Casa Bonita

Casa Bonita is indeed a beautiful place. So close to the beach and in a special community with restaurants, a shop, surf schools and local wildlife. The house's proximity to the beach made morning walks easy. The pool was a great occasional break from the sand. Thank you!

We LOVED our stay! The private path to the beach was incredible- a 2 minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches we've visited. The sunsets were stunning. The house was perfect for our needs. Very clean and cozy. Our kids had the best time surfing and checking out all the local wildlife. The restaurant across the street was delish and super convenient! There was a bit of construction next door, but nothing too loud, and it didn't impact our stay.

VERY LOUD CONSTRUCTION NOISE FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET ON WEEKDAYS! You won't "find zen" here unless your mantra is the scream of a concrete saw. For a sample, search youtube shorts keywords "CASA PIPA PLAYA GRANDE COSTA RICA CONSTRUCTION NOISE". GOOD: Playa Grande has great surfing! BAD: 2 story building being built next door. Sunrise-sunset weekdays there is constant hammering & screeches of concrete & steel saws. No privacy, workers look directly into the yard at you. Once construction ends, there will be 3 patios overlooking this house's yard. No cleaning. No extra towels or sheets & they weren't changed during our 8 day stay. When you're wearing sunscreen & going to the beach every day, you need more of these items. Hosts won't let you use washer/dryer, so you can't clean them yourself. They blame pasts guests, but every other vacation house we've rented has had them. We enjoyed our CR vacation immensely, but wish we had stayed somewhere else.

This place is amazing and looked just like the photos when we arrived. The location is fantastic and there is a short, beautiful pathway to the beach. We will be back.

Our multi-generational family group of 12 had a wonderful stay (6 adults, 6 kids). The backyard pool was a highlight (loved the shaded afternoon), and the proximity to a gorgeous beach was awesome. Proximity to a great surf shop and cafe were welcome, but not too much else was walkable (not that you need more than pool and beach!). The one thing this stay was lacking was laundry and housekeeping. With a large group for 5 nights (and 6 busy kids), it would have been nice to have fresh towels, sheets and a cleaning at some point.

This house is situated on a fantastic, uncrowded beach. It stretches on for long beach walks, the sand is soft, the waves are perfect for boogie boarding, and the water temperature is warm. Each day of our stay we boogied boarded for hours with maybe 15 other people in sight. In the evening there are beautiful sunsets. The outdoor space of the house is great for cooling off in the small pool or relaxing in the hammock. The house is located in a gated community inhabited by tourists, so in order to experience authentic Costa Rican restaurants or culture one must drive to a neighboring town about 15 minutes away. The house itself is as described but be aware no amenities (shampoo) are provided with the exception of small soap discs. The beach itself made our stay wonderful.

We love, love, love Casa Bonita. Great for families. Something for everyone. Walk to beach, cool off in pool. Private paradise.

Our stay at Casa Pipa was everything and more my son, daughter in law, two young adult grandchildren and I were looking for as the way to wind down our 2 week action filled family vacation in paradise! House, yard, neighborhood, and beach were serene and peaceful, people were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant across the street has delicious food. Although reservations are needed because of its popularity. Two family members took surfing lessons from the experts across the street and thought they were excellent teachers! Our host, Manfred was accessible, helpful, and is a terrific baker! he most popular item in the place was the super comfy pool floatie. Well, that and the beach chairs! All around wonderful experience. We all loved it!

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Pipa! The home was exactly as advertised. Iris was so easy to work with; helped with dinner reservations. Excellent guide/resource book emailed prior to arrival. Manfred the local house manager was so nice to work with, orient us to the home, and make us feel welcome immediately. We enjoyed Manfred's homemade pastries; so delicious! The home is very clean and comfortable. We found the beds and pillows very comfortable. So private and the private beach access was just magical! Was so nice to go through the gate, walk a beautiful little forest path, to find the amazing beach and Pacific ocean!!! Any questions; answered immediately. Just a total chill place for ultimate relaxation while being able to walk the neighborhood and enjoy the lovely small restaurants and market. We didn't rent a car and didn't feel the need for one. Our driver brought us to the supermarket before our arrival so we had everything we needed; the home, pool, beach!! Thank you!!!

Great place! Location is fantastic, beach is walking distance and amazing! The place is beautiful and the kids loved the pool and ping pong table. We loved that we could walk to restaurants and didn’t need to drive. We took the water taxi to Tamarindo and it was great! Only negatives were that the place was infested with red ants! They were harmless but we didn’t know that in the beginning. Would have been nice to have some heads up notice. Also, it would have been nice to have shampoo in the showers. There were 5 bathrooms and we had 9 people. We only had 2 sets of shampoo and that limited how many of us could shower at the same time. At the price point, some shampoo would be appreciated! Thanks!

The house was perfect for our family, 3 boys, grandma and the two of us for a total of six people. Wonderful indoor/outdoor living. The backyard, pool and beach access were amazing. Very relaxing and peaceful, we felt like we had the beach to ourselves. You can rent everything you need in the community, book all tours and excursions at multiple places in the community. Easy access to Tamarindo if you want to have that experience as well. We’d 100% recommend this place and hope to go back soon.

We booked this airbnb for three families traveling with young children and it worked out really well. The beach is an easy walk, and there are restaurants, coffee and surf/bike rentals within 10 minutes walk of the home. The pool was the perfect temp, and the house has AC in each room which keeps it cool where you need it. The kitchen is a good size and stocked with tools. Also, there was a group of monkeys that hung out in the trees around the property in the early morning and it was so amazing to see them without having to go anywhere. I also felt really safe in the neighborhood and often walked with my toddler to watch the sunset on the beach and grab dinner at nighttime without any worries. It’s notable that most excursions will pick you up at the home or nearby hotel, and produce and fish (ask for a contact from manfred) can be delivered directly to the home so a car rental is not necessary. The hospitality from Manfred & the locals was incredible. I hope to return again soon!

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Pipa! We are a family of 4 and this was our first time to Playa Grande, and wow, the beach is pristine and so beautiful, perfect for surfing, boogie boarding, or just playing in the waves. The close proximity to beach via the private path and the refreshing outdoor shower and private pool were awesome. We saw a lot of colorful birds in the trees around the house. The house itself is very comfortable/spacious, and the air conditioners and hot water worked perfectly. The location was ideal - very quiet/private but so close to restaurants, the market and Playa Grande Surf Camp. We rented a car which was helpful. The manager, Manfred, was helpful and easy to reach, and his chocolate croissants and cinnamon rolls were absolutely delicious. We hope to back!

Casa Pipa exceeded our expectations. The pictures don’t do the place justice. We loved our time there and hope to return again to Playa Grande soon!

Exceptional find! We had never been to Costa Rica before and I wasn’t sure if Playa Grande would be a good thing or hassle being 40 minutes away from Tamarindo by car. Turned out to be an amazing location!! The beach is private and incredibly quite, with surf and a sandy ocean floor. The backyard is private and we loved having our own convenient trail to the beach. The restaurant across the street has excellent food and friendly staff. You can rent surf boards and boogie boards across the street as well. We would come back again in a heartbeat.

We absolutely loved our time at Casa Pipa. The house is perfect: well-maintained, comfortable, safe and secure. Hard to pick our favorite thing about the house, but probably the beautiful backyard, pool and private path to the beach. It felt like we were in our own oasis. Iris and her house manager, Manfred, were easy to reach and quick to respond to any issue or question. House is across the street from Cafe Mar Azul, which quickly became almost a second home for us. Great food & drinks, cold beers, yummy banana bread… they all knew us by name within a day. We are already missing Grace and her warm greetings every day. Highly recommended Casa Pipa to anyone staying in Playa Grande area. We hope to return one day soon. Pura Vida!

My friends and I had a wonderful time in Playa Grande at Casa Pipa. The little community the home is located in is wonderful. Lots of great places to try that are all walking distance, and we’re recommended by the owners. It is a dream to walk into the backyard and onto the beautiful beach within seconds! We explored Tamarindo, just across the estuary and also spent time in Playa Flamingo. It was really convenient that Casa Pipa was right in between. With the busyness of the neighboring cities, we were thankful to come back to our peaceful little neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again for future Costa Rican adventures!

Casa Bonita is a wonderful home in a wonderful location. The beach is beautiful. The community is quiet, slow, relaxed and there is yoga right down the street. The house is perfect for families. We had two families and had plenty of room. The pool was a great distraction for the kids while the parents relaxed under the covered patio. The greatest feature is the enormous outdoor dining table! Great for large groups for dinner or multiple card game. We love Casa Bonita!

This was our second time back to Casa Pipa! We look forward to this trip every year & staying here makes it feel like home. The house & property were spotless, extremely secure, with two sets of keys & an easy to work alarm system. That being said, we have always felt safe here. Manfred was always available, making sure our stay was the best it could be. His pasties are amazing & made fresh, a must order treat! We are surfers & avid beach goers, so having the private path makes coming & going very easy. The surfboard rack & outdoor shower were also a plus. The pool was cleaned every day & was a great break from the heat in the middle of the day. There is plenty of room, shade, & furniture for lounging. We ate every meal outside, as the table is big enough for any group with fans overhead to keep you cool. The bedrooms & bathrooms are spacious, clean, & comfortable. Casa Pipa’s location is perfect, close to everything in the small community of playa grande. We can’t wait to come back!

We stayed for a week at Casa Bonita with a group of 10 people and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the house. The location is perfect as it was just a quick walk to the beach, surf board rentals and a few restaurants. The house was exceptionally well equipped, clean and very comfortable. Manfred met us to let us in with no delays (make sure you order some of cinnamon rolls, they were fantastic). Iris and Bjorn was quick to respond to any questions and were lovely to deal with. We will be back!

Very pleasant stay at Iris'. The house is located 50 meters from the sea with direct access to the beautiful beach of Playa grande. You can hear the sound of the waves from the terrace. Surf lessons and a restaurant are located right in front of the house very convenient and at very low prices. Playa grande is quite secluded so you're in a quiet area. 35/40 mins from Tamarindo by car. The waves are beautiful for surfing, Iris provides a bodyboard for the kids to enjoy.

Stunning property located in a quiet neighborhood with a short walk to the beach. The thick and lush green vegetation surrounding the house makes it easy to imagine you are secluded from the rest of the world. The estuary that separates the property from Tamarindo keeps many of the tourists in Tamarindo from coming to the beach, but is not a barrier for you getting to Tamarindo, as a water taxi will take you across the water anytime during the day. The hosts communicated very well, as did the caretaker and the concierge. We hope to return again soon to enjoy this wonderful property.

Amazing location, just steps from the beach and several charming restaurants. Also a small grocery store and surf rental shops minutes away on foot. We had every amenity available for a perfect Costa Rican getaway. Pool was ideal temp and always clean. Outdoor shower, bbq, ping pong, fast internet, comfy beds, all necessary kitchen appliances….. Hosts were very responsive and easy to communicate with. Great value for a large group. And did I mention this house is close to the beach?

5 Stars all the way! Absolutely beautiful home. Well laid out and loved the outdoor eating area. Super convenient to the beach...just steps away! The pool was well appreciated...provided some shade and the water temp was perfect. The house manager, Manfred, was a joy and was very responsive to any questions that came up throughout our stay. We've already recommended this home to friends back in the states. We hope to return sooner than later!

We were a group of 6 adults (3 couples) and chose Casa Pipa for the beach location, the pool/outdoor space and the 3 bedrooms to offer us some privacy. Upon arrival, Manfred, your contact for the duration of your stay, gave us a tour and provided all the information we needed. We noticed that one room had two single beds but Manfred was able to get the staff to modify them and turn them into a double bed upon request. We needed a few other items during our stay and Manfred was responsive and helpful each time. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked a few times, but the restaurants in the area were great and we especially loved Cafe Mar Azul, directly across the street. The ladies provided excellent service, and were very friendly and kind. If you do plan on cooking, you will need to get your groceries outside the Palm Beach Estates complex as the only store there does not sell produce (drinks and packaged goods are available). The outdoor space at Casa Pipa was magical and the pool was great for dips during the hottest part of the day. We rented boogie boards at Playa Grande Surf Camp (right next to Cafe Mar Azul) and had the best time in the waves! Walking those few steps to the beach and enjoying the most spectacular sunsets was definitely a highlight of the trip. We all loved our time here and look forward to coming back :)

Our stay in Casa Bonita was absolutely magical. The home was exactly as presented in the airbnb listing. We loved the fact that most of the bedrooms included a bathroom. We really appreciated Casa Bonita’s proximity to the beach — make sure to catch all the sunsets. The home is also steps away from an awesome cafe called Cafe Mar Azul (which can be found on Google maps for those planning to drive to the Casa Bonita). The check-in/out process was also seamless. The location is a short drive away from Tamarindo and we navigated through the area with private shuttles. We really enjoyed our time in Playa Grande and hope for a future opportunity to visit again and stay in Casa Bonita. Thank you Bjorn, Iris and Manfred!

We had a wonderful vacation and would recommend this property to anyone looking for a private family vacation. The pool and outdoor space was paradise. We had sun or shade at any time of day, and loved walking the cute path that meanders to the beach - which isn’t busy at all, and has the most incredible sunsets and excellent for boogie boarding. The home’s interior was carefully designed and styled. As a property stylist myself, I was impressed and felt right at home. Manfred was an excellent and responsive property manager (who makes incredible chocolate croissants). There are also a couple great restaurant choices across the street, so food options are quite convenient. We feel lucky to have had the chance to stay at this very special place.

Wonderful home in a great small beach town.

Our stay was absolute paradise! Our family of four was lucky enough to stay in this property for a week. The check-in process with Manfred was easy and seamless. The house had everything we needed, full kitchen, bbq, and plenty of space to stretch out. Even the WiFi was great (we had to work a bit and had no issues). The real star though is the outside area. Where else can you wake up to hummingbirds and monkeys in the trees?! Plus our own private path to the most beautiful beach. The beach also felt private as we were the only ones there many times! The area around the house also had everything we needed - wonderful restaurants, bike rentals, a little store. Iris and Bjorn were wonderful hosts, even accommodating a last minute travel change to ensure we were comfortable. We can’t wait to return very soon!!! Thank you Iris and Bjorn!

We are yearly visitors to playa grande and are so happy we found casa pipa! The location is perfect, walking distance to everything playa grande has to offer. The house was spotless and beautifully designed, with an outdoor area & pool that rivals most hotels we’ve stayed in. The kitchen was fully equipped and updated with anything you might need. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very spacious and clean, with plenty of room to hang towels, clothing, and bathing suites. The private beach entrance is an awesome amenity. We are surfers and avid beach goers, so being able to come and go so easily was great. The outdoor living space is exactly what we were looking for to relax after surfing all day. We were lucky enough to be visited by the howler monkeys and even saw baby turtles hatching on the beach the last day! We rented a car and could have easily fit another if needed. There is a locked gate and security system at the house, although we have never felt even remotely unsafe in playa grande. Iris was an incredible host and Manfred (who lives close by) was available for anything we needed. His pastries are amazing and he offers local delivery which I would highly recommend. We will absolutely be back to stay at casa pipa! We miss it already.

This is a wonderful house in Palm Beach Estates, Playa Grande, very near to the beach entrance and extremely well equipped. The space very comfortably fit seven people, and Iris was easy to communicate with. Manfred's chocolate croissants are not to be missed! I highly recommend this place for anyone that has a group coming to the area.

We loved this house! The kitchen was well-equipped, and the outdoor grill was helpful. We arrived with a family member who has trouble walking, and the house was perfect for someone using a walker or a wheelchair. The en suite bathroom was a bit difficult to manage (too narrow for his walker), but he could walk that far. The pool has steps, so he was able to get in and out with assistance. The beach was magnificent! with fine, soft sand good for sand castles and surf that was fun without being terrifying. The ocean was warm (we were there in August). Although it was the rainy season, it only rained a couple of times during our 10-day stay. Many critters came to visit, including crabs, iguanas, howler monkeys, raccoons, plus a couple of skunks that passed us on the road. Using a GPS to get there was problematic until we gave it the name of the tiny hotel across the street; ask the host to give you that name. The back yard was very private, and although the area is considered to be a resort area, it was quiet with few cars and a very rural feel. There are a few small restaurants within easy walking distance, and a place to rent surfboards and other equipment across the street.

We loved this house! We just spent 10 days with our 3 kids and the house, pool, and beach were amazing! The house was very comfortable and fit my family and our nanny perfectly. The house had great amenities, modern furnishings and comfortable beds. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a lot of sun, beach, and surf. There are 2 nice little restaurants right across the street and a small corner store thats about a 4 minute walk. The location for playa grande is pretty much perfect. After traveling to several other beaches we came to realize we liked ours the best. Manfredo the house keeper was also very responsive and easy to get a hold of. He was very nice, and answered any questions we had. You really can't go wrong with this house!
