Casa el Coco

Andrea

Excellent, 3 months ago

We stayed at Casa el Coco for a week and had a wonderful time. In the dark our driver had a hard time finding the place, however, Manfred was very responsive and met us to direct us to the right location. The house is as described. The backyard was lush & private. The pool was clean & a great addition to have when you’re tired of the waves. Perfect location, a short walk to an incredible beach and the best restaurant in Costa Rica only steps away. We ate at Cafe Mar Azul almost every night and every dish we tried was spectacular! Manfred was extremely helpful and very responsive. He recommended our airport shuttle transport, surf lessons and our rental car which made everything easy. We felt very safe in the area & at the house. The security system worked well. Our 8 year old had plenty to do on the beach searching for shells, hermit crabs, crabs, playing in tide pools, boogie boarding & surfing. If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation on an incredible beach I would highly recommend.

Manfred was an outstanding host, and our stay exceeded expectations. The house was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The neighborhood was fantastic—safe, welcoming, and full of great restaurants and local spots within easy reach. One of the highlights was the unique local experience, including a fish vendor who brought fresh seafood right to the door. The pool was excellent and made for a perfect place to relax and unwind. Manfred was responsive, helpful, and made the entire experience seamless. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay at Casa De Coco. We had a little trouble finding Manfred's place to check in. Probably more our misinterpretation of the directions than anything. But once we found him he was quick to show us the house and pertinent particulars. I appreciated him letting us know he was there if we needed anything, but he otherwise he kept a very low profile. the house was as described. We thought it was much nicer than the pictures suggested. The beach access is literally a 3 minute easy walk, you can hear the ocean while lounging out back of the house. The backyard pool was spotless and along with the garden and privacy fence felt like our own private oasis. Manfred helped us get hooked up with a local guy who comes by periodically t/o the week selling fresh fish and shrimp( mostly frozen, but already cleaned!) It was delicous. There are a number of good restrauants just a short walk from the house. Mercados for groceries, and beverages just a short 10-12 minute drive away.

We are a family of 4 with 2 elementary age children. Manfred's place, Casa El Coco, was fabulous. It had everything we could possibly need. It was clean, safe, private, and yet walkable to the beach and restaurants. It's in a lovely community and the kids really enjoyed it. The pool was a huge bonus and if it were up to the children, they would stay in the pool all day, every day. Manfred and Trevor were extremely responsive and helpful. The location of the house, once inside the gate, was tricky for us to find but it was also night time and we had no cell service to connect with Manfred. We stopped at a restaurant that was in the community and were able to use their phone to call Manfred. He immediately came to meet us at the restaurant and brought us to the house. In short, we couldn't have asked for anything more. It was fabulous! Thank you, Manfred!

We had a super nice stay thanks to the fact that the house was well equipped, in a very good location and with the help of the host.

Beautiful, private home with pool, walkable to the beach and our favorite restaurant, Cafè Mar Azul. Walk over and get your reservation for dinner, the food is fabulous and large portions for leftovers. Manfred provided beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, and outdoor hoses and showers to wash off after the beach. We saw some amazing sunsets over the ocean and monkeys passing over in the trees as we walked back home. We will definitely come back, it accommodated our family of four very well! We ordered croissants and pretzels from Manfred, and they were nice to have for breakfast and snacks! The tap water was good and he also provided a 5 gallon filtered jug and cooler. There is a grocery store within walking distance too. We decided we wouldn’t need a car next time, just shuttle from Liberia airport and walk everywhere else. Las Tortugas Hotel, north , along the beach, can plan a lot of activities for you too. We did surfing lessons with Yei (Jay) and he was great….

Other reviews accurately describe the casitas. Manfred and Roger are delightful hosts. Excellent communication. The exterior is wonderful. The pool refreshing, chaises and umbrellas are new and plentiful. We loved the outdoor kitchen - lots of dishes and pots/pans/utensils. We appreciated the blender. We didn’t miss not having a microwave. The inside of the casita was pretty basic, but Roger is enthusiastically planning a remodel/updating, which is due for the furnishings. I actually love the wood ceiling and Saltillo tile floor and hope he keeps those. Indoor/oudoor fans are great and so was the AC and hammock . The casita was clean. Shower was hot. Playa grande is really lovely. Gorgeous beach and close enough to take a water taxi to Tamarindo for a beach massage or souvenirs. If you need WiFi for a video call, Casita 6 is not reliable, but sufficient to check email. Overall fantastic stay and recommend!

This was my second time staying on Playa Grande in the Palm Beach Estates neighborhood, and my family really enjoyed it. Manfred and Trevor's property was perfect - three comfortable bedrooms with individual climate control, beds with mattresses that were actually good to sleep on, an open and airy common space, and a beautiful private backyard and pool. The property was very clean; all of the appliances, sinks, etc. worked properly; and it was much more comfortable and modern than the property I had stayed in previously. Manfred was an absolute gentleman and extremely responsive, he explained everything about the property quite well, and he was completely unruffled when my son accidentally set off the house alarm while I was parking our car on the second day (which we generally didn't use as the neighborhood is quite safe). The area is peaceful, quiet, constant waves for surfing or boogie boarding, good local restaurants, and Manfred's pastries are excellent! Highly recommend.

Manfred is a gem! His place is great. I booked a longer stay, but ended up having to leave early for personal reasons. He was extremely nice about it as well as understanding. But the place is just perfect. Manfred was so sweet and responsive. He lives near by, when I needed him, he came over within minutes. Beautiful little area. Very peaceful. Friendly locals and neighbors. Cute places to get food and coffee. Cute little market also. I would def recommend Manfreds casitas.

Positive: The house is located in a community near the beach walking a few steps away, excellent location, very spacious and with easy access and security. Negative: When we arrived there was a construction next door to ours that generated too much noise from 6am to 7pm, it is annoying when traveling with small children. I would recommend that the pool be maintained for maintenance because the ceramic hob was taking off in certain parts. I would also suggest closing with a perimeter nearby that faces a part of the neighbor's construction to generate greater security and privacy. Manfred is a very friendly and attentive person. He was looking forward to our stay, excellent host.

Manfred was a kind and generous host and the accommodation was great. Beautiful landscaping and we loved the pool. We had not stayed in Palm Estates before and would stay again. If, like us, you will be without transport you can hire bikes from the local shop for a reasonable price. Excellent restaurants to eat within walking distance and the most amazing beach within walking distance. We walked to Tamarindo a couple of times which only took c.20 mins using the estuary boat. You can ask the estuary boat to take you back to the Grateful Hotel (for $5) to save you the walk back!

Excellent place to stay, Manfred is a great host.

Beautiful house with nice pool and outdoor area. 2 min walk to the beach. As of April’23, house feels private but activity is seen on the adjoining empty lot. Kitchen is way too basic, and house in general needs elementary upgrades. Gardener comes in every morning which is fine, but there was another person who just passed through the yard, looked for something in shed and left. That happened twice during our four days stay there. AC works well, although a bit too loud in one of the bedrooms. Two boogie boards, tents and pool floating devices are available for guests’ use which is nice. Lots of birds and other creatures. Oh, and tiny ants in bathroom. Thousands of them. We were prepared for those hiccups based on previous reviews, so, we enjoyed our stay in the house.

This is the 3rd property we have rented from Manfred and as usual, it did not disappoint! Everything was as described - a cozy, traditional, laid-back setting to unwind and enjoy the sun and sand. Manfred is extremely attentive, friendly and always available for whatever needs arise. We couldn’t be more pleased with our stay! And make sure you order his fresh morning baking - everything is delicious, and still warm when delivered to our door! Muchas Gracias amigo!

The place is beautiful , very easy to access actually and very close to the beach

This Air BnB location is just fantastic, is in a nice quiet gated community and is a short walk to a stunning beach. We walked up and down the beaches during our stay and explored the mangrove swamps on the other side of the peninsular. There are 3-4 restaurants inside the gated community that allows you to enjoy your time with out having to cook. Though there is a functional kitchen. The wildlife we saw there was a real treat. Monkeys,Cotis and so many birds. Was a real honour to stay and both me and my partner agreed we would love to visit again sometime in the future. Manfred also makes bread/ pastries and offered the service however our short stay meant we did not get to experience it. Would strongly recommend this place to friends and family.

A beautifully situated property amongst mature trees and a marvelous pool garden with butterflies and hummingbirds flitting around you, this is perfect for those looking for a restorative oasis rather than an active nightlife. Howler monkeys regularly visit nearby and will greet you nearly every dawn and dusk with their throaty calls, and you can hear the ocean's roar over the rustling trees to calm and soothe your mind. A wonderful spot that we would definitely stay at again if Manfred would have us!

The road to the location is dirt but we were able to drive in our sedan. The area has less restaurants than Tamarindo so just be aware of that. We were disappointed in the beds in the room as they looked very old and were not very comfortable. we stayed at 4 airbnbs in various places this trip and this was the least quality despite paying the higher end of price. My wife is 6 months pregnant and Manfred wasn't very sympathetic when we told him the beds were very uncomfortable for us. We paid for two days and had to check out after the first night because she could hardly sleep. Manfred did not offer any refund for the 2nd night. hopefully he'll use some of that money to upgrade the cheap beds and fix the door to the bathroom so it will actually close. A little touch up paint on the walls in the bathroom shouldn't cost too much either. FYI the 2nd bed our daughter slept on looked at least 20 years old and the sheets on it. Manfred insisted we're the first negative review he's had for the last year so it makes me wonder.

Host Response

If someone comes and the first question is, why is this so dry? we come from the Arenal and everything is green there. Before starting a trip, you should inform yourself on the Internet or in travel guides. then you would know that Guanacaste is dry until May and you would also know that Playa Grande is quiet and not a party area with countless restaurants and discos like in Tamarindo. There are 4 good restaurants within a 10 minute walk and 7 more restaurants within 2 km. And why is Micah able to tell the year of our beds? Did he find an expiration date somewhere? I brought his wife extra pillows and offered to help if anything should be. But if you booked the wrong destination because you actually wanted a luxury hotel, then you should be fair and not take your own mistakes out on the landlord

Manfred is an excellent host. He responded to all our requests almost immediately. This place was just right for our short stay.

Manfred was a very kind and carrying host, which was also mirrored in all the little details in the room: Coffee filter, kitchen equipment etc. as well as in the garden. Further, he impressed with his baking skills. For Wednesday and Saturday we could order baguette, croissants, pretzels or apple strudle. For everyone who looks for a relaxed and calm place, it is the right place to be. We enjoyed our stay very much and will come back to this paradise.

Playa Grande Casitas was one of the best places we stayed in on Costa Rica, it’s quiet and peaceful. Just a 2 minute walk to the beach, around the corner from a mini supermarket that has everything you need and lovely taco restaurant! Manfred is super helpful, I even managed to get my laundry done at the property. The kitchen also has everything you need, blender to make smoothies which was our highlight. The hammock outside each casita was lovely! Absolutely recommend staying here!

Amazing place with a pool and a 5 minute walk from the beautiful Playa Grande. Will definitely come back!

This place was the perfect laid back spot for our week surfing in the playa grande area. We loved the indoor/outdoor living and the small community it provided with the other guests that were staying next door. One tip I would suggest for other travelers is to make sure you have a car to get around. You can get to about 3 different restaurants and the beach by walking but a majority of the town is very spread out so having a car was extremely helpful for us!
