks, which I don’t mind, but a golf cart is helpful. It is noted in the listing that there is construction next door and that was a major inconvenience for our party. There is a gigantic building being built next door and I don’t see it being done in the foreseeable future. There is loud construction noises from 8am to 5pm every day except Sunday, as well as loud music being played by the construction workers. It also creates a LOT of dust in the house. I wouldn’t stay here again if that construction is still going on. There was house cleaning offered after a couple of days to clean the dust but it just came right back. Ramon was quite unresponsive after a few days of our stay which was inconvenient because we kept running out of water, toilet paper and trash bags, and the coolers in the bedrooms kept going out.

Host Response

As is stated it in the description there is a construction next door and some times it does get noisy, they were cutting the floor for the second floor and it was loud and dusty, it was a bad timing for your group, they finished it that area already and thank god they are back to the normal situation and not much noice again, I also speak with the person in charge and address the situation with the music. You mention I was unresponsive, I do my best to be on top of things, when guest arrive I have a jug of water in the base plus and extra one beside for the same reason, plus I live in the apartment in the property and Im available or my wife at any time so we can address any inconvenience, as you can see I have a superhost on AIRBNB for the same reason, My apologize for the noice and inconvenience your group went through but the construction is written down on my description, which thank God they are about to finished it.

Ramon was a great host! The house was comfortable. The kitchen was stocked, not for a chef, but good for making margaritas, guacamole and salsa. There is construction which was noted when we booked. It was a non issue. Friday night there was really loud club music playing a couple of houses down playing late until the early morning, which was a nuisance, however, the rest of the stay was quiet and lovely. The house is on a hill as described. We got some good workouts in climbing the hill! If you have any knee issues or injuries, beware it is a steep climb if you plan to go on foot. We rented a golf cart but I still preferred to walk down the hill, it’s steep! We would definitely stay here again. Great location and host!

This place is truly wonderful - the view from the house is amazing, the space is comfortable, and location was private and quiet, yet close to some great restaurants/beach locations. Ramon was incredibly helpful from airport pickup, to coordinating golf cart rental (as others have said - a great way to get up the hill & around town), to recommending an in home chef, and making sure we had all we needed & pointing us in the right direction during our stay!

6 guests This place is awesome! The living room looking out over the ocean ended up being our group’s favorite spot to chill. The pool area was also great. Every room had AC that gets COLD. The hill up to the Airbnb is super steep when walking back. If you drive down that hill, make the right on C. Chiripa, and park right before you get to Ave. Del Palmar the walk into town is not bad at all. I highly recommend this place!

The views from this house are unbelievable. More than enough space for 4 adults, 2 teens and 2 babies. Ramon was very helpful and accommodating with an early check in and late departure, recommendation for arrangement of golf cart, and use of pack n play. We were there over the very crowded Easter week and at one point the city turned off the water. Ramon hooked up a backup system very quickly. There is drinking water provided. We were very glad to have rented a golf cart. You don't get that kind of a view without being on a very steep hill. Very steep. Major construction project still in the works next door, but it was not a bother for us at all. Very little noise from it while we were there. Loved the house and location. Would stay there again.

We just returned from 4 wonderful nights at Casa Markel! First off- the view is absolutely incredible. The open air space is so nice. The house is beautiful and just as pictured. The location is great but the house is on a very steep hill. We had golf carts and I’m glad we did! It’s just a couple minute drive into town which was super convenient. Ramon helped get us our carts as well as round trip transportation prior to our arrival and that made things so easy! We had 7 people and the house was extremely spacious for everyone. The construction next door is real and is still going- however, we were always out and about during the day plus I was aware of it so it wasn’t an issue for us! We had a private chef come in for dinner one night and it was the highlight. I can say enough about that view! The pool was great to have for the kids. It’s super shallow and perfect to relax in after a beach day. Loved the place and hope we can return!!!!

Hola Amanda thank you for your review, it was a pleasure to host you I hope you come back soon, the construction next door should be over soon, Im glad you enjoy your stay, I also have other properties that I manage so hopefully you stay with us next time you come back to town, but Casa Markel has the best view of the ocean in Sayulita. Saludos

Ramon was a great host, extremely responsive and helpful. This house is beautiful with a view that you just cannot beat. Very clean and comfortable. The house is very open format with no walls to the view. This does allow for mosquitos to come in so be prepared for this. Beach and plenty of restaurants in walking distance, but some steep hills so be prepared for that as well or rent a golf cart. We did have some electrical issues when we first arrived with very few lights and fans not working, but Ramon had an electrician come and got it all sorted out in a really timely manner. Would absolutely stay here or at any of Ramon’s properties again in a heartbeat. Thanks Ramon!

This place was amazing. The house looks just like the photos… bright colors, beautiful tile work. We were a party of 7 and we all fit perfectly with a bed to spare. I would definitely recommend renting a golf cart. The hill leading up to the house is quite steep. We did without the cart for a few days and my 60 year old mother was struggling a bit, my 34 year old knees were also mad at me! The house is about a 10-15 min walk from downtown but you can still hear music at night. I came prepared with ear plugs since I’m a light sleeper and it was fine. Same goes for the construction next door. It wasn’t terrible but we were out of the house for the most part anyway. We cooked a couple of days at the house and they had everything we needed, except for maybe a few spices. They had salt though! Ramon was super helpful with arranging rides when we needed and was super nice! I definitely recommend!

The house looks exactly as pictured, spacious and bright. Kitchen is well stocked and drinking water is provided. The pool water is sparking clean! I am sure this hill top house was the best of the best at one time! The massive construction next door is nowhere near complete. Yep, from 7-6 every weekday. Yep, the dust settles everywhere. A broom and some cleaning supplies kept handy would have been appreciated. We did not rent a golf cart, we accepted the challenge up & down that steep hill every day and just enjoyed walking around town.

Host Response

Thank you very much for your review. I greatly appreciate and take your suggestions into consideration. I am also well aware of the huge construction that you brought up and know that the noises along with the dust can cause discomfort. Which is why there is mention of it in the house description and in adition we provide you with a discount from the original rental price. I would also like to mention that I am always aviable and a phone call away so I could've reminded you that a broom, mop and dustpan are always kept on the right corner of the main entrance, as I mentioned upon your arrival.

Everybody in my family loved it! It is far enough from the beach that we didn't go back and forth very often during the day, but the view and the gorgeous house made up for that. The house has three bedrooms that felt really private for each of the three couples. What is truly amazing are the communal spaces with big tables, couches that made it really easy for all of us (8 people total) to hang out with really fantastic views. The pool was clean, but still a little chilly for most of us to swim in (we were there in December!), especially when we have the ocean nearby! Overall a really great space!

Casa Markel is quite the property. Ramon is a great host. There when you need him (very responsive to messages) and was great helping us book a dinner at the house. We had beef, chicken and fish. Would recommend asking for spicy dishes specifically if you want to some kick to your meal. 😉 The fish was my favorite. You definitely want a golf cart for this property. Taking that hill after heading to the beach or the bars is a challenge by foot. Like it’s crazy steep. Side note on transportation, you may not find the property’s address in Uber/Lyft. Ramon was great trying to help us and his typed up directions were helpful, but unbelievably valuable to have actual GPS location so you can navigate your app of choice. We had 7 crazy, adventurous people and everyone loved this house! The AC in the bedrooms is legit. And no one can complain about the view. Thanks, Ramon!

Ramon, the host, was very nice but we feel misled about the construction noise and dust. Loud hammering, grinding, and drilling started before 7am and woke us up. It persisted throughout the day. Somtimes we couldn't even have a conversation. We went for a relaxing time and it was not relaxing the house with all the noise. Construction dust filled the space and had to be wiped down. There was no hot water in the master for the first two days. I had to report it twice before it was fixed. The house had tremendous views and was comfortable.

Very beautiful view and the host was very responsive & helpful. There were beach chairs, towels, and an umbrella for beach use which was great. Although THE CONSTRUCTION WAS SO LOUD. They are building a massive unit RIGHT next to the house, it sounds like the construction is in the house and it’s goes from 7am - 6pm 7 days a week. WiFi was very spotty and went out twice. The AC units in the bedrooms work great. Upstairs shower water never got hot. Beds are really hard and so are the pillows.

Beautiful home with a beautiful view of the ocean to match. We enjoyed our stay, thank you!

Casa Markel was great. Ramon was very helpful from start to finish. He helped us book airport transportation and golf carts to get around town, both at a good rate. He also promptly responded to any questions or concerns, especially communicating with our taxi when our inbound flight was delayed several times. Golf carts are basically essential during your stay because of the steep hill and distance to town. However, the location is perfect. Casa Markel is just far enough away from the sounds of the nightlife and the balcony and pool views at the top of the hill are incredible. As stated in the description, there is noise during the day from construction, except on Sunday. The noise is pretty consistent from 8am until late afternoon. Personally, the noise/construction didn't really bother us or impact our visit. It's pretty easy to ignore between the pool and view, plus some added music. Most of our time was spent exploring the area anyways. We did massages at the house one day - if you do this, obviously do it on a Sunday. All in all, I highly recommend Ramon and Casa Markel.

The place was wonderful. Had the most amazing view. Everything was spotless and the pool was awesome. Ramon was very helpful and we had zero issues with the place. The only reason this place is 4 stars instead of 5 was because they were doing a massive construction project right next door from 8am-5pm everyday during the week. This is completely out of the owners control but something to consider. Would definitely book again. Roughly 10-15 minute walk to beach and downtown area.

Host Response

Thank you Mike, yes it was a busy week on the construction next door during your stay, they will finish soon and hope you will come back and fully enjoy Casa Markel.

Host is responsive and the place is great. The view is awesome!! As other reviewers have said if you are planning on walking into town understand the property is at the top of a very large hill and some may have trouble walking up there. Can get to the beach in about 10 minutes, 15 minute walk to square. The two twin beds are in an open room upstairs outside of master bedroom- no way to close off the outside but the weather was great and we had no issues. Overall would recommend!

The house has stunning views. Located on a hill top and you will need a golf cart to access as walking will be difficult for most. Wifi is non existent as signal is bad. Heavy construction next door so expect monday through saturday to have loud noise starting at 7AM. Pool stays dirty due to construction dust next door. Overall a good home with amazing views... but lots of noise and no wifi..

Host Response

Antonios review are not acurate, he was well aware on the construction next door, thats why I have the house in a lower price, it is descrive it right in the description of the house, there is wifi on the property and it was failing but not only in the house it was a problem from town and I explained it him on the phone myself, now about the pool him and his family use the pool everyday since their arrival, ofcourse you will expect at some point to get dirty, on Sunday morning he send me a mesage about it and I contact my pool guy to address this issue wich he came on the evening to pour chemicals so the next morning he came and bacum it, thats a regular process to clean a pool. as you can read on my reviews if there is an issue in any of my properties and the guest let me know about it I address it right away.

This house was perfect for our group of 7 to stay for a week. Plenty of space to hang out together or find solace on one's own. Spent beautiful mornings in the large open living room watching the ocean and listening to the birds. Super easy to cook meals together and enjoy. Pool was an awesome place to hang out too, with a view of the ocean from the pool itself. The pictures honestly don't do the spaces justice. The king bed is on second floor with its own living room (where the two single beds are). The other two rooms have their own doors off the front courtyard, making them feel very private. Overall the house affords a lot of privacy for three different couples. Host was very accommodating and helped us drop our bags early and store them late on check-in/check-out, and on-site host helped us when we had questions. The location is really nice, outside of the center of town up on the hill for the awesome view and quiet nights. We had two golf carts to get around and it made a big difference for our group so we could get around quickly - plus the hill up to the place is pretty steep so it was nice to have an option to zip up vs. walk.

This place was a gem! We stayed here over New Year with my family and we just loved the house. It is so beautiful with magical views. There was so much room for the adults and kids of various ages, everyone could be together or have privacy. It is located a few blocks from great restaurants and the beach near the house is less crowded but you can still get any types of food and drinks brought to you at your desire. We fell in love with Sayulita and the house. The hill is a bit steep the last 50 yards, thus the amazing view, and we were not able to get golf carts because of this (possibly the gas ones can make it but not sure of that because we waiting last minute to order), but we had no problems getting around in town and up and down the hill on foot even with little kids in tow, everything is so close. The house is so worth the value, it is truly a gem and Ramon is so helpful in everything.

The pictures do not do this house justice. The house is beautiful, the view is breath taking and sunsets are like none other. The house is up on a hill overlooking the town and the ocean. Easy to walk, but better to get around in golf cart. Ramon, the host is great and has good referrals. We visited in July and enjoy the town and beaches, but we're happy to return to the house and enjoy our private pool in the evenings. This place is paradise. We would definitely return. One side note to beware of: there's quite a bit of construction in the area, but did not take away from our experience.

I can’t say enough good things about our stay . The number one benefit is the view from this house it is insane but a close 2nd is the property manager Ramon! To say he is attentive is an understatement! His timely communications and immediate help is the best I have ever had from any Airbnb experience. Regarding the beautiful home it does not disappoint. It was so nice to have bottled water available for our trip. Already delivered to the kitchen it almost lasted our whole 6 days. All 3 of the bedrooms have Great bathrooms, air conditioning and comfortable beds and pillows. The indoor outdoor living area has fans for the day time but there seemed to always be a nice breeze coming thru as well. Ramon set us up with Lulu who is an amazing cook!!! Both of our meals that she prepared in our kitchen were as good as anything in town. Plus our sunset view beats anything you will find in town. FYI the kitchen is stocked with whatever you will need in regards to dish ware and silverware. The pool area is great. The sun hits it by noon and by the time you have had a great breakfast in town it will be shining bright on the pool. Do you need a golf cart...not necessarily if you are only going into town a bit . You are in walking distance but you do have a steep hill to get to the house so be able to walk that. In the end a golf cart is a fun addition and always a highlight to have! There were 3 of us working and the WiFi was pretty good. Zooms were a little harder but worked. One area to note: construction has begun next store which we were aware of prior to arrival, hence the lower rate on the house. If you plan to enjoy the beach durning the day you won’t even notice it and after the first day we didn’t really pay attention to it. They only work till noon on sat and off Sunday. To be honest it was worth getting this great rate for this unbelievable house. A few other tips: We hired a private yoga instructor to take a short 30 min walk to a private beach and yoga session on the beach it was amazing. Anahi Anahi’s a.yoga on Instagram. Www.Ajexperiences.com is amazing. Getting our COVID test was super easy. We had a local dr come to the house and we had our results 4 hours later. Dr Pena penapla@hotmail.com $68.00 We have been to sayulita 4 times and this was our favorite location by far!

When you first walk into this house it will take your breath away, the big doors and courtyard with a view overlooking Sayulita is breath taking. The house is stunning and I appreciate that it is a few minutes outside of the busy part of Sayulita so everything is much more tranquil. We would absolutely stay there again, but with no plans of working remote. If you are planning to work remote, the internet is not that strong or reliable so you'll need to find a co-working space. We also had the water turn off twice during a five day stay but it was always resolved within a few hours, but just something to be aware of.
